Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can a prepared Ethernet office print color Legal duplex, save one-sided Legal feeder originals and fax with a 250-sheet cassette at 1,500 monthly pages?
Qualifies with earlier references enabled, compatible full computer software and suitable telephone service. Confirm the actual electrical edition; the cassette and single priority sheet are distinct.
Explore this need in the finder →Does the available evidence confirm complete Legal capture on the glass over USB?
Fails this selected essential because exact glass size is unconfirmed. The documented Legal feeder range cannot be assigned to the glass.
Explore this need in the finder →Can Wi-Fi Direct supply computer scanning as part of the same peer connection?
Fails. The confirmed Direct routine is printing; it cannot borrow acquisition from a separate USB or infrastructure-network setup.

The HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M281cdw is a color print, copy, scan and fax model identified independently as T6B83A. HP's US reference explicitly marks this exact model discontinued. It should be assessed as its own earlier configuration, with its actual accessories and supplies checked rather than inferred from a similar fdw listing.
The useful combination is automatic two-sided output, infrastructure Wi-Fi and a 50-page document feeder for one-sided originals. The important tradeoff is that automatic print duplex does not provide automatic duplex scanning. For paperwork arriving on both sides, the capture routine still needs user handling or a different scanner.
HP recommends 150–2,500 printed pages monthly and declares up to 22 Letter pages per minute in color or black, separately 21 ppm on A4. Maximum duty of 40,000 pages is a separate ceiling. None of these declared figures is an editorial measurement of a complete office job.
Choose the acquisition routine before choosing a connection
The exact cdw scanner reference confirms a flatbed, a 50-sheet feeder and an 8.5-by-14-inch feeder maximum. It explicitly says no duplex ADF scanning. Letter, Legal and A4 originals can use the confirmed one-sided feeder route, while an exact glass size has not been established in the sources used here.
For compatible full computer software, HP Scan can save an image or send it to an application. The shared original guide expressly includes the cdw configuration, and its Mac HP Easy Scan procedure accepts either glass or feeder originals before saving a file. Verify a complete scan installation for the intended USB or network computer; the historical software lists distinguish full solutions from driver-only installations.
The front host USB socket can instead save a scan to a flash drive. That is separate from connecting the rear computer USB socket. A flash-drive workflow can be useful without proving that a mobile print connection also supports computer scanning.
Prepared folder and email profiles have narrower documented jobs
The original Scan to Network Folder procedure requires a shared destination, the correct path, access permissions and credentials. Configure it through the wizard or Embedded Web Server, then run Save and Test. The actual panel job describes loading the glass, so its confirmed route remains separate from feeder acquisition through computer software.
Email delivery requires SMTP server and port information plus any authentication required by the service. The corresponding panel job also explicitly starts on the glass. Files arrive as attachments; it is not an unconfigured USB pull-scan routine. PINs protecting scan profiles do not establish a held-print PIN feature.
Paper input combines a cassette with one priority sheet
The exact original cdw column confirms a 250-sheet cassette and a single-sheet priority slot. The normal paper reserve is 250 sheets; the separate attended priority path does not add another unattended supply position. The cassette's rating is based on 75-g/m², 20-lb paper.
The size table positively marks Letter, Legal and A4 in both inputs and for automatic print duplex. Legal requires extending the main tray approximately 2.2 inches forward. Match the driver settings to the actual paper, adjust guides lightly and keep the stack below its limit.
Envelopes use distinct capacities: one in the priority slot or up to five in the cassette. Load the short postage end first and select the proper size and Envelope type. Special-media handling does not inherit the ordinary-sheet total or automatic-duplex permission.
True Wi-Fi Direct is a printing route
The original fourth model column independently confirms computer USB, Ethernet, wireless networking and genuine Wi-Fi Direct for the cdw. A compatible Mopria device or supported Windows print driver can use the documented peer-print procedure after the connection method and printer identity are set.
