A useful fit for

Compatible shared color work when wired placement and paper supply matter more than automatic two-sided output.

The main tradeoff

The n model uses manual duplex; the xh storage and expanded paper package are different configurations.

The manual two-sided routine is the main tradeoff

The HP Color LaserJet Enterprise M651n is an earlier color print-only model with a touchscreen and substantial ordinary-paper input. The exact n configuration uses manual duplex. That distinction matters more than a general family description when reports need both sides.

For mostly single-sided forms and occasional attended two-sided work, the tradeoff may be acceptable. For repeated reports that should finish without refeeding, compare an automatically duplexing configuration such as the M651dn. For manual work, test the refeed orientation and page order with a complete short document before committing a larger batch.

The base paper supply totals 600 ordinary sheets

The supplied arrangement combines a 500-sheet cassette with a 100-sheet multipurpose tray. Ordinary Letter, Legal and A4 are documented. Match guides and driver settings to the stock, and leave room to load and collect pages comfortably.

Optional feeders expand capacity, but must be present in the actual offer. A photograph of the tall M651xh package should not be used to describe the base M651n. Different paper sources can help keep suitable stocks ready, even when maximum total capacity is not important.

Envelopes and specialty materials have separate loading and capacity instructions. A wide accepted-size range does not mean every construction or coating is suitable. Test a small quantity of the actual stationery before assigning a repeated batch.

Plan around USB or a wired network

USB and Ethernet are supplied connections. Wireless and the older Direct or NFC arrangements require the appropriate optional accessory and supported setup. A mobile feature in a family introduction does not establish a radio in the base machine.

For a shared office, agree the queue, driver and paper defaults. Test representative documents from the computers people actually use. Include reconnecting after a restart, rather than relying only on the printer appearing in a discovery list.

The easy-access memory-device port is a different path from computer USB and may need administrator enablement. Confirm supported files and the intended process if walk-up printing is part of the office routine.

The touchscreen does not make this a multifunction device

The screen provides access to printer controls, but the M651n has no glass scanner, original feeder, copy function or fax. If incoming paperwork needs capture, account for a separate scanner or compare a multifunction model.

The adjacent xh configuration also has a different storage package. Check the actual installed equipment if a particular held-job or wider authentication workflow matters. A list of user access features is not the same as a proven process for releasing a specific document.

Use the exact rate and recurring workload guidance

The US Letter declaration is up to 45 pages per minute for both monochrome and color. It is a manufacturer engine figure, not our measured completion time. A short complex file and a continuous text batch can have different practical waiting times.

The recommended monthly range helps plan recurring work, while the much larger duty ceiling describes another limit. Count ordinary months and peak days, including refills and collecting output. Neither figure predicts the remaining life of a particular older machine.

Check the complete offered configuration

Black and color replacements have different declared yields, and toner collection and other service components are separate checks. Use exact regional part references. A full-cartridge declaration cannot show remaining installed toner or establish current running cost.

Inspect the exact model and electrical plate, feeding and representative color output. The power edition must match the offered option code; different regional editions should not be treated as a universal supply. Leave cover, tray and cable access, then choose the M651n when its wired color routine and manual-duplex tradeoff suit the job.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

HP declares 45 Letter pages per minute in monochrome and color; 42 A4 uses a different paper basis. Recommended monthly output is 2,000–17,000 pages, distinct from 120,000 maximum duty.

Paper handling

Supplied input is 100 + 500 ordinary sheets for Letter, Legal and A4. The exact n uses manual duplex; generic family wording does not add a duplexer. Envelopes have a separate Tray 1 routine. Extra feeders are optional.

Scanning arrangement

Print-only equipment, without a scanner, copying glass, document feeder or fax.

Computer and mobile connections

USB and Gigabit Ethernet are supplied. Wireless, legacy Wireless Direct and NFC require optional equipment. A host socket may require administrator enablement and is separate from computer USB. Check compatible current drivers.

Supplies and declared yields

Match exact regional 652A/654X black and 654A color references, plus collection, transfer and fuser parts. Full-cartridge yield does not establish remaining toner or current cost.

Software and support

The touchscreen controls a print-only machine. The xh hard disk is not included on the n. A user-authentication PIN list does not establish a private-job release routine.

Electrical edition and setup

Earlier US configuration. Original body is approximately 21.65 × 20.47 × 17.91 inches and 86.2 lb. Allow tray, cover and cable access. Check the actual regional option and electrical plate; voltage editions are not dual voltage.
