S2815dnIllustrated overview
A useful fit for

A compatible wired office needing Legal feeder capture, PIN collection and shared-folder scanning within the recommended 750–4000 monthly pages.

The main tradeoff

Legal originals use the feeder. Single-pass mechanics, automatic Legal print duplex and USB computer scanning remain unestablished.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can Ethernet combine Legal duplex-feeder scanning, Mopria and fax at 3000 monthly pages?

Yes. Network delivery, the Legal DADF, Mopria, fax and recommended 4000-page monthly maximum are documented. Single-pass mechanics remain unknown.

Can a 14-inch Legal original use the flatbed?

No. The glass reaches 11.7 inches; Legal originals use the feeder.

Does USB-host scanning prove capture to a USB-cabled computer?

No. A flash-drive host socket is different from the computer connection; that USB computer scan route is not established.

A wired monochrome MFP for shared document workflows

The Dell S2815dn combines monochrome printing, color scanning, copying and fax with a 50-sheet duplex document feeder. Its standard computer interfaces are USB and Gigabit Ethernet. The color touchscreen is a control interface, not evidence of a color print engine.

This earlier model is most interesting when its document-routing features fit an established office network. The original specification names shared-folder scanning, native AirPrint and Mopria, PIN-protected collection and a specific SharePoint On-Premise integration. Each has different setup conditions.

Legal originals belong in the feeder, not on the glass

The flatbed maximum is 8.5×11.7 inches, accommodating Letter and A4 originals. The feeder accepts originals up to 8.5×14 inches, including Legal. A buyer who needs Legal on the glass has a different requirement from a buyer who can feed ordinary Legal sheets.

The DADF supports duplex originals, but this specification does not establish the precise single-pass or reversing mechanism. Duplex scanning can therefore qualify, while a specifically single-pass requirement remains unconfirmed. A color scanner also does not change the printer's monochrome output.

Use the actual network-scanning destinations

SMB network folders and FTP servers are documented destinations, with appropriate configuration and credentials. Those can support a computer-folder workflow over Ethernet. The USB Host and Application labels in the same table do not, on their own, establish scanning to a computer connected by the USB client cable.

The SharePoint feature is explicitly limited to SharePoint On-Premise 2013. It should not be presented as guaranteed integration with today's cloud service or every later server version. Searchable or editable OCR files use the included PaperPort 14 software and require a compatible computer environment.

Native mobile printing stays on the shared network

AirPrint and Mopria are expressly listed network printing protocols. The printer and device need the appropriate same-network arrangement; the original footnote says these protocols do not work in Wi-Fi Direct mode. The standard interface table does not establish an included Wi-Fi radio.

We therefore associate those mobile protocols with the documented Ethernet network arrangement, not with the USB computer plan or an assumed peer-wireless connection. Check network visibility and current device compatibility before relying on a historical mobile feature list.

350 sheets are included, with paper-size detail kept separate

The standard paper supply combines a 250-sheet cassette with a 100-sheet multipurpose path, totaling 350 ordinary sheets. A separately sold 550-sheet drawer raises the configured maximum to 900. Neither that drawer nor an expanded product illustration should be presumed part of a basic offer.

The sheet explicitly names Letter, Legal and A4 for the 250-sheet cassette, but does not provide the multipurpose path's size-permission table. For a paper-specific minimum, we therefore use the confirmed cassette capacity. Automatic print duplex is documented for Letter and A4 through explicit duplex-rate declarations; Legal automatic duplex is not established by that one-sided paper list.

Private collection, workload and physical access matter

Secure Print holds a job until a valid user PIN releases it, with the security table specifying 1–12 digits. That is separate from storing reusable forms in a mailbox or producing a proof copy. Confirm the compatible driver and administrator settings for the actual private-print routine.

The recommended monthly range is 750–4,000 pages, distinct from the 80,000-page maximum duty cycle. One-sided speed is declared at 40ppm Letter or 38ppm A4, not our measured result. The 120V edition accepts 110–127V; its body is 17.3×17.2×19.4 inches and 41.9lb with consumables. Allow additional feeder, glass, paper, cable and maintenance access, and compare current supplies rather than treating historical yields as today's printing cost.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Declared one-sided output is 40 ppm Letter and 38 ppm A4; duplex rates are separately 24 and 22. Scanner rates are different measures. The documented DADF does not establish a single-pass mechanism.

Paper handling

Included input is 250 cassette plus 100 multipurpose sheets, totaling 350. Exact-size capacity uses the confirmed 250-sheet cassette. Letter/A4 print duplex is established; Legal print duplex remains unassigned.

Scanning arrangement

The 50-sheet duplex ADF accepts Legal/Letter/A4; the 8.5 × 11.7-inch glass covers Letter/A4. Network SMB/FTP computer delivery is documented. USB-host saving does not establish USB computer scanning.

Computer and mobile connections

Computer USB 2.0, USB host and Gigabit Ethernet are distinct interfaces. AirPrint/Mopria require the appropriate shared network and exclude Wi-Fi Direct. No included wireless plan is assigned.

Supplies and declared yields

Starter/standard, high-yield and extra-high toner have separate declarations. The 9000-page cartridge is not assigned to every S2810-family model. Drum/fuser yields do not establish remaining life or current cost.

Software and support

SMB/FTP delivery requires destination credentials and configuration. Historical SharePoint On-Premise 2013 integration is separate from current cloud services. Held print jobs use the documented valid PIN.

Electrical edition and setup

The 120 V AC edition accepts 110–127 V at 50/60 Hz. Body: 17.3 × 17.2 × 19.4 inches, 41.9 lb with consumables. Allow scanner, paper, cable and service access; the extra drawer is optional.
