Color LaserJet Pro MFP M180nw (T6B74A#BGJ)Illustrated overview
A useful fit for

A compatible light-use office needing color output and occasional originals placed individually on the glass.

The main tradeoff

Printed second sides need manual refeeding, and batches cannot use an automatic original feeder. Direct printing does not establish computer scanning over Direct.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can a USB desktop save a color flatbed scan when original size is left flexible?

Qualifies with earlier references enabled and compatible full HP scan software. The physical glass and computer delivery route are established; an exact document size remains unconfirmed here.

Can its feeder automatically handle a stack of originals?

Fails. The exact M180nw column explicitly lacks the document feeder provided by the M181fw.

Can Wi-Fi provide printing, computer scanning, copying and included fax together?

Fails. The exact M180nw does not include fax. Its wireless print/copy/scan functions do not add a telephone fax unit.

Color multifunction without an original-document feeder

The HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M180nw suits a compatible light-use office that prints in color and occasionally captures individual originals on the glass. It includes local USB, Ethernet, infrastructure Wi-Fi and true Wi-Fi Direct. The deciding limitation is its glass-only scanner: no automatic document feeder or fax is included.

HP marks the exact US T6B74A#BGJ reference discontinued. This assessment concerns its documented configuration, without claiming current stock, measured reliability or universal support for new computers. Check the actual unit, supplies, electrical plate and complete software route before assigning it regular work.

Read the exact nw column in the family table

The original manufacturer comparison separates M180n, M180nw and M181fw. Its M180nw column positively includes wireless and Direct printing, while explicitly excluding the 35-page feeder and fax. Family instructions describing those additions belong to an equipped configuration.

That distinction changes everyday handling. A pile of signed pages needs individual placement on the M180nw glass. Color capture and copying are available, but the operator still turns and positions originals. For frequent incoming batches, compare a model with the actual feeder and scanning method required.

The exact scan-size range remains unconfirmed here. The established glass route can satisfy a flexible-size requirement, while a particular original size needs further positive documentation. Legal print-paper support is not evidence of Legal glass.

Save the file through the actual computer software

The original Windows routine opens HP Scan through HP Printer Assistant; the Mac routine uses HP Easy Scan and saves the resulting pages. Use compatible full desktop software, choose appropriate settings and inspect the saved file rather than treating a working print queue as proof of complete capture support.

USB and suitable Ethernet or infrastructure Wi-Fi installations serve the desktop arrangement. The original Device Setup & Software routine changes between these connection types. Check both a representative print and a saved scan on the intended computer.

The original comparison explicitly excludes autonomous Scan to Email and Scan to Network Folder options. Computer software delivering a file is a different workflow from selecting an independent panel destination. Do not assume that a network socket creates a folder-scanning appliance.

Manual second sides and a single paper input

The included cassette holds 150 ordinary sheets at the stated paper weight. Letter, Legal and A4 appear in the original loading instructions. Legal stock extends the cassette approximately 2.2 inches beyond the front, so allow working room beyond the closed body.

Printed second sides require manual refeeding. The driver prints a first-side stack, after which the user returns it to the input and continues as instructed. For frequent unattended reports, compare automatic-duplex hardware instead of judging only the continuous print rate.

Envelope printing has its own one-sided loading and paper-type settings, with up to five recommended at a time. The ordinary-sheet count is not an envelope capacity. Match the stock and settings before a longer mailing run.

Mobile printing does not supply desktop capture controls

AirPrint and Mopria are positively listed for compatible shared-network printing. Keep the device and printer on the suitable network and verify discovery and output. Their print functions do not automatically provide the desktop application's scanning controls.

Wi-Fi Direct connects a supported device to the printer's signal without an ordinary router arrangement. Basic printing is confirmed, but exact paper, envelope, capacity and computer-scanning conditions are not borrowed from the desktop route. Check the intended device and how it reconnects afterward.

Keep workload and supplies in proportion

HP declares 17 Letter pages per minute in black or color, separately from 16 on A4. Its recommended monthly range is 150 to 1,500 pages; the 30,000-page duty maximum is different. These are manufacturer declarations, without a timing or endurance test for this review.

Replacement 204A supplies differ from the lower-yield introductory cartridges. Read the exact chip-security condition and match regional parts; no current running cost or remaining toner is calculated. Choose the M180nw for proven color output and individual glass capture. Repeated batches, automatic paper turning or fax call for different documented equipment.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

HP declares 17 Letter ppm in black or color under ISO/IEC 24734 excluding the first document set; A4 is 16 ppm. Recommended 150–1,500 monthly pages is distinct from maximum 30,000-page duty. Scanner rates are not print output or feeder evidence.

Paper handling

One 150-sheet input at 75 g/m². Actual guide loading list covers Letter/Legal/A4; Legal loading extends about 2.2 inches beyond the front. Printed second sides require manual refeeding. Up to five envelopes use their specified one-sided loading and driver routine. No extra blank-paper tray or original feeder is counted.

Scanning arrangement

Flatbed-only color capture, with its exact document-size range unestablished here. The positive computer-scanning route uses an empty size list, so only a flexible scan size can pass. No Legal glass is borrowed from print-paper support. Exact M180nw column explicitly lacks the 35-page feeder, fax and autonomous folder/email options. Compatible full HP Scan/TWAIN/WIA or Easy Scan software saves files to the computer.

Computer and mobile connections

USB 2.0, Ethernet and dual-band 2.4/5 GHz infrastructure Wi-Fi. Exact US table says Fast Ethernet 10/100 versus a generic Gigabit line in the original insert; no Gigabit promise. True Wi-Fi Direct basic printing is confirmed, while its exact paper, capacity, envelope and computer-scanning conditions remain unknown. USB cable is not included on the exact US page.

Supplies and declared yields

US 204A replacement CF510A black declares about 1,100 pages and CF511A/CF512A/CF513A composite CMY about 900 under ISO/IEC 19798 continuous printing. Introductory black is about 800 and composite CMY about 700, measurement basis unestablished here. Exact dynamic-security wording requires an HP original chip and warns non-HP chips may stop working. No current cost or remaining yield claimed.

Software and support

Original HP Printer Assistant provides Device Setup & Software for USB/network/USB-to-wireless configuration and opens computer HP Scan. AirPrint/Mopria shared-network printing is separate from desktop capture. A Direct connection PIN or EWS administrative password is not a job-release PIN. Check actual software and firmware compatibility; no retired cloud-service guarantee.

Electrical edition and setup

Exact US T6B74A#BGJ is discontinued and specifies a single 110–127 V AC 50/60 Hz edition. Body is 16.5×15×11.5 inches and 34.6 lb, cartridge basis unknown. Shipping weight 40.5 lb is excluded. Allow lid, tray, Legal extension and service access. M181fw hardware is not transferred.
