Smart Printer S2830dn (documentedUS120Vconfiguration)Illustrated overview
A useful fit for

A compatible computer workgroup needing Legal duplex and secure collection within the recommended monthly workload.

The main tradeoff

Wireless requires an optional adapter; native phone PIN collection remains unestablished.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can an Ethernet computer job combine Legal duplex, PIN release, 350 sheets and 7000 monthly pages?

Yes. These requirements fit the documented driver arrangement and maker recommended maximum.

A shared monochrome printer with useful base security

The Dell Smart Printer S2830dn is an earlier monochrome model for a compatible wired document routine. Its practical strengths are included automatic duplex, a 350-sheet ordinary paper supply and a documented four-digit PIN-release function. The numerical keypad makes that last feature more specific than a generic network-security heading.

It is a print-only machine. The color LCD helps with settings and troubleshooting, but neither a color screen nor a document-management application gives it a scanner, copier or color print engine. Start by deciding whether the actual workload needs only monochrome output.

Use the recommended workload rather than the maximum duty figure

Dell's original US sheet recommends 750–7200 pages per month. It separately declares a maximum monthly duty of 100,000 pages. Those numbers serve different purposes: the maximum should not be used as the normal workload target when selecting a printer.

The same source rates one-sided Letter output at up to 40ppm and duplex Letter output at up to 18ppm. Compare the appropriate job mode. First-page figures also distinguish a ready machine from deep sleep, so a continuous engine rate is not the elapsed time of every small print job.

The two paper-expansion arrangements cannot be mixed

The supplied paper arrangement combines a 250-sheet cassette with a 100-sheet multipurpose tray. That gives 350 ordinary sheets before adding accessories. Letter, Legal and A4 are documented for the standard paper paths and automatic duplex, subject to the stated media conditions.

There are two different expansion choices: one optional 550-sheet tray, or up to two optional 250-sheet trays. Dell explicitly states that the 550-sheet option cannot be combined with the 250-sheet option. Their resulting totals are consequently alternatives rather than capacities to add together.

The multipurpose route accepts envelopes, labels and heavier material under its own limits. Automatic duplex uses a narrower paper-weight range. Choosing a stock that fits one-sided special-media handling does not prove that the same stock can run through the reversing path.

PIN collection and native phone printing are separate checks

The original documentation describes keeping a print job private until a valid four-digit PIN is entered at the printer. Confirm the compatible computer driver and job settings for that routine. It is a useful requirement to demonstrate on the actual machine when sensitive documents would otherwise sit in an open tray.

AirPrint and Mopria are also listed, but their precise PIN-release behavior is not established by the same declaration. The questionnaire therefore keeps a documented computer-driver security arrangement separate from a native phone-printing arrangement. A buyer requiring both in one job should verify that complete workflow rather than assume that the capabilities combine automatically.

Included Ethernet is different from optional wireless

USB, Gigabit Ethernet and parallel connectivity are documented standard interfaces. An external wireless adapter is an option. The ability to add it does not establish that the basic offered machine is ready for a Wi-Fi-only location.

For native phone printing, use the confirmed ordinary network arrangement and check the actual device setup. Historical cloud-service names and operating-system lists should not be treated as guarantees of present service availability or current driver support.

Measure the installed configuration and check separate supplies

The documented US body measures 15.7 × 15 × 10.3 inches and weighs 31.2 pounds with consumables. Added trays change its height, while loading, cables and maintenance need extra working room. Shipping weight is a separate figure.

The original ship-with toner is declared at 3000 pages, with a different higher-yield replacement option and a separate imaging drum. Check suitable supplies, the cartridge arrangement and the condition of the individual older printer. The S2830dn fits a confirmed wired monochrome routine needing standard duplex and supported PIN collection, with expansion chosen around the actual paper workload.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

The US source gives 40 ppm Letter simplex and 18 ppm duplex. Recommended volume is 750–7200 monthly pages, separate from the 100000-page duty ceiling.

Paper handling

Included input is 250 cassette plus 100 multipurpose sheets. Letter/Legal/A4 duplex uses 60–90 gsm stock. Optional 550-sheet and paired 250-sheet expansions cannot be combined.

Scanning arrangement

This is a dedicated printer. It has no document scanner, automatic document feeder, copying or fax function.

Computer and mobile connections

Computer USB, Gigabit Ethernet and parallel are standard. Wireless needs the optional external adapter. Native AirPrint/Mopria are separate from desktop PIN-held jobs.

Supplies and declared yields

The original separates 3000-page ship-with/standard, 8500-page replacement and 60000-page imaging-drum declarations. Toner replacement does not renew the complete engine.

Software and support

Four-digit Secure Print is documented with the included memory configuration and compatible computer driver. The numeric keypad is separate from a touchscreen; native phone PIN behavior remains unestablished.

Electrical edition and setup

The original US edition is nominal 120 V AC, 47–63 Hz. Closed body: 15.7 × 15 × 10.3 inches, 31.2 lb with consumables. Optional trays and service access add space.
