Check the exact 4700n configuration before comparing family features

The HP Color LaserJet 4700n is an earlier color print-only model with an embedded wired network connection. The n configuration is distinct from the 4700dn, which adds automatic duplex equipment. A general family description should not erase that difference.

If two-sided output is routine, consider the attendance needed for manual work or compare an equipped alternative. For mostly single-sided documents, the supplied paper handling and compatible network arrangement may be more relevant than additional family accessories. For manual two-sided jobs, run a complete short sample to confirm refeed orientation, page order and binding before committing a longer report to the queue.

The cabinet needs a practical installation

This is a substantial printer, with an original declared weight over 100 pounds and a body that needs more than a narrow shelf. Confirm the actual handling arrangement and leave room to load paper, collect output and open the necessary covers.

Closed dimensions do not include every working position. Before selecting a location, think about cables, cover movement and access to service areas. A printer that technically fits but must be moved for ordinary loading is unlikely to be convenient.

Two supplied sources support ordinary office paper

The base supply combines a 500-sheet cassette with a 100-sheet multipurpose tray. Letter, Legal and A4 are documented. Match guides and driver settings to the actual stock instead of relying on a generic default.

Optional feeders can change the installation, but should be verified in the individual offer. Extra sources may be useful for keeping different suitable office papers ready. That can reduce stock changes even when the maximum expanded capacity is unnecessary.

Envelopes use the specified multipurpose routine and have their own smaller limit. Specialty stock also needs its prescribed conditions. An accepted size is not permission for every coating, construction or weight, so trial the intended material in a small quantity.

Choose the working computer connection

The exact n model supplies USB and embedded Ethernet. It also has a parallel arrangement, with a documented restriction on simultaneous USB and parallel use. Plan the actual computer and cable route before assuming all connectors can serve at once.

Wireless needs an optional print-server arrangement rather than an included radio. Verify current compatible driver support and network settings on the computers that will send the work. Test representative files and reconnection after restarting the equipment.

The four-line display provides printer controls, but does not add scanning, copying or faxing. Incoming paper capture still needs another device or a multifunction alternative.

Use recurring workload rather than only the ceiling

The declared Letter rate is up to 31 pages per minute for monochrome and color, with a separate A4 figure. These are manufacturer declarations rather than our timing results. Short jobs, waking and complex layouts affect practical completion time.

The recommended monthly range is intended for recurring work. The larger duty ceiling is a different limit, not a target for sustained everyday use or an estimate of remaining life. Include peak batches, refills and collecting output in the comparison.

Assess condition and the complete supply system

Check the exact model and electrical plate, representative color output, feeding and the supplies installed. Black and the three colors are separate checks, along with other service components. Full-cartridge yield declarations cannot establish remaining toner or current running cost.

Confirm exact regional part compatibility and the supported software path before committing to an older unit. Choose the 4700n when its actual wired color routine, supplied paper handling and physical installation fit the office; compare another configuration when automatic duplex or a proven mobile workflow is essential.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

HP declares up to 31 Letter or 30 A4 pages per minute. Recommended monthly output is 3,000–10,000 pages; the 100,000-page maximum duty figure is a different measure.

Paper handling

Supplied input is a 100-sheet multipurpose tray plus a 500-sheet cassette for ordinary Letter, Legal and A4 paper. The exact n lacks automatic duplex; the dn differs. Use the instructed multipurpose route for envelopes. Optional feeders are additional equipment.

Scanning arrangement

Print-only equipment, without a scanner, copying glass, document feeder or fax.

Computer and mobile connections

USB and embedded Ethernet are supplied. USB and parallel cannot be used simultaneously. Wireless needs an optional print server; check the actual driver and network setup.

Supplies and declared yields

Check exact regional cartridges, service components and installed condition. Declared cartridge yield does not establish remaining toner or current running cost.

Software and support

The n has 160 MB standard memory. Private-job features are listed, but their exact storage and operating conditions are unconfirmed here. No scanner, copying or fax is included.

Electrical edition and setup

Earlier US Q7492A reference. Original body: 20.5 × 23.5 × 22.9 inches, 105.1 lb; the consumable basis is unconfirmed. Allow operating access and check the actual electrical plate.
