Color LaserJet CP1515n (CC377A)Illustrated overview
A useful fit for

A compatible small office printing modest color workloads that can refill a small cassette and turn two-sided jobs manually.

The main tradeoff

There is no automatic duplex unit or scanner, and CP1518ni photo-card features are excluded from this configuration.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can Ethernet print color Legal documents for an 800-page month with 150 sheets loaded?

Yes with compatible software and the correct Legal tray extension and paper settings. The original recommended range is 250–1000 pages/month, the cassette holds 150 suitable 75 gsm sheets, and the original color Letter declaration is 8 pages/min.

Can USB printing use suitable envelopes without a memory-card reader?

Yes. Envelopes have a documented priority-slot or smaller cassette loading routine. The CP1515n uses a compatible computer connection; the memory-card and PictBridge hardware belongs to CP1518ni.

Does the manual driver routine satisfy automatic duplex Letter printing?

No. It prints the first sides and requires the user to reload the stack and resume. That is separate from an automatic duplex unit.

Small color workloads suit its cassette and connection choices

The HP Color LaserJet CP1515n is an earlier color laser printer with USB and built-in Ethernet. HP identifies the reviewed US product as CC377A and marks it discontinued. Its practical arrangement is computer printing, rather than scanning, copying or faxing.

The recommended monthly range is 250–1000 pages, separate from the 30,000-page maximum duty ceiling. That smaller planning range is more useful when considering the 150-sheet cassette, consumable changes and how often a person will be near the printer.

Manual duplex involves a specific reload step

The original Windows routine enables manual duplexing in the driver configuration, then selects Print On Both Sides (Manually) in the Finishing tab. The printer produces the first sides and waits for the user to turn and reload the stack.

The guide instructs the user to remove remaining unprinted sheets, straighten the printed pages and return them printed side down with the top edge toward the back of the tray. Resume then prints the second sides. This is operator-assisted printing, not an automatic duplex unit.

A Confidential watermark elsewhere in the driver instructions is also a different function: it places visible text on a page. It does not establish that a private document waits at the panel for a release PIN.

The single-sheet path does not create another paper drawer

The base has a 150-sheet cassette and one-sheet priority feed. Suitable Letter, Legal and A4 ordinary paper are supported in both size-table columns. The cassette's full-count basis is 75 gsm paper; the single sheet is attended, so unattended ordinary-paper capacity remains 150.

For Legal, extend the cassette using its release tab and allow the approximately 51 mm projection from the front of the printer. Align both guides to the actual stack and keep it below the limit tabs. A closed cabinet measurement alone does not show the working space needed for long paper.

Envelopes have their own smaller routine: one through the priority slot or up to 10 suitable envelopes in the cassette, with stock no heavier than 90 gsm. The documented orientation is face up with the stamp end at the back. Use laser-compatible construction and match size and type in the driver.

Use the ports that belong to CP1515n

The guide documents an A-to-B USB cable for direct computer printing and a 10/100 Ethernet connection for a network. Follow the installer's USB connection timing. For networking, connect the printer, print a configuration page and identify its hardware or IP address in the compatible driver installation.

The CP1518ni's front memory-card slots and PictBridge camera port are explicitly restricted to that photo-imaging model. They do not belong to CP1515n. Similarly, a generic wireless or mobile help link on a support page is not evidence of included Wi-Fi, AirPrint or Mopria.

Verify current driver support for the actual computer rather than relying only on the historical operating systems listed in the manual. A working Ethernet address also does not create scanner hardware or a network scan destination.

Keep declared speed, supplies and physical fit separate

The original guide explicitly declares up to 12 one-sided Letter or A4 pages per minute in black and 8 in color. Those figures have different media and job conditions from photographs, first-page timing and actual completion of a complex file. They are manufacturer declarations, not measurements from this review.

The guide identifies the four CB540A–CB543A cartridge positions, with regional supply markings to check. Inspect actual consumables and avoid assuming another model's initial contents. Original documents also give different body depths, so verify the particular unit and its working clearance. Check its electrical label: the family includes separate voltage editions, rather than a universal-voltage printer.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

The original guide explicitly declares up to 12 one-sided Letter or A4 pages/min in black and 8 in color. A generic HP toner-landing narrative giving 18/20 ppm contradicts the actual guide and is rejected. HP recommends 250–1000 printed pages/month, separately from the 30,000-page maximum duty ceiling. These are manufacturer declarations with job and software conditions, not tested throughput or a recommendation to use the maximum duty every month.

Paper handling

The 150-sheet input cassette and single-sheet priority slot are distinct sources. Both original size-table columns support Letter, Legal and A4. The full ordinary-paper cassette basis is 75 gsm within 60–90 gsm; an attended single sheet is not an extra unattended supply, so capacity is 150 rather than 151. Extend the cassette approximately 51 mm when loading Legal and allow extra front clearance. Envelopes use suitable stock up to 90 gsm, singly through the priority slot or up to 10 in the cassette, face up with the stamp end at the back. Manual duplex requires refeeding, not automatic paper turning.

Scanning arrangement

The CP1515n is a color laser printer without scanner, copier, fax modem, glass or original feeder. Front photo memory-card slots and PictBridge are explicitly CP1518ni-only features; they are not included on this model.

Computer and mobile connections

USB 2.0 A-to-B computer printing and built-in 10/100 Ethernet are documented. Follow the software installer's connection timing for USB. For network printing, connect to the network, print a configuration page and identify the printer by its hardware or IP address in a compatible driver installation. Native Wi-Fi and modern mobile protocols are not established by these exact sources. A generic support-site link about wireless or mobile printing is not a model-specific hardware statement.

Supplies and declared yields

The original guide identifies CB540A black, CB541A cyan, CB542A yellow and CB543A magenta supplies. HP's regional table identifies 125A for the Americas/Europe and corresponding CB numbers for Asia-Pacific. Do not transfer a related model's initial-cartridge contents or assume current remaining life. All four cartridge conditions matter, and a nominal replacement declaration does not establish running cost.

Software and support

The compatible Windows routine enables Allow Manual Duplexing in the driver configuration and Print On Both Sides (Manually) in Finishing. Print the first sides, remove remaining unprinted paper, straighten and reload the printed stack face down with its top toward the back, then resume. This needs the operator and does not meet an automatic-duplex requirement. A Confidential watermark in the same driver chapter prints visible text; it is not PIN-held release. Included PIN printing, AirPrint and Mopria remain unestablished.

Electrical edition and setup

The shared original guide and exact HP specification agree on approximately 399 mm/15.7-inch width and 254 mm/10-inch height. Original depth 436 mm/17.2 inches differs from later 452/453 mm listings, so depth remains unestablished for strict fit. Body-weight measurement basis is not resolved here. Legal loading adds front projection beyond the closed cabinet. Separate low/high voltage editions exist, and HP warns against converting operating voltage. Verify the actual label; US product identity does not prove a particular used unit's electrical edition.
