Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can a compatible USB computer print color Legal pages, capture Legal color originals through the feeder, copy and fax with 300 ordinary sheets?
Qualifies with earlier models enabled, compatible full software and separate suitable telephone service for fax. Legal originals use the 50-sheet feeder, while the included 50+250 print inputs supply 300 ordinary sheets. Two-sided printing remains manual.
Explore this need in the finder →Can I require automatic two-sided Letter printing through Ethernet?
Fails. The exact nf series table specifies manual two-sided printing. The automatic duplexer belongs to fxi and is not included here.
Explore this need in the finder →Can the included printer join office Wi-Fi for color scanning?
Fails. Exact nf support explicitly says no wireless capability; the included computer interfaces are USB and wired Ethernet. A separately added network bridge is outside this configuration.
Explore this need in the finder →Color office work with manual two-sided output
The HP Color LaserJet CM2320nf combines color printing, copying, computer scanning and analog fax for an established wired office. Its useful distinction is standalone scan-to-email after network configuration. Its main compromise is manual two-sided printing: the nf does not include the fxi model's automatic duplexer, third cassette or photo memory-card slots.
This review covers discontinued US CC436A#ABA and the documented low-voltage US configuration. The original manual and brochure distinguish low-voltage and 220–240-V editions; an English manual is not a reason to connect an imported high-voltage unit to an unsuitable outlet. Confirm the actual unit label and condition.
The later US brochure expressly rates black and color Letter output at up to 21 ppm. The older guide instead lists 20 Letter/19 A4 ppm, so those versions should not be silently combined. HP recommends 1,000–2,500 pages monthly, separately from its 40,000-page maximum duty figure. These are published specifications rather than review measurements.
Start with a compatible wired computer
Included computer connections are Hi-Speed USB 2.0 and 10/100 Ethernet. HP explicitly lists no wireless capability for the exact nf. The telephone connections serve fax, rather than providing another computer network. A separately added wireless bridge or print server is not part of this assessment.
The original computer workflow uses compatible HP LaserJet Scan/HP Director or TWAIN/WIA-compliant software. Its supported setup can deliver captured files to the computer over USB or the wired network. Panel-initiated computer destinations require software preconfiguration; merely discovering the printer for printing does not configure a scan destination.
Historical installation and OS lists help identify the intended software arrangement but do not guarantee that every feature works with a current computer. Bonjour discovery also does not independently establish AirPrint. AirPrint, Mopria and PIN-held print release remain unconfirmed here; Private Receive protects incoming faxes rather than held computer print jobs.
Legal originals use the feeder
The original feeder holds up to 50 sheets on the guide's 80-g/m², 20-lb basis. It accepts Letter, A4 and Legal documents. Load originals face up with their top edges entering first, adjust the guides and extend the support for pages longer than Letter/A4. Keep photographs, fragile originals, clips and staples out of that feed path.
The flatbed supports Letter/A4-sized work and independently confirmed color capture. Place the original face down against the indicated corner, leave the feeder empty when using the glass and close the lid gently. The glass cannot accommodate a full Legal original, even though the same machine prints and feeder-scans Legal pages.
The reviewed sources establish ordinary feeder scanning to a computer. They do not positively establish an automatic two-sided scan-file workflow or its mechanism for this nf. The finder therefore qualifies its simplex feeder route and leaves automatic duplex and single-pass capture unconfirmed. The fxi's separate automatic copying instructions are not borrowed.
Email needs an SMTP service
The exact series table marks nf scan-to-email as standalone, unlike the n model's PC-assisted email. That still requires a configured network and SMTP server, with the applicable address, authentication and security arrangement. Complete the actual email setup before expecting the panel to deliver files.
The original sending procedure accepts either glass or feeder input and explicitly directs Legal paper to the feeder. Choose the recipient and correct Letter, Legal or A4 scan size before sending. A computer receives the resulting attachment through email; this is a different route from directly initiating HP Scan over USB.
Analog fax separately requires appropriate telephone service and configuration. Neither working email nor Ethernet proves that fax works through an arbitrary VoIP arrangement. The nf's absent memory-card slots also mean the shared guide's card-scanning steps are not an included alternative.
Paper and toner belong to this configuration
The included inputs total 300 ordinary sheets: a 50-sheet multipurpose tray and a 250-sheet cassette. The optional additional 250-sheet cassette would increase the installed configuration, but is not counted as supplied. The 150-sheet output and 50-sheet original feeder do not add to blank-paper reserve.
