M680dn (CZ248A)Illustrated overview
A useful fit for

Shared office color printing and configured folder capture without needing the larger supplied z package.

The main tradeoff

Fax, expanded feeders and finishing are optional; the base still needs substantial desk and operating space.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can the dn scan a color Legal original from the glass to a folder with 600 ordinary input sheets?

Yes under a compatible configured Ethernet folder and the documented paper arrangement.

Does the supplied dn include analog fax?

No. That requires the appropriate optional accessory and telephone setup.

Can it capture two-sided color batches in one pass without an exact original-size condition?

Yes. The 100-sheet single-pass feeder is confirmed; check the actual stock and instructions.

Choose the dn for the functions supplied in the smaller package

The HP Color LaserJet Enterprise MFP M680dn combines color printing, copying and scanning with a 100-sheet single-pass document feeder. Its exact CZ248A package starts with a smaller supplied paper arrangement than the larger finishing tower in the same family.

That can be a useful distinction for an office needing color capture and output but not a large stack of extra feeders. Compare the actual included equipment rather than a family photograph showing a different suffix.

Start with the supplied six-hundred-sheet input

The base supplies a 100-sheet multipurpose input and a 500-sheet cassette. Additional feeders and the stapling mailbox are optional on this configuration. They should not be counted simply because the family can support a larger paper total.

Consider the stock repeated through the week. The two sources can provide an ordinary paper routine with room for a suitable alternate material, but settings need to match the actual loading. Agree defaults when several people share the queue.

Automatic two-sided output is supplied. Check the paper-specific size, weight and driver conditions for the intended report before running a larger batch. Envelopes and heavier materials follow their separate instructed paths rather than automatically inheriting the duplex routine.

Single-pass capture is supplied without all the Flow z additions

The original model comparison confirms single-pass two-sided scanning on the dn. That is relevant when documents regularly contain information on both sides and the office wants to avoid manual page turning.

The enhanced EveryPage detection, pull-out keyboard and embedded Flow capture additions should not be transferred from the z package. Compare the exact scanner features that matter for the incoming document workload.

The glass has a documented Legal-sized route. It can be useful for suitable longer originals and items that should not travel through feeder rollers. For batches, verify the required original size and stock as well as the feeder method.

Inspect a complete saved file for page order, edges, color and missing pages. A clean first sheet is not enough to show that an earlier feeder handles a repeated mixed document routine well.

Configure the destination as part of choosing the scanner

Ethernet scanning to a network folder needs a reachable compatible share, the right path and suitable access. Set up a clear destination on the panel and check that the intended staff can retrieve their output.

Test the route again after changing a computer, server or password. Printing can continue even if a folder destination stops accepting files. A shortcut is useful when the full delivery route remains working.

The walk-up USB memory route is separate from direct scanning into a computer application over USB. Check the intended software and connection rather than assuming a socket provides every scanning arrangement.

Make optional fax and wireless explicit

The exact dn does not include analog fax. If that function is essential, verify the appropriate accessory and supported telephone setup. The fax supplied with other family configurations is not part of this base package by default.

USB and Gigabit Ethernet are supplied printing connections. Wireless, Direct and NFC require optional equipment. Check the installed hardware and compatible current driver when comparing an offer described broadly as network-ready.

Inspect the earlier machine and its operating room

The smaller family package is still substantial equipment. Measure the available surface and leave room for the scanner lid, paper loading, covers, cables and service access. Confirm the actual regional electrical plate before installation.

Inspect repeated feeding, color output, scanning, storage and supply condition. Use the recommended monthly range for recurring workload planning rather than treating maximum duty as a normal target. Choose the M680dn when its supplied wired color and capture routine fits; compare another package when included fax, finishing or a smaller installation matters more.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

HP declares 45 Letter or 42 A4 pages per minute in monochrome and color. Recommended monthly output is 3,000–17,000 pages, distinct from 120,000 maximum duty. Scanner image rates are separate; no measured timing is claimed.

Paper handling

Exact dn supplies 100-sheet multipurpose plus 500-sheet main cassette,600 ordinary sheets. Additional feeders and finishing mailbox are optional, not the z tower. Ordinary Letter/Legal/A4 fit the documented input ranges. Automatic output duplex is included, but paper-specific duplex limits are unconfirmed here. Envelopes use their instructed bypass routine.

Scanning arrangement

The exact model matrix confirms a 100-sheet single-pass two-sided color feeder. Its paper-specific method range is unconfirmed here. The flatbed covers ordinary Letter, Legal and A4. Enhanced z EveryPage, keyboard and embedded OCR are not transferred. Computer delivery uses a configured compatible Ethernet network folder with valid access; USB memory scanning does not establish direct USB computer scanning.

Computer and mobile connections

Computer USB and Gigabit Ethernet are supplied. Wi-Fi, Direct and NFC require appropriate optional Jetdirect equipment despite contradictory generic network-ready wording. Analog fax is optional on the exact dn. Check actual client/server compatibility.

Supplies and declared yields

Check regional 652A/653X black and 653A color cartridges, transfer, fuser, waste and other service components. Declared cartridge yield is not remaining toner or current running cost.

Software and support

The original sheet lists 2 GB memory and an encrypted hard disk. A security-feature list does not establish the exact PIN-release operating routine here. Advanced sending, authentication accessories and cloud services are separate decisions.

Electrical edition and setup

Earlier CZ248A base. Original body 31.1×25×23 inches,124.3 lb. Allow scanner lid, paper input, covers and service access. Regional voltage editions differ; inspect the actual electrical plate.
