A useful fit for

A wired office printing 1,500–5,000 recommended monthly pages, using ordinary Letter, Legal or A4 stock and a compatible computer driver.

The main tradeoff

Second sides require manual Tray 1 handling. There is no scanner or included Wi-Fi, and PIN jobs require an optional hard drive. Original body dimensions conflict, so measure the actual unit and its service space.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can a wired office print color Legal documents with 350 ordinary sheets ready in the included trays?

Qualifies with earlier references enabled, the documented US CP3505n, a compatible Ethernet computer queue and suitable Legal paper in both included inputs. Second sides require manual handling; no lower 500-sheet accessory is assumed.

Does this n automatically duplex A4 from a USB computer?

Fails. Its exact n column has manual two-sided printing, using a compatible driver and a return of the first-half output to Tray 1. Automatic hardware belongs to the different dn and x configurations.

Can the standard CP3505n hold an Ethernet print job for PIN release without extra storage hardware?

Fails the included PIN requirement. Both Retrieve Job and Manage stored jobs require an installed hard drive. The disk is optional and absent from the original included-box configuration; standard RAM is insufficient evidence.

A wired color printer whose suffix matters

The HP Color LaserJet CP3505n is an earlier color laser for computer printing over USB or a wired office network. Its included configuration combines a 100-sheet multipurpose tray, a 250-sheet main tray and embedded 10/100 Ethernet. The deciding compromise is manual two-sided printing. The automatic duplexer described elsewhere in the series belongs to the dn and x configurations.

HP's exact US page identifies CB442A#ABA and marks it discontinued. This review concerns that documented US low-voltage configuration. The American brochure specifies 110–127 V at 50/60 Hz; the manual separately describes 220–240-V editions. Check the actual plate and option code rather than assuming that an imported unit accepts a US outlet.

This is a print-only arrangement. There is no document glass, feeder, copier or fax. Color printing means producing color pages, not capturing a color original. The n's 256 MB of memory also does not establish included secure job storage.

Make the two included trays work together

Letter, Legal and A4 have explicit support in both included inputs. When both contain the selected ordinary stock, their combined reserve is 350 sheets. The original capacity table uses 75-g/m² paper; thick material reaches the physical limit sooner. The additional 500-sheet lower tray is optional for the n and is not counted. The 250-sheet output bin is a separate destination.

Extend Tray 1's support, set the guides and load ordinary paper print-side down, with its top short edge entering first. Keep the stack below the tabs. For one-sided letterhead in Tray 2, the original routine places the printed face up with the top toward the front of the tray. Adjust the guides to the actual size, keep the stack under its height limits and avoid opening or loading a tray during printing.

Set the actual paper type and size in the panel and driver. The manual explains that selecting a specific type and size can protect a dedicated forms tray. An Any setting removes that protection, potentially allowing another job to use those forms. A source selection that disagrees with the loaded size can instead leave the printer waiting for the requested stock.

Manual duplex depends on the computer's actual instructions

The original Windows procedure uses Finishing and Print on Both Sides manually. It prints the first half, then asks you to return the output stack to Tray 1. Follow the on-screen return instructions and use the panel button if prompted. Its initial letterhead directions put Tray 1's front side down and top first; other trays use front side down with the top at the back.

The original Mac procedure gives different initial Tray 1 directions for forms: face up, bottom first. Choose Manual Duplex, or Manually Print on 2nd Side if that option is unavailable. After the first half, remove blank paper from Tray 1 and return the printed stack face up, bottom first. The second half must use Tray 1. Both original manual-duplex procedures caution against paper heavier than 105 g/m².

These are separate driver routines, so a single universal reloading rule would be misleading. Verify that the current computer has a compatible driver exposing the required controls. Historical Windows and Mac support lists do not guarantee present-day compatibility. Unattended automatic two-sided work fails this n configuration's capabilities.

Use a small, properly selected envelope batch

The detailed envelope-loading instructions and media table specify up to ten envelopes in Tray 1. A general features section says twenty; this review follows the smaller limit repeated in the actual loading routine. Load the printable face down, stamp area farthest from the printer and short edge toward it. Adjust the guides without forcing the envelopes inward.

Select the real envelope size and type. Use a one-sided job and suitable laser-printer envelopes, avoiding clasps, windows and pressure-sensitive adhesive. Envelope support does not make an ordinary two-sided paper routine suitable for envelopes.

Network access and PIN release have different prerequisites

USB provides a direct computer printing route. Ethernet uses the included Jetdirect interface: connect the real network cable, obtain the printer's actual address and configure the matching queue. The original manual includes IPv4 address, subnet and gateway setup. The embedded web server is an administration interface, not a scanner.

