Color LaserJet Pro MFP M182nwIllustrated overview
A useful fit for

Modest 150–1,500-page monthly color work, manually handled originals and supported same-network mobile printing alongside a compatible desktop scan solution.

The main tradeoff

No feeder, fax or automatic print duplex. Legal printing does not make the glass Legal-sized, and computer scanning over Wi-Fi Direct remains unconfirmed.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can the earlier M182nw combine color Letter printing, color A4 flatbed files and AirPrint on a shared Wi-Fi setup with 150 ordinary sheets?

Qualifies with earlier references enabled, supported same-network Apple device and compatible installed desktop scan software. Originals are individually placed on the glass; AirPrint itself is not the scan app.

Explore this need in the finder →
Can it scan full 14-inch Legal originals to the USB computer simply because it prints Legal sheets?

Fails the Legal scan requirement. Printing Legal is positive, but the flatbed maximum is 215.9×297 mm and there is no feeder for longer originals.

Will its Ethernet driver automatically turn A4 sheets for two-sided printing?

Fails automatic duplex. This exact model has manual driver-supported refeed; a network connection does not add an automatic turning unit.

Color documents and individual originals, without automatic page turning

The HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M182nw combines color printing, standalone copying and a color flatbed scanner. Its useful role is a modest office routine with individual originals and shared wired or wireless devices. The deciding limitations are physical handling: the scanner has no automatic document feeder, and the printer's two-sided routine is manual.

The exact HP US product page identifies 7KW55A#BGJ and explicitly marks it discontinued. This assessment covers the documented US low-voltage configuration, 110–127 volts at 50/60 Hz. Other option-code editions use 220–240 volts; HP expressly says the supply is not dual voltage. Check the actual machine's label instead of treating the shared family name as an electrical guarantee.

HP declares up to 17 one-sided Letter pages per minute in black or color, separately 16 A4. Those are maker rates, not hands-on measurements or a manual-duplex throughput claim. The recommended print range is 150–1,500 pages monthly. Its separate 30,000-page maximum duty figure should not be substituted for that ongoing recommendation.

The built-in connections support different everyday arrangements

Included interfaces are USB 2.0, Fast Ethernet 10/100Base-TX and dual-band 2.4/5-GHz wireless networking. A compatible installed computer solution is needed for print and scan work. The original reference instructs users to select the actual connection type during installation and to wait for the installer before attaching USB.

For desktop capture, the original Windows route opens HP Scan; the original Mac instructions open HP Smart from Applications. Confirm current availability and operating-system support for the actual solution. A historical compatibility list does not mean every present computer has a complete scan driver simply because it can print.

AirPrint and Mopria are positively listed for the exact model. On a suitable shared Ethernet or Wi-Fi network, supported mobile devices can print while an appropriately installed desktop scan solution handles computer files. The printer does not need an Ethernet-connected phone; the mobile device needs access to the suitable shared network.

Genuine Wi-Fi Direct provides a separate peer printing option. The reference enables it in Network Setup, then directs the device to join the printer's displayed Direct signal. Computer scanning over that peer connection is not established here, so it does not borrow a scan route from the USB or ordinary network setup. Connection credentials and generic network security also do not establish document-job PIN release.

Legal printing is different from Legal scanning

The single included input holds 150 ordinary sheets, and the output bin holds 100. Letter, Legal and A4 printing are explicitly supported. There is one standard and maximum input tray in the exact table; no additional tray capacity is assumed. Choose the actual paper size and type in the driver.

The flatbed's maximum capture area is 215.9 by 297 mm, accommodating Letter and A4. It does not capture a complete 14-inch Legal original. The CIS scanner supports 24-bit color at up to 1,200 ppi optical resolution, independently of the printer's color output. Someone must position and replace each original on the glass; multipage software options do not create a feeder.

The exact specification says faxing is No. A generic feature sentence on the US store mentions fax, but the exact function set and technical record consistently say print, copy and scan. That broader sentence and the fax-only controls shown for other family variants are not evidence that this M182nw contains a fax.

Allow time for the second print pass

Manual duplex is explicitly driver-supported. After the first sides print, the operator must reload the stack in the instructed order and orientation. The reference guide identifies the manual-duplex prompt and says to press OK when ready to continue. Follow the actual driver's prompts; a two-sided software option is not an automatic turning mechanism.

Recommended ordinary uncoated and glossy media is 60–163 g/m². Higher limits apply to specified postcards and named HP matte or glossy stock, rather than every thick paper. For envelopes, the exact table recommends five or fewer at a time within its stack-height limit. Use the correct envelope size/type and a suitable manual loading routine instead of treating the 150-sheet capacity as an envelope allowance.

Regional cartridges, software services and installation space

The reviewed US replacements are 215A W2310A black, W2311A cyan, W2312A yellow and W2313A magenta. HP declares approximately 1,050 black pages and 850 composite color pages under ISO/IEC 19798 and continuous printing. Introductory cartridges are separately approximately 800 black and 700 composite color pages. Actual coverage affects yield; no current page cost or remaining toner is assumed.

HP documents dynamic security tied to new or reused HP chips and firmware that can block incompatible cartridge chips. Cloud, editable-file and sharing destinations also depend on the actual app and service arrangement. A PC-assisted FTP or cloud shortcut is not a native standalone sending system, and older cloud-printing references do not establish a functioning current service.

The exact closed body is approximately 16.5 by 15.0 by 11.5 inches and 34.6 pounds. Published maximum dimensions differ, and scanner-lid, paper and service access still need space. The M182nw is reasonable for manually handled originals and modest color output; a feeder-equipped, automatic-duplex model is the better direction when unattended document stacks are essential.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Maker 17 one-sided Letter ppm black/color, separately 16 A4; ISO/IEC 24734 excludes first test set, actual document/software affect output. No measured or two-sided rate. Recommended monthly printing 150–1,500 versus maximum duty 30,000.

Paper handling

One included and maximum 150-sheet input, 100-sheet output. Exact Letter/Legal/A4 support. Manual duplex only with actual supported driver and operator stack reload/OK continuation. Recommended uncoated/glossy 60–163 g/m²; heavier named postcards/HP matte/glossy allowances are type-specific. Envelopes supported, five or fewer recommended within 15-mm stack height, correct size/type and actual loading routine; no automatic envelope feeder.

Scanning arrangement

Flatbed-only CIS scanner, 215.9×297-mm maximum supports Letter/A4, not full Legal. Exact 24-bit color and up to 1,200 ppi optical; each original manually placed, no feeder or automatic duplex capture. Windows HP Scan or compatible TWAIN/WIA; original Mac HP Smart instructions. Generic US store sentence mentions fax but exact configuration/specification says no fax; other family fax controls are not M182nw hardware.

Computer and mobile connections

Included USB 2.0, 10/100 Ethernet and dual-band 2.4/5-GHz infrastructure Wi-Fi; genuine Wi-Fi Direct separately documented. USB/network computer files require compatible installed scan solution for that actual connection. Supported same-network AirPrint/Mopria printing retained in ordinary network plans; peer plan confirms printing only and does not borrow computer scanning. No direct-route mobile-protocol combination assumed.

Supplies and declared yields

US 215A W2310A black approximately 1,050 replacement pages; W2311A cyan/W2312A yellow/W2313A magenta approximately 850 composite color pages, ISO/IEC 19798 continuous printing.
