Color LaserJet CP2025nIllustrated overview
A useful fit for

A 750–2,000-page monthly wired color routine using Letter/Legal/A4 and two separate standard paper stacks.

The main tradeoff

The n model supports manual duplex only despite a contradictory general field. No scanner or included wireless; optional trays, native AirPrint/Mopria and strict exact-body bounds are not assumed.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can the earlier CP2025n serve 2,000 monthly color Legal pages through Ethernet with 300 ordinary sheets included?

Qualifies with earlier references enabled, correct US electrical unit, compatible installed driver and documented ordinary paper. Its included feeds are 50 plus 250 sheets; optional Tray 3 is excluded.

Does a general specification field saying automatic duplex make CP2025n automatically turn Letter sheets over USB?

Fails. HP dedicated CP2025 instructions explicitly say CP2025n supports only manual two-sided printing; the dn/x automatic mechanism is not included in n.

Explore this need in the finder →
Can a standard CP2025n provide built-in Wi-Fi color printing with 500 sheets without adding hardware?

Fails both standard requirements. Its included routes are USB/Ethernet and normal capacity is 300; wireless hardware and a third tray are optional additions.

A wired color printer whose n suffix does not add automatic duplex

The HP Color LaserJet CP2025n is an earlier color print-only machine for a compatible USB computer or a wired Ethernet network. Its standard configuration combines a 250-sheet main tray with a genuine 50-sheet multipurpose stack. It fits an office needing separate ordinary-paper feeds without adding scanning or copying equipment to the desk.

The exact HP US product page identifies CB494A#ABA and explicitly marks it discontinued. The US technical record gives a 115–127-volt, 60-Hz electrical configuration separately from 220–240-volt hardware. The associated original guide uses a broader low-voltage range. Inspect the real rating label; these separate editions do not establish universal dual-voltage operation.

There is an important original-source conflict. A current general specification field calls duplex automatic, but HP's dedicated CP2025 duplex article explicitly states that CP2025 and CP2025n support only manual two-sided printing. The associated original model comparison also reserves automatic hardware for dn/x versions. This review uses that explicit suffix-specific explanation: the n model does not qualify for automatic duplex.

Separate normal paper stacks from optional additions

Standard normal-paper capacity is 300 sheets: 50 in Tray 1 plus 250 in Tray 2. Tray 1 is a useful stack feed rather than a one-sheet insertion slot. An optional additional 250-sheet Tray 3 can change an actual installation, but it is excluded from the reviewed n configuration and from its included-capacity matches.

The original paper table positively checks Letter, Legal and A4 in both included feeds. A3 appears as an unmarked row, so its printed name is not evidence of support. Legal loading extends the front of the main tray about 2.5 inches; leave that operating clearance even if the closed body fits its intended furniture.

The detailed ordinary-paper capacity tables use 60–90 g/m² stock. Heavier presentation and brochure papers have separate weight and stack-height conditions, with additional exceptions for specified HP glossy media. A heavy glossy allowance does not authorize every similarly weighted stock or prove that it is suitable for a second pass.

For envelopes, the multipurpose routine documents up to ten, face up with the postage end toward the rear of the tray. Select the exact envelope size and type, use laser-compatible stock and avoid windows, metal clasps and unsuitable adhesives. The 300-sheet normal-paper headline is not an envelope quantity.

Manual two-sided jobs require someone at the printer

Use the manual-duplex option provided by a compatible driver, then follow its prompt to return the first-side stack. The associated original Mac instructions specifically require the second pass from Tray 1, after removing unused sheets, with printed faces up and the bottom edge entering first. Follow the actual driver's order rather than copying a reload direction from another HP model.

A generic driver setting cannot supply the automatic duplex mechanism that belongs to a different suffix. If two-sided handouts are a substantial part of the routine, an independently verified duplex-equipped printer is the more sensible direction. No measured time saving is claimed here; manual reloading simply adds a physical step the operator must complete.

Ethernet networking is not an included wireless or scanning system

Included interfaces are USB 2.0 for a host computer and Fast Ethernet 10/100Base-TX. The original setup instructions configure the printer's network address, install the corresponding driver and print a test document. PCL 6, PCL 5 and PostScript level 3 emulation are documented languages, but compatibility still depends on the actual computer and driver.

