Color LaserJet CP2025xIllustrated overview
A useful fit for

Prepared electronic color documents on a compatible USB computer or wired network, with included paper flexibility and a 750–2,000-page recommended monthly routine.

The main tradeoff

No scanner, copier, fax or included wireless radio. The x’s 550-sheet input is its documented maximum; AirPrint/Mopria and job PIN release remain unconfirmed.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Does the earlier CP2025x qualify for color A4 automatic duplex over Ethernet with 550 included A4 sheets?

Qualifies with earlier references enabled, compatible installed driver and all three included feeds actually loaded with ordinary A4 paper. The exact HP bulletin confirms A4 automatic duplex, independently of the family input headline.

Explore this need in the finder →
Can its duplexer scan a two-sided Letter original to the USB computer?

Fails scanning. The duplexer handles printed output; this color printer has no flatbed, feeder or document scanner.

Will a standard CP2025x meet an 800-sheet included Legal-paper requirement by adding another family cassette position?

Fails the included-capacity requirement. The x package provides 550 ordinary Legal sheets, and the original exact datasheet says no further input trays can be added to x. Optional family expansion is not another included cassette.

The extra cassette changes paper handling, not the document functions

The HP Color LaserJet CP2025x is the useful CP2025 configuration when three included feeds matter: a 50-sheet multipurpose tray and two 250-sheet cassettes provide 550 ordinary sheets. It also includes automatic two-sided color printing and wired networking. Its limitation is equally clear: this is a printer, with no scanner, standalone copier or fax.

HP's exact US listing identifies CB496A#ABA and explicitly marks it discontinued. The original US datasheet independently identifies CB496A and shows the third cassette included. This review concerns its documented 115–127-volt, 60-Hz US configuration. A regional 220–240-volt edition is a separate supply, so inspect the actual unit label before connecting an imported or previously owned machine.

HP recommends 750–2,000 printed pages monthly. The separate 40,000-page maximum duty rating should not be treated as a normal sustained workload. Having more paper loaded does not raise the recommended monthly range or make the print engine faster.

Use the three feeds for the paper actually loaded

The original series table distinguishes x from n and dn: tray 3 is standard on x and optional on the others. The US selection guide separately confirms 550 standard and maximum input for x. The original datasheet says no further input trays can be added to this configuration, so an expandable-family headline is not an invitation to count another cassette.

Both cassettes and the multipurpose feed support Letter, Legal and A4 in the associated original media table. Ordinary capacity is based on 60–90-g/m² paper. If all three feeds hold the same selected size, 550 sheets are available for that routine. Loading different sizes or specialty stock divides that physical capacity; the printer does not simultaneously hold 550 sheets of each size.

Set each tray's actual size and type, then choose the appropriate source or automatic selection in the compatible driver. Keep letterhead orientation and print settings consistent. A longer job can still need operator attention when a particular tray contains a special paper different from the rest.

Tray 1 handles an instructed envelope batch of up to ten supported envelopes. Place the printable side up and the postage end toward the back, and select its actual envelope size/type. The envelope routine is one-sided. Normal capacity and automatic duplex do not turn the x into an automatic two-sided envelope system.

Automatic duplex needs the installed driver and supported media

The exact x configuration includes the automatic duplexer. HP's dn/x support bulletin explicitly supports Letter, Legal and A4 two-sided printing. Its setup procedure checks the Configuration report and the driver's installed duplex-unit option, then disables the manual-duplex option. Follow the equivalent controls in the actual available driver.

Choose long-edge or short-edge binding for the document's page orientation. The associated original guide cautions against duplex stock above 105 g/m²; heavier stock allowed for a named one-sided media routine should not be assumed suitable for automatic page turning. Load and configure paper before sending a long set.

The declared one-sided Letter rate is up to 21 pages per minute in black or color, separately 20 A4. Those maker figures describe a different condition from automatic two-sided output and do not predict a particular complex document's completion time. No hands-on speed or print-quality testing is claimed here.

Shared color output over USB or a wired network

Included interfaces are USB 2.0 computer printing and Fast Ethernet 10/100Base-TX. USB can serve a directly connected compatible computer, while Ethernet provides the native wired network arrangement. Install an appropriate actual driver and verify the computer's supported software; the historical Windows and Mac list does not guarantee present operating-system compatibility.

