A Flow configuration for a wired document workflow

The HP Color LaserJet Enterprise Flow MFP M577c is an earlier color workgroup multifunction printer identified as B5L54A on HP's US site. Its standard equipment includes printing, copying, color scanning and fax. This review covers the documented 100–127-volt, 60-Hz configuration. The exact current US support record and original configuration table establish the model independently of another M577 suffix.

The Flow distinction adds a physical keyboard, embedded OCR and document-handling tools described in the guide, including ultrasonic multi-feed detection. These can help a configured capture routine, but they do not eliminate the need to verify the actual file destination, document quality and current firmware. The original exact c column also includes fax; the inherited claim that c fax was only optional is not retained.

Single-pass scanning does not establish every glass dimension

The included 100-page ADF uses dual heads for automatic single-pass duplex capture. Its documented feed range reaches 8.5 by 14 inches, supporting Letter, Legal and A4 originals. Choose the original's sides, size, color and output format correctly. Embedded OCR creates a searchable or editable result where configured; it is not a guarantee that every word or page orientation will be recognized correctly.

A flatbed is present for suitable originals that should not travel through the feeder. Separate exact glass dimensions were not established from the material read, so the Legal ADF limit is not borrowed as a Legal-flatbed claim. A separate Managed M577cm/dnm specification is also not substituted for this B5L54A model.

Network email and shared-folder scanning require administrator configuration, a compatible SMTP gateway or folder destination, and the necessary authentication. The guide also assigns SharePoint sending to Flow models, subject to configuration and actual destination compatibility. Test the intended current system rather than assuming a historical server list guarantees it will work.

Count the included paper by size

Standard input is a 100-sheet multipurpose tray and 550-sheet Tray 2, rated at 75 g/m². Together they provide 650 ordinary Letter or A4 sheets. HP's paper/component table excludes Legal from the standard Tray 2 and lists it for Tray 1 and optional 550-sheet feeders. Standard Legal input is consequently 100 sheets, not 650.

Automatic print duplex is included and positively supports Letter, Legal and A4. The documented duplex media range is 60 to 163 g/m². Use the correct compatible driver, media setting and binding direction. Additional 550-sheet trays are optional, and a family maximum is not included capacity. Ten suitable envelopes use Tray 1 with the appropriate Envelope/manual-feed routine rather than the main cassette or a duplex-envelope promise.

Match the complete connection and job controls

Standard computer connections are USB device printing and Gigabit Ethernet. A compatible driver can create a Personal or Stored Job with a four-digit PIN for release at the panel. This is separate from an administrator password or a generic security headline. Check the actual Job Storage controls and release sequence.

Ethernet provides the established computer scan-delivery route after email or folder setup. Scanning to an enabled USB flash-drive port is a distinct removable-file workflow and does not prove scanning through a USB printer cable. A USB-only computer plan therefore receives printing and local device functions, not the network scan capabilities.

AirPrint is documented for a mobile device on the same network or subnet as the Ethernet-connected printer. Built-in Wi-Fi Direct belongs to the z configuration; the c requires optional wireless accessories for those routes. A named Mopria setup was not independently established for c. Mobile printing also does not borrow computer-driver PIN or duplex controls that were not established in that mobile routine.

Included analog fax needs its own suitable telephone line and configuration; Ethernet is not telephone service. The convenience stapler is a local aid, not automatic in-line finishing. Verify that the offered unit retains the intended hardware.

Check routine volume and the actual earlier machine

HP rates one-sided printing up to 40 Letter pages per minute in black or color, separately 38 A4. These are maker claims, not scan IPM, duplex throughput or our test. Recommended workload is 2,000 to 7,500 monthly pages, distinct from the 80,000-page maximum duty cycle. The documented 508A/508X cartridge family uses separate black, cyan, yellow and magenta supplies; check actual remaining toner rather than assuming a nominal replacement yield remains.

The exact closed dimensions are about 18.98 by 19.84 by 22.95 inches, with the guide assigning 85 pounds to c. Allow additional lid, keyboard, tray and service space, and verify the rating label. A complete M577c can fit a wired color office when its configured capture tools, actual per-size paper capacity and separate fax-line requirement match the work.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Maker maximum 40 one-sided Letter pages per minute in black or color, separately 38 A4. Not scan IPM, duplex throughput or an actual-unit test. Recommended 2,000–7,500 monthly pages; maximum monthly duty 80,000 is separate.

Paper handling

Included 100-sheet Tray 1 plus 550-sheet Tray 2 at 75 g/m²: 650 Letter/A4 sheets. Exact HP size table excludes Legal from standard Tray 2, so standard Legal input is 100 from Tray 1. Letter/Legal/A4 automatic duplex is positively listed; duplex media 60–163 g/m². Further 550-sheet feeders optional. Ten envelopes use Tray 1 only with correct envelope/manual-feed settings.

Scanning arrangement

Included 100-page dual-head single-pass duplex ADF; exact model specifications give 105×127 to 216×356 mm feed range, supporting Letter/Legal/A4. Color scan documented in original settings. Flatbed exists, but separate glass dimensions were not established from exact read material; flatbed:[] records known route with unknown size, without borrowing a Managed M577dnm/cm sheet.

Computer and mobile connections

Exact Flow M577c includes USB printing, Gigabit Ethernet and fax per original exact column/current US family table. Computer scans use configured compatible SMTP/folder network destination; separate suitable configured analog fax line. c has no included integrated Wi-Fi Direct or wireless networking; AirPrint same subnet is documented, exact Mopria arrangement unestablished.

Supplies and declared yields

Original exact M577 guide lists 508A CF360A/CF361A/CF362A/CF363A and 508X CF360X/CF361X/CF362X/CF363X. Installed remaining toner and included yield are not inferred from another suffix or generic replacement listing.

Software and support

Use a currently compatible computer driver for automatic duplex and four-digit Personal/Stored Job PIN release. Ethernet scans need administrator-enabled compatible SMTP email gateway or credentialed shared folder. USB flash-drive scanning is a separate enabled walk-up port, not proof of USB-cable scanning to a computer. AirPrint uses the same network/subnet; mobile PIN/duplex controls are not borrowed from a computer driver.

Electrical edition and setup

Review the documented US 100–127 VAC 60 Hz version; 200–240 VAC 50 Hz edition is separate and not dual-voltage. Check actual part-option/rating label. Exact closed body 18.98 W×19.84 D×22.95 H in; original guide rounds 19×19.8×23. Full opening/service space is greater. Included fax also requires a suitable separately configured analog line; network cable does not supply telephone service.