Wireless support is described as optional hardware. That accessory is not part of the standard printer, and related wireless-support links do not add a built-in radio or Wi-Fi Direct. HP's exact mobile matrix identifies HP Print Service Plugin for this family; native AirPrint and Mopria are not established by the sources used here. Neither protocol is borrowed from nearby newer models in that table.

This is a color printer without a scanner, feeder, standalone copy or fax. Network configuration passwords and general security functions also do not establish held-document PIN release, which remains unconfirmed.

Workload and four replacement cartridges

The associated original engine specification declares up to 21 one-sided Letter pages per minute in black or color, separately 20 on A4. Those are maker rates, not measured results or a two-sided workflow rate. Recommended monthly printing is 750–2,000 pages; the separate 40,000-page maximum duty figure is not the recommended sustained load.

Replacement supplies are 304A CC530A black, CC531A cyan, CC532A yellow and CC533A magenta. HP declares approximately 3,500 black pages and a 2,800-page composite color yield under ISO/IEC 19798. The original exact US datasheet separately lists introductory cartridges at approximately 1,200 black and composite color pages. Actual documents affect yield, and a replacement declaration says nothing about toner remaining in an older unit. No current cartridge price or cost per page is assumed.

The exact original US datasheet gives a body of approximately 15.9 by 17.9 by 12.7 inches and 50.0 pounds including cartridges. That specific n column supplies a clearer unit basis than the older generic family row. Output-bin figures still differ between the associated guide and exact US records. Allow tray extension and service access beyond the closed body. The CP2025n is most useful when wired color printing and two paper stacks matter more than automatic page turning or multifunction capture.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

HP-associated original CP2020/CP2025 guide explicitly declares 21 Letter ppm black/color, separately 20 A4. Maker rate, no measured or manual-duplex workflow rate. Recommended monthly 750–2,000 is separate from maximum duty 40,000.

Paper handling

Included 50-sheet multipurpose Tray 1 plus 250-sheet Tray 2 = 300 normal sheets; optional Tray 3 excluded. Personally viewed original table checks Letter/Legal/A4 in both included feeds; A3 row has no checks. Legal main tray extends approximately 2.5 inches forward. Detailed ordinary-paper capacity 60–90 g/m² differs from heavier named-type allowances. Tray 1 up to ten envelopes face up/postage end to rear, correct driver size/type. No automatic duplex on n per exact dedicated article despite contradictory general specification field.

Scanning arrangement

Exact color print-only configuration, no scanner, feeder, hardware copy or fax. Network/mobile support does not add capture hardware.

Computer and mobile connections

Standard USB 2.0 host and built-in Fast Ethernet 10/100Base-TX. Wireless only with separately purchased hardware, excluded. No included infrastructure Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi Direct route. Exact HP mobile row lists HP Print Service Plugin; native AirPrint and Mopria unconfirmed, no protocol borrowed from adjacent models.

Supplies and declared yields

Exact US 304A replacements CC530A black approximately 3,500 pages; CC531A cyan, CC532A yellow and CC533A magenta approximately 2,800 composite color pages, original HP maker continuous replacement declarations under ISO/IEC 19798. Newly personally read original HP 4AA2-0208ENUC July 2008 separately lists introductory approximately 1,200 black and 1,200 composite color pages. Actual content affects yield; remaining toner, current price and running cost unknown.

Software and support

Actual compatible PCL 6/PCL 5/PostScript level 3 emulation driver required. Original Mac manual-duplex second pass uses Tray 1, printed face up/bottom edge first, follow actual driver prompts. Generic automatic-duplex driver setting does not add n hardware. System/admin password is not held-job PIN release; that feature unconfirmed.

Electrical edition and setup

Exact US CB494A#ABA discontinued identity; positive original US low-voltage 115–127-V 60-Hz supply, separate 220–240-V editions, no dual-voltage conversion. Newly personally read exact HP US datasheet n column gives 15.9×17.9×12.7 inches and 50.0 lb including cartridges. These exact US unit figures supply the previously unconfirmed body fields; older generic CP2020 nonduplex-family figures are retained as another source scope. Original guide output 125 differs from exact US datasheet/current 150; no unqualified output guarantee. Leave room for Legal tray extension, supplies and rear-path access.
