A useful fit for

A compatible wired office printing recurring color documents without needing a scanner or included extra feeder.

The main tradeoff

The 500-sheet feeder, wireless server and disk required for private-job retrieval are optional; verify present software and condition.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can it print Legal color documents automatically on both sides with 350 supplied sheets and a 3,000-page monthly routine?

Yes, with the actual supplied trays and compatible desktop driver; this is ordinary-paper printing rather than scanning or optional stored jobs.

Color network printing without the multifunction hardware

The HP Color LaserJet CP3505dn is an earlier print-only machine for a shared wired office. It includes Fast Ethernet, computer USB and automatic two-sided printing. It does not scan, copy or fax, so its role is producing documents from a compatible computer rather than handling incoming originals.

The dn package is CB443A. Its useful differences from the other CP3505 configurations are the included duplexer and the ordinary supplied paper capacity. Those physical details matter when comparing an earlier offer whose accessories may have changed over time.

Start with the actual trays, not the expansion headline

The multipurpose tray holds 100 ordinary sheets and the main cassette 250, giving the dn 350 supplied sheets in total. A further 500-sheet feeder is optional. That larger arrangement is part of the related x package, but it should not be assumed on a dn unless the actual extra feeder is present.

The original guide marks Letter, Legal and A4 for the ordinary inputs. Select the correct size and type in the driver and check the tray guides. An input accepting a sheet does not automatically establish every finishing mode for that sheet.

Envelopes use the multipurpose tray with a separate ten-envelope limit and specified orientation. Their capacity should not be added to the ordinary-paper count, and they should not inherit the duplex assumptions used for office sheets.

Automatic duplex is included, with media restrictions

The original operating guide expressly identifies the dn and x for automatic two-sided printing. Its driver routine uses the Finishing tab and a binding choice, which determines how the reverse side reads when the finished document is turned. Confirm that the driver knows a duplexer is installed.

The reviewed US brochure specifically names Letter and Legal for that automatic path. Although A4 is supported as an ordinary input size, this assessment does not extend the reviewed duplex-size promise beyond its explicit evidence.

Media restrictions also matter. The operating procedure gives a narrower paper-weight caution than a broader sales table and excludes labels, transparencies and glossy paper from automatic duplex. Follow the operating instructions for the actual media instead of treating every printable material as suitable for two-sided output.

Wired networking does not include every optional feature

The built-in Ethernet connection can share the printer on a compatible network. USB provides a separate computer connection. Original accessory lists also include wireless servers, parallel cards and storage, but those optional items are not included merely because an expansion slot exists.

The original software lists describe historical systems. Check the current driver route, document language and required controls before choosing the machine for a present computer. A working basic print queue is useful evidence, but it does not establish mobile protocols or every finishing option.

Private-print retrieval needs additional hardware

HP documents stored jobs and PIN-protected retrieval, but explicitly restricts that menu to printers with an installed hard disk. The base dn assessment therefore does not count private PIN printing as an included feature. A management password is a different function and does not satisfy that requirement.

If private-job release is essential, verify the actual disk, supported driver and retrieval process on the offered unit. A generic claim that the printer supports job storage is insufficient when the required accessory is missing.

Evaluate it for a recurring color-print workload

HP recommends 1,500–5,000 printed pages per month. The 65,000-page maximum duty figure is a separate measure rather than the routine target. Four color cartridges introduce supply considerations even if many jobs are mainly black text.

Allow room for paper loading, cartridge access and cables. Check the electrical plate, condition and actual accessory package, and do not treat historical cartridge yields as toner remaining in an earlier offer. The CP3505dn fits compatible wired color printing when 350 supplied sheets are sufficient; compare the x when an included larger feeder is part of the requirement.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Up to 22 Letter or 21 A4 ppm, black or color. Recommended monthly printing is 1,500–5,000 pages; maximum duty is 65,000. No editorial benchmark is claimed.

Paper handling

Letter, Legal and A4 ordinary inputs are marked in the original guide. The US brochure explicitly lists Letter/Legal automatic duplex; A4 duplex is not established by that reviewed size-specific source and is not admitted. Envelopes use Tray 1 only with a separate ten-envelope limit and specified face-down orientation. Actual duplex routine cautions against more than 105 g/m² even though broader sales tables quote 120; use the narrower operating limit. Labels, transparencies and glossy paper are expressly excluded from automatic duplex. The dn supplies 100 plus 250 sheets; its additional 500-sheet feeder is optional.

Scanning arrangement

Print-only model: no scanner, copier, document feeder or fax. Network printing is not network capture.

Computer and mobile connections

Included computer USB 2.0 and Fast Ethernet; wireless, parallel-port and storage accessories are optional and not part of this base assessment. AirPrint, Mopria and standard Wi-Fi Direct are not established by the original material.

Supplies and declared yields

Four original color cartridges: Q6470A black and Q7581A/Q7582A/Q7583A cyan/yellow/magenta. The brochure rates each at about 6,000 pages at stated coverage; its original full-cartridge package is not proof of remaining toner in an earlier offer.

Software and support

Use a compatible computer driver configured for the actual duplexer and installed trays. Finishing/Print on Both Sides and binding controls are documented. Retrieve Job and private PIN jobs explicitly require an installed hard disk; the optional disk is excluded from this base configuration. Historical Windows/Mac/network lists need checking against the current intended system.

Electrical edition and setup

Original US brochure specifies 110–127 V, 50/60 Hz for its North American configurations. Check the actual offered unit plate and included accessories. Earlier documentation is not an exact-model stock or official-discontinuation finding.