Shared-network AirPrint and Mopria are other supported routes with applicable firmware. Their mobile controls should not inherit the desktop driver's exact paper capacity, scanning or duplex settings. In particular, the original guide warns that AirPrint may lack desktop automatic-duplex controls.
Check regional supplies and the installation itself
The original guide assigns North America to 202A/202X cartridges and separates 203A/203X regions. Inspect the actual replacement and declaration rather than borrowing a neighboring generation's toner. Historical bundle contents do not establish supplies remaining in an offered unit.
The cdw body is approximately 16.5 by 16.6 by 13.2 inches and 41.2 pounds with cartridges, with much more room needed fully open. Its sources list separate electrical editions without establishing the actual offered unit's option suffix, so US mains compatibility remains unconfirmed here. Verify that plate and suitable telephone service for analog fax. Choose this earlier configuration when compatible color output and one-sided capture meet the routine.

Paper, software and setup details
Print-rate conditions
Exact cdw primary reference gives 22 black/color Letter ppm and original cdw column separately 21 A4 ppm. Recommended monthly print volume 150–2,500 versus 40,000 maximum duty. Copy or scan rates do not replace print speed.
Paper handling
The exact original cdw column includes a 250-sheet cassette plus a separate single-sheet priority slot. Normal minimum-capacity matching uses the 250-sheet reserve and excludes the attended priority sheet. The cassette basis is 75 g/m², 20 lb. Letter/Legal/A4 are positively marked in both inputs and the automatic duplex column. The Legal cassette extends approximately 2.2 inches; the correct size/type and stack limit apply. Envelopes use one in the slot or five in the cassette, face up with short postage end first, separately from ordinary capacity and duplex.
Scanning arrangement
Exact cdw reference confirms 50-page simplex-only feeder, no automatic duplex scanning, max 8.5 × 14 inches. Letter/Legal/A4 one-sided color capture confirmed; optical ADF up to 300 dpi versus glass up to 1,200. Exact glass sizes unconfirmed despite positive flatbed hardware; empty route only supports flexible size. Computer files accept glass or feeder; actual panel folder/email instructions explicitly use glass and do not borrow ADF. Front flash-drive scan is another routine.
Computer and mobile connections
Fourth original model column explicitly includes computer USB, Ethernet, wireless and true Wi-Fi Direct, independently of fdw. Exact cdw article specifies dual-band infrastructure Wi-Fi and Fast Ethernet while original technical guide lists 10/100/1000; no rate promise. Shared-network AirPrint/Mopria and true peer Mopria/Windows printing are separate plans without scanner, media-capacity or finishing borrowing.
Supplies and declared yields
Original shared guide explicitly covers cdw and specifies North American 202A/202X CF500A/X black, CF501A/X cyan, CF502A/X yellow and CF503A/X magenta; 203A/X belongs to separate regions. Exact cdw historical box lists introductory black around 1,400 and composite color around 700 plus phone cable/media pack, which does not describe present offer completeness. No borrowed fdw replacement yield or unverified chip/account policy, remaining toner or cost per page.
Software and support
Full compatible HP Scan/HP Easy Scan files through intended USB/network installation; driver-only historical arrangements do not establish capture. Shared folder requires path, permissions, credentials and tested profile; email requires configured SMTP server, port and applicable authentication. Actual panel jobs establish glass only. Profile PIN and management password do not establish held-print PIN. No JetAdvantage or old cloud-service availability assumed.
Electrical edition and setup
Exact US discontinued T6B83A identity independently confirmed; no #BGJ suffix invented. Exact sources list separate 110–127-V and 220–240-V regional editions but actual offered edition remains unknown, so US mains null. Explicit cdw/fdn/fdw original body panel gives 16.5 × 16.6 × 13.2 inches and 41.2 lb with cartridges, fully open 17.8 × 39.7 × 23.2. Allow tray, scanner and service access. Fax separately needs suitable analog telephone service.