Wireless hardware is optional. Neither old Bonjour discovery nor the word wireless in an accessory list proves included Wi-Fi, AirPrint or Mopria. Those mobile services remain unconfirmed here.

The Retrieve Job menu and Manage stored jobs section explicitly require an installed hard drive. A disk is an optional accessory, absent from the original included-box configuration. Consequently, included PIN release is false. An administrator password is not a private-print PIN, and the n's standard RAM does not remove the disk prerequisite. A separately equipped unit would need its actual disk and compatible driver checked.

Check supply and space assumptions before choosing an earlier unit

HP declares up to 22 one-sided Letter ppm in black or color, separately 21 on A4. Recommended monthly volume is 1,500–5,000 pages; the 65,000-page maximum duty is a different figure. These are maker declarations, not measured throughput.

Exact cartridges are Q6470A black, Q7581A cyan, Q7582A yellow and Q7583A magenta. Each has a declared 6,000-page yield at five-percent coverage. That basis is not an ISO/IEC 19798 claim or a promise about toner remaining in an earlier unit.

Space needs deserve direct measurement. The US brochure lists the n at 16.25 by 20.07 by 16.9 inches, while the manual's base-body table gives 15.7 by 17.7 by 15.7 inches. Their measurement boundaries are not reconciled, so strict body-size matching remains unknown. The brochure's 59.6-lb weight explicitly includes cartridges; the manual's 44.8-lb base figure excludes them. Allow practical loading, cable and service access around the actual machine.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

HP original exact n configuration declares 22 one-sided Letter ppm, separately 21 A4 ppm, in black or color. Recommended monthly 1,500–5,000 is distinct from maximum 65,000 duty. No measured speed or manual-duplex throughput claimed.

Paper handling

Included 100-sheet Tray 1 and 250-sheet Tray 2 both positively support Letter, Legal and A4, totaling 350 ordinary 75-g/m² sheets when both hold selected stock. Optional 500-sheet Tray 3 and 250-sheet output bin are not included input capacity. The n has manual duplex only; dn/x automatic hardware is not borrowed. Windows Finishing manual-duplex routine returns output to Tray 1 using its actual popup, while original Mac removes blank paper and returns printed stack face up/bottom first. Initial forms orientation differs between those OS routines; use the actual compatible driver. Both caution against manual-duplex paper over 105 g/m². Ordinary one-sided Tray 1 is print-side down/top first; Tray 2 letterhead face up/top at front. Set guides and actual type/size, respect fill limits and do not load during printing. Detailed envelope routine and media table repeat up to ten in Tray 1, overriding inconsistent generic twenty-envelope claim; print-side down/stamp farthest/short edge toward printer, one-sided, correct envelope settings.

Scanning arrangement

Exact original configuration is a print-only color laser, with no scanner, copier, fax, flatbed or ADF. Color output and its display do not establish document capture. No physical capture route inferred from software or networking.

Computer and mobile connections

Exact original n includes computer USB 2.0 and Jetdirect 10/100 Ethernet. Configure real wired network address/subnet/gateway and matching compatible computer queue. Wireless print servers are optional accessories, not included Wi-Fi. Old Bonjour discovery does not establish AirPrint or Mopria; those services remain unknown. Embedded web server is administrative and not a scan route.

Supplies and declared yields

Exact original parts Q6470A black, Q7581A cyan, Q7582A yellow, Q7583A magenta. Original US brochure declares 6,000 pages each at five-percent coverage, not ISO/IEC 19798. Original full-capacity installed cartridges do not prove actual remainder in an earlier unit. No tested quality, current supply price or HP+ requirement claimed.

Software and support

Original Retrieve Job menu physical 26 appears only with an installed hard disk; Manage stored jobs physical 93 independently requires an installed hard drive, including four-digit PIN release. Original brochure and parts list describe disk as optional and original box omits it. Included secure PIN false, not inferred from n memory or borrowed from a different model. Verify actual compatible driver for manual duplex and any added disk; historical OS listings do not guarantee current support.

Electrical edition and setup

Exact HP US identity CB442A#ABA explicitly discontinued; earlier opt-in required. Original US brochure low-voltage 110–127 V 50/60 Hz and manual 100–127 V 50–60 Hz both include US 120 V; separate 220–240-V editions are not dual voltage, check actual option code and plate. Body dimensions conflict: exact n US brochure 16.25×20.07×16.9 inches versus original manual base/no-duplex 15.7×17.7×15.7. Boundaries unresolved; all body dimension fields remain unknown for strict matching, measure actual machine and service space. Brochure weight 59.6 lb includes cartridges; manual base 44.8 lb excludes cartridges, not a compatible loaded-weight substitute. No current-stock promise.