Letter, Legal and A4 printing are documented. Set the actual paper size/type and guides rather than relying on software defaults; special media have different limits from ordinary stock. Envelope printing is supported. A two-sided document needs the compatible driver's manual workflow and a deliberate reload, which is unsuitable when automatic duplex is a requirement.
Original introductory black and composite color yields are approximately 1,200 pages. Replacement black CB540A is declared around 3,500 pages, while cyan CB541A, yellow CB542A and magenta CB543A are around 2,800 each under ISO/IEC 19798. Actual yields vary with printing conditions.
The later exact nf brochure lists a 19.6 × 19.4 × 21.7-inch body and 65 lb including cartridges; older generic guide figures differ. Allow additional paper, scanner and supply-door access. A current wired MFP with positively supported software is a sensible alternative when maintaining this older setup would outweigh its useful functions.

Paper, software and setup details
Print-rate conditions
Later original US brochure explicitly rates up to 21 Letter ppm in black and color; earlier guide instead lists 20 Letter and 19 A4, retained as a source-version difference rather than combined. Recommended monthly volume is 1,000–2,500, distinct from 40,000 maximum duty. Exact US support ADF scan speed has a separate XP-WIA/Letter/default-settings basis, not print speed.
Paper handling
Exact nf includes 50-sheet multipurpose input plus one 250-sheet cassette, totaling 300 ordinary sheets; original guide ordinary-paper capacity basis is 75-g/m², 20-lb stock. Third 250-sheet cassette is optional, unlike fxi. The 150-sheet output and 50-sheet original feeder are separate. Letter/Legal/A4 printing and envelopes are supported, with correct size/type/guides and special-media limits. Exact nf table specifies manual two-sided printing/copying, not included automatic duplex. No fxi automatic duplexer or extra tray borrowed.
Scanning arrangement
Color scanning is independently supported on Letter/A4 glass and 50-sheet Letter/Legal/A4 feeder. Original feeder capacity uses 80-g/m², 20-lb basis, distinct from print-tray stock; load originals face up/top first, extend support for longer-than-Letter/A4 pages and adjust guides. Fragile/photo/small originals use glass face down at the indicated corner, feeder empty. Original glass maximum A4 and Legal-through-feeder procedure exclude Legal flatbed. Compatible HP scanning software/TWAIN/WIA provides computer files. Automatic duplex scan files and single-pass mechanism remain unconfirmed for nf, without borrowing fxi automatic-copy procedures.
Computer and mobile connections
Included USB 2.0 and Ethernet 10/100 computer interfaces; exact nf support says wireless capability No. Separate RJ-11 telephone connections serve fax. Actual full scanning software supports USB/network computer capture, with panel computer destinations preconfigured through software. Standalone scan-to-email is positive for nf but needs network/SMTP configuration. No AirPrint from Bonjour discovery, no included wireless adapter, and no fxi memory-card slots borrowed.
Supplies and declared yields
Original box introductory black and composite C/Y/M yields are approximately 1,200 pages. Replacement CB540A black approximately 3,500, cyan CB541A/yellow CB542A/magenta CB543A approximately 2,800 each, under ISO/IEC 19798 continuous-printing conditions. Actual yields vary; no remaining toner, current price or editorial measurement is inferred. No lifetime HP+ commitment is invented.
Software and support
Original HP LaserJet Scan/HP Director/TWAIN/WIA and panel preconfiguration require their compatible actual installation; historical OS lists are not a current software guarantee. Standalone SMTP email supports glass or feeder input, with Legal in feeder, actual destination and scan-size selection. It delivers an email attachment to a computer, not direct USB pull scanning. SMTP server and any required authentication/security must be configured. Private Receive and administration passwords are not held-print PIN release.
Electrical edition and setup
Discontinued exact US CC436A#ABA and documented low-voltage US edition: original manual/brochure 100–127 V, 60 Hz, later exact US support 110–127 V, 60 Hz; 220–240-V editions separate, do not convert voltage. Later exact nf brochure body is 19.6 W × 19.4 D × 21.7 H inches and 65 lb including cartridges. Older generic fax-model guide gives 21-inch height/68.5 lb and is retained as a difference, not silently substituted or called shipping. Allow open trays, feeder/glass, supplies and cables. nf has fax/color graphical display/standalone email but no fxi third cassette, card slots or automatic print duplex.
