A useful fit for

Compatible shared color workloads where the documented rate and touchscreen fit the office routine.

The main tradeoff

The M653x radio and extra cassette are a different package; this dn does not add a scanner.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can it automatically duplex color Legal documents over Ethernet with 650 sheets?

Yes, using documented ordinary media conditions and compatible software.

A touchscreen color printer for a wired workgroup

The HP Color LaserJet Enterprise M653dn is an earlier print-only model with a touchscreen, automatic two-sided output and wired connections. The screen helps users reach device controls and stored jobs, but does not add scanning, copying or faxing.

Its configuration should be kept separate from the M653x. The extra supplied cassette and integrated Direct arrangement on that model do not automatically belong to the dn. Check the exact offered hardware before deciding how it will fit the office.

The declared Letter rate is higher than the M652 figures

The exact declaration is up to 60 Letter pages per minute for monochrome and color. That is a manufacturer engine figure rather than our measured document timing. A waking machine, a complex chart and a stream of separate short jobs can each give a different completion time.

For a useful comparison, think about the work repeated through the day. The time someone waits for a complete small report may matter more than the continuous engine rate. Include representative layouts and color pages when checking an offered unit.

650 supplied sheets provide the starting paper arrangement

The standard input combines a 100-sheet multipurpose tray and a 550-sheet cassette. An additional feeder changes the installation and must actually be included. The tallest family picture is not evidence of the accessories in an individual offer.

Ordinary Letter, Legal and A4 are documented, including automatic duplex on the dn configuration under the appropriate media conditions. Set binding and stock correctly, then check a short complete report before a larger batch.

Keeping alternate suitable stocks ready can reduce repeated unloading. For envelopes, follow the separate multipurpose loading routine and capacity instead of applying ordinary cassette figures. Specialty materials do not become duplex-compatible merely because they fit a feed path.

Separate ordinary networking from optional mobile arrangements

USB and Ethernet are supplied. The original exact model table does not give the dn an integrated Direct radio. Optional wireless accessories need the correct hardware and supported configuration; a family mobile feature description is not enough.

For a shared queue, verify current driver support and agreed paper defaults on the actual computers. Test reconnecting after a restart as well as sending a representative file. The memory-device port is a separate path and may be controlled by the administrator.

Private jobs use a deliberate release process

The guide describes Personal Job mode in supported desktop drivers, with a selected PIN or password and release through the device’s stored-job controls. That workflow can help an owner be present when sensitive output appears.

Check that the job stays held, releases as intended and is handled correctly afterward. Temporary personal jobs and optional persistent storage have different behavior, including what happens after power interruption. A network access password is not the same as protecting an individual print job.

Use recurring workload and supply checks together

The exact manufacturer recommendation provides a recurring monthly range. Count typical volume and peak batches, then include refills and output collection in the practical routine. A larger duty ceiling is a different limit and does not predict an older unit’s remaining life.

Black and the three colors are separate consumables, with standard and high-yield options. Match exact cartridge and part references, inspect what is installed and assess representative color output. Full-cartridge yield declarations cannot reveal remaining toner or current running cost.

Finally, check the exact model and electrical plate and leave space for covers, trays, cables and output access. Choose the M653dn when compatible shared color work benefits from its documented rate, touchscreen and automatic paper routine; compare another package when included wireless or paper capture is essential.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

The exact guide declares 60 Letter or 56 A4 pages per minute. Recommended monthly output is 2,000–17,000 pages. No duty figure is transferred from a neighboring model and no measured timing is claimed.

Paper handling

A 100-sheet multipurpose tray and 550-sheet cassette are supplied. Ordinary Letter, Legal and A4 automatic duplex is documented under suitable media conditions. The x model adds a different paper package. Envelopes use the instructed Tray 1 routine, up to ten.

Scanning arrangement

Print-only equipment, without a scanner, copying glass, document feeder or fax.

Computer and mobile connections

USB and Gigabit Ethernet are supplied. Wi-Fi and Direct require appropriate optional Jetdirect equipment. Computer USB and the easy-access host socket are separate; an administrator may control host access.

Supplies and declared yields

The original guide identifies 655A standard and 656X high-yield supplies. An ambiguous yellow heading should not replace exact cartridge/part matching. Check regional supplies and installed condition; declared yield is not remaining toner or current cost.

Software and support

The M653dn has a color touchscreen and 1 GB memory. Compatible desktop Personal Job mode supports PIN/password release. Temporary jobs and optional permanent storage differ; an optional 500 GB disk is not assumed included.

Electrical edition and setup

Earlier US configuration. Original closed body is 20 × 18 × 20 inches; allow additional operating access. Weight remains unassigned across configuration differences. Check the actual electrical plate and software support.
