Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can the reviewed US Color LaserJet 1600 print color Legal pages over USB with 250 ordinary sheets at 1,000 monthly pages?
Qualifies with earlier references enabled, actual compatible host-based computer driver and supported paper. The single-sheet priority slot is excluded from normal stacked capacity.
Explore this need in the finder →Can its driver two-sided setting print Letter duplex automatically without reloading?
Fails automatic duplex. Original manual requires two passes, operator stack reload and panel continuation.
Explore this need in the finder →Can the standard Color LaserJet 1600 provide an Ethernet AirPrint setup because support lists network help pages?
Fails that network/mobile arrangement. Exact configuration is native USB only and network ready None; generic support links and optional external hardware are not an included Ethernet route.
Explore this need in the finder →A color laser for a verified USB computer setup
The HP Color LaserJet 1600 is an earlier color print-only laser whose standard connection is USB 2.0. The exact HP US support record positively identifies the model and describes its US low-voltage configuration. No separately verified product SKU is asserted here. A compatible computer driver and the actual machine's electrical label are more useful checks than assuming that every similarly named unit shares the same region or software support.
The US support table lists 110–127-volt, 60-Hz power separately from 220–240-volt hardware. The original Spanish user guide uses a slightly different 115–127-volt, 50/60-Hz low-voltage range and also separates the 220-volt edition. Both support the reviewed US low-voltage, 60-Hz arrangement; neither establishes a universal dual-voltage supply.
The original feature table explicitly declares eight Letter pages per minute for black and for color, separately also eight A4 pages per minute. Those are maker specifications, not measured output in this review. Printing on special media may slow automatically, according to the guide. A nominal one-sided engine rate does not describe a complete manual two-sided job.
Host-based printing makes driver compatibility essential
The exact technical record describes a host-based print language and a USB connection, with network readiness listed as none. The actual driver must generate the printer's expected data. A working USB socket alone does not prove that a current operating system or application has a suitable driver.
The historical software lists describe older Windows environments and point to Linux support information. They do not establish universal compatibility with present software, nor do they add native Ethernet, infrastructure Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi Direct. Computer sharing and optional external print hardware would be separate arrangements that must be investigated on their own; they are excluded from this standard USB setup.
Native AirPrint and Mopria network routes are not included. This is also not a scanner, copier or fax. The generic appendix heading translated as MFP specifications and broad support links do not change the exact four-color printer configuration.
Count the paper stack separately from the priority slot
The main Tray 2 holds 250 ordinary sheets. Tray 1 is a single-sheet priority feed, useful for inserting a different first page or one special item. It is not a second stack of normal paper. The standard ordinary-sheet capacity used for matching is therefore 250, with the optional additional 250-sheet Tray 3 excluded.
Letter and Legal are named in the exact US specifications. The original guide also documents Letter/A4 loading, a universal main feed and its supported size range. A4 is retained as a supported ordinary paper size. For sheets longer than Letter or A4, the loading instructions extend the back of the tray. Leave room behind the printer and set the actual size and type in the driver.
Paper type and path matter. The original detailed tray table gives ordinary paper a 60–163 g/m² allowance, while broad current media fields name heavier allowances for particular HP stock. Those exceptions are not a general promise that any thick paper will feed or survive a second pass.
Two-sided printing requires the operator to return to the printer
The original manual explicitly says paper must pass through twice. In the supported Windows driver, enable manual two-sided handling, select its corresponding printing option and send the job. After the first pass, remove unused paper and reload the printed stack as the guide directs, then press the selection button to continue.
This is manual duplex, with no included automatic turn-over mechanism. Try a short numbered document to check ordering and orientation in the real application before relying on a longer stack. The guide prohibits two-sided printing on labels and transparencies; a manual setting does not make every special medium suitable for reuse.
Envelope handling is more specific than the ordinary-sheet capacity. Use one envelope in the priority slot or up to ten in the main tray. The guide limits envelope weight to 90 g/m² and shows the flap on the right, with the short edge toward the printer; follow the exact path's illustration. Select the correct envelope size and type rather than leaving ordinary-paper settings active.
Workload, cartridge identity and installation
The current exact US support record recommends 250–1,000 pages per month. Maximum duty is separately 20,000 pages, not the recommended ongoing workload. Held-document PIN release is unconfirmed; the small control panel and supply-status functions do not establish a private-job queue.
Original replacement supplies are Q6000A black, Q6001A cyan, Q6002A yellow and Q6003A magenta. The guide declares approximately 2,000 black pages and 2,500 pages per color at five-percent coverage. That historical coverage basis is not relabeled ISO/IEC 19798. Introductory cartridges were approximately 1,000 pages per color at five-percent coverage, and remaining toner in an older machine is unknown.
The original base body without the optional tray measures 407 by 453 by 370 mm. The current US inch figures round to approximately 16.1 by 17.8 by 14.6. Weight conditions differ between the current specification and the original body without supplies, so installed weight remains unconfirmed here. The 1600 fits a modest color-document routine when a real compatible USB driver and hands-on two-sided handling are acceptable.

Paper, software and setup details
Print-rate conditions
Original exact feature table positively declares 8 Letter ppm black and color, separately 8 A4. Actual special-media output may slow automatically. Recommended 250–1,000 pages monthly differs from duty 20,000. No measured testing.
Paper handling
Main Tray 2 holds 250 ordinary sheets; Tray 1 is a single-sheet priority slot and adds no ordinary stack capacity. Optional 250-sheet Tray 3 excluded. Letter/Legal exact US and original Letter/A4 loading plus universal feed documented. Original ordinary-paper 60–163 g/m² allowance is distinct from heavier named-stock exceptions. Manual two-sided refeed only; labels/transparencies cannot be printed twice. One envelope in slot or ten main tray, up to 90 g/m², follow exact path flap/right and short-edge illustration.
Scanning arrangement
Exact four-color laser is print only, no scanner, copier, fax, flatbed or feeder. Generic MFP appendix heading and support links do not add capture hardware.
Computer and mobile connections
Exact native host-based USB 2.0 computer printing only, network ready None. Actual supported driver must produce expected data; no invented modern OS support, native Ethernet/Wi-Fi/Direct, AirPrint/Mopria or optional external server. Generic network support links do not change hardware.
Supplies and declared yields
Original Q6000A black about 2,000 pages; Q6001A cyan, Q6002A yellow, Q6003A magenta about 2,500 each, historical 5% coverage basis. Introductory cartridges about 1,000 each at 5% per color. No ISO yield standard inferred and no remaining toner, current price or running cost assumed.
Software and support
Compatible actual host-based USB driver required. Original Windows manual-duplex feature must be enabled, printed stack reloaded and panel selection used to continue. Original historical OS list is not a present universal software promise. Held-document PIN release unconfirmed.
Electrical edition and setup
Exact US model identity and 110–127 VAC 60 Hz current power field; original low-voltage column 115–127 VAC 50/60 Hz slightly differs, both support the reviewed US 60-Hz configuration. Separate 220–240 V edition is not dual voltage. No verified SKU claimed. Original base without optional tray is 407×453×370 mm; current approximate inch width 16.1 differs slightly from 407 mm, so width bound is unknown. Depth 17.8 and height 14.6 inches agree. Installed weight unknown: original 15.67 kg excludes supplies versus current 40.5 lb with unclear condition. Earlier reference, no date or current stock claim.