The original specification lists PCL 6, PCL 5c and HP PostScript level 3 emulation. Its advertised ImageREt 3600 is an enhancement designation for a 600-by-600-dpi engine, not evidence of 3,600 physical dots per inch or a measured photo-printing result.

A wireless print server is an optional accessory, not a built-in x radio. HP's current mobile matrix names HP Print Service Plugin for the exact CP2025 family; AirPrint and Mopria operation remain unconfirmed here. The network settings password and color lockout do not establish PIN-held document release either.

Four replacement cartridges and a taller body

The documented 304A replacements are CC530A black, CC531A cyan, CC532A yellow and CC533A magenta. HP's original datasheet declares approximately 3,500 black pages and 2,800 composite color pages under ISO/IEC 19798 continuous-yield conditions. Its original introductory set has separate approximately 1,200-page black and composite color declarations. Actual document coverage affects yield; current costs and remaining cartridge contents are not assumed.

The exact US x column gives approximately 15.9 inches width, 19.1 depth, 16.6 height and 61.3 pounds including cartridges. It is taller and heavier than the original dn package. Legal cassette extension, toner access and rear-path servicing need additional working room. The x is sensible for prepared electronic color documents and included paper flexibility; choose a documented MFP for paper-original capture or a different printer when essential native mobile protocols must be established.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Maker one-sided Letter rate up to 21 ppm black/color, separately 20 A4 in the associated original guide. Actual software, driver and document complexity affect output; no measured or automatic-duplex rate inferred. Recommended monthly printing 750–2,000, separate maximum duty 40,000.

Paper handling

Exact x includes a 50-sheet multipurpose feed and two 250-sheet cassettes, total 550 ordinary 60–90-g/m² sheets. The original tables support Letter/Legal/A4 in all three feeds; 550 of a selected size assumes those feeds actually contain that size. Original US datasheet says no further input trays can be added to x. Exact HP dn/x bulletin supports automatic duplex Letter/A4/Legal. Original duplex routine cautions against paper above 105 g/m². Up to ten instructed envelopes through tray 1, printable face up/postage end toward the back, one-sided; not a 550-envelope allowance.

Scanning arrangement

A color print-only laser printer, with no scanner, flatbed, feeder, standalone copy or fax. Automatic duplex turns printed sheets; it does not scan originals or create two-sided computer files.

Computer and mobile connections

Included USB 2.0 computer printing and built-in 10/100Base-TX Ethernet; compatible installed driver required. Radio is an optional hardware addition, not included Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi Direct. HP mobile matrix names HP Print Service Plugin for this exact family; AirPrint/Mopria support is unconfirmed, not inferred from Bonjour or an Ethernet socket.

Supplies and declared yields

304A replacements: CC530A black approximately 3,500 pages; CC531A cyan, CC532A yellow and CC533A magenta approximately 2,800 composite color pages. Original HP 4AA2-0208ENUC declares continuous yields under ISO/IEC 19798. Original introductory cartridges approximately 1,200 black and 1,200 composite color pages, separate from replacements. Actual coverage affects yield; supplied remaining capacity, current cartridge availability and live page cost unknown.

Software and support

Original compatible printer drivers include PCL 6, PCL 5c and HP PostScript level 3 emulation. HP exact dn/x duplex bulletin instructs checking the Configuration report, installing the Duplex unit in Device Settings and disabling Allow Manual Duplexing before choosing automatic two-sided output. Historical XP/Vista/Mac driver screens are original instructions, not present support guarantees. Network administration password and color lockout do not establish private-job PIN release; that feature remains unknown.

Electrical edition and setup

Exact US CB496A#ABA discontinued identity and original US low-voltage 115–127-V 60-Hz supply; separate 220–240-V editions, not universal voltage. Actual x closed body 15.9×19.1×16.6 inches, 61.3 lb including cartridges in exact US datasheet column. Original older generic CP2020 duplex row does not identify x with its extra cassette and is not the body basis. Allow extra Legal tray extension, front toner and rear-path/service access. Original guide output figure 125 differs from exact US datasheet 150; no unqualified output allowance.
