Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can it print color over infrastructure Wi-Fi with automatic duplex hardware and 150 ordinary sheets ready?
Yes through compatible HP desktop print software and the documented supplied cassette; check the exact duplex paper settings.
Explore this need in the finder →Does the single-sheet slot give it 151 unattended cassette sheets?
No. The priority slot is an attended loading path; the normal cassette capacity is 150.
Explore this need in the finder →Does an AirPrint requirement preserve the desktop automatic-duplex controls?
No. The original guide warns those HP-driver controls may not be available through AirPrint, so the combined route is not confirmed.
Explore this need in the finder →Consider it for color output without an integrated scanner
The HP Color LaserJet Pro M252dw is an earlier print-only model with automatic two-sided output and a choice of wired and wireless connections. It can suit a small document routine where color printing matters but scanning and copying are handled elsewhere.
The exact dw suffix matters. Its touchscreen, wireless functions and duplex equipment should not be inferred for the separate n configuration. Compare the actual model code and installed equipment when looking at an older offer.
The priority slot is useful for attended exceptions
The main cassette holds 150 ordinary sheets. The separate single-sheet priority slot is intended for an attended page or suitable alternate material, with the user supporting it as instructed while the printer takes the sheet.
That can be convenient when an occasional special page should not require replacing the whole main stack. It is not an extra unattended cassette. If repeated batches are the main work, consider how often the smaller main source will need attention.
Set the correct paper type and size in the software. Preprinted stock needs the right orientation, which can change between one-sided and two-sided work. Try a complete sample before making it a shared routine.
Legal paper changes the operating footprint
The main tray extends forward for Legal paper. Leave room for that loading position instead of planning only from the closed-body depth. The rear access and front supply drawer also need usable clearance.
Envelope work has its own instructions. The priority slot provides an attended route, while the cassette has a small envelope-loading limit. Treat that as a separate job with suitable settings rather than simply adding envelopes to an ordinary paper stack.
Desktop duplex and mobile printing are different arrangements
The compatible HP desktop driver provides the documented automatic two-sided control. Check the intended paper and binding before relying on it for reports. An installed duplexer does not mean every application exposes identical settings.
The original macOS instructions specifically warn that the HP-driver duplex feature might not be available through AirPrint. If both mobile submission and automatic two-sided output are essential, test that complete routine with the exact device and software instead of combining two independent feature labels.
USB suits a direct computer connection, while Ethernet and infrastructure Wi-Fi provide local-network choices. Check current driver support for the computers involved. Wireless convenience depends on a working network setup as well as a radio inside the printer.
Direct printing still needs a compatible device
Wi-Fi Direct can provide a printing connection without joining the office network. It must be enabled, and the sending device needs the appropriate connection and application. NFC is a supported-device pairing convenience rather than a promise that every phone can tap and print.
Plan how users will distinguish the normal network queue from the Direct route. A printer can be physically nearby while the computer is still sending to a different saved connection. Keep the intended route clear when several people share the device.
Check supplies and condition before choosing an earlier unit
The four-color cartridge arrangement means black-only and color-document use have different supply implications. Check the exact regional cartridge family and what remains in the offered machine. An original introductory package or a declared replacement yield does not establish current running cost.
Inspect representative output, repeated feeding, duplex behavior, the touchscreen and the connections that matter to you. Try a representative color file from the computer you will actually use; a built-in demonstration page does not exercise that software route. Confirm the electrical plate and current software support. Choose the M252dw when its small color-printing routine and connection choices fit, while comparing another arrangement when frequent loading or integrated document capture would become a daily inconvenience.

Paper, software and setup details
Print-rate conditions
Manufacturer declares 19 Letter or 18 A4 monochrome/color pages per minute. Recommended recurring output is 250–2,500 monthly; 30,000 maximum duty is separate. No measured or automatic-duplex speed is claimed.
Paper handling
Supplied 150-sheet cassette plus an attended single-sheet priority slot. The slot is not an extra unattended cassette position, so capacity is recorded as 150. The main cassette accepts ordinary Letter/Legal/A4; Legal loading extends its front approximately 2 inches. Envelopes may use the instructed priority slot or cassette, with no more than five in the cassette. Automatic output duplex hardware is included; precise size-specific duplex limits are unestablished here.
Scanning arrangement
Print-only equipment, without a scanner, copying glass, document feeder or fax.
Computer and mobile connections
Computer USB, Ethernet, infrastructure Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct and NFC are supplied on exact dw, unlike n. Original guide labels Ethernet Gigabit but exact US product page says Fast Ethernet; no interface-speed promise is made. Same-network AirPrint/Mopria are separate from compatible HP desktop-driver controls. Direct must be enabled and the device/application compatible.
Supplies and declared yields
Four 201A/201X black, cyan, yellow and magenta cartridge families require exact regional matching. The original package used introductory color supplies rather than a full replacement set. Declared yield is not remaining toner or current running cost.
Software and support
Original macOS instructions warn automatic duplex may not be available through AirPrint, so mobile and Direct plans do not borrow desktop duplex or envelope settings. General JetAdvantage cloud Private Print marketing is not proof of an included local PIN submission/release routine; historical cloud availability is not promised. Check current client/driver support.
Electrical edition and setup
Exact US B4A22A#BGJ is discontinued. Original dw closed body 15.4×16.4×9.3 inches agrees with US page; full open 15.4×39.4×11.2 inches is larger. Original with-cartridge 31.5 lb versus current US 27 lb is unresolved, so weight is unknown. Regional electrical editions are not dual voltage; inspect actual plate.
