Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can a USB computer scan single-sided color Legal documents and copy, while printing A4 automatically on both sides with 250 sheets ready?
Qualifies with earlier references enabled, the exact US low-voltage configuration, suitable originals/stock and compatible full computer software. Legal capture uses the simplex ADF; A4 output has its independently documented automatic print-duplex route.
Explore this need in the finder →Can I put a Legal original on the glass and scan its entire page?
Fails the selected flatbed-size requirement. The exact fdw glass is only about 8.5×11.7 inches. Legal originals can use the separately documented single-sided feeder, but that does not enlarge the flatbed.
Explore this need in the finder →Is AirPrint plus automatic duplex established in the same mobile workflow?
Fails this combined requirement in the reviewed evidence. Same-subnet AirPrint printing is real, while the original Mac instructions explicitly warn that its driver duplex feature may be unavailable through AirPrint. No desktop-driver duplex feature is borrowed into the mobile plan.

The HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw is an earlier color laser multifunction printer for an office that needs duplex output, computer scanning, copying and a conventional fax line. Its 50-sheet feeder helps with single-sided batches. Its flatbed is useful for an original that should lie on glass rather than travel through a feeder.
The feeder is also the main buying boundary. HP expressly specifies no duplex ADF scanning. A double-sided original therefore needs manual handling; the automatic duplex printer cannot make the scanner capture its reverse. For unattended two-sided document capture, look for a model that explicitly supports that input method.
The exact US store page identifies 7KW75A#BGJ and marks it discontinued. This review covers the documented 110–127-V, 50/60-Hz edition and requires earlier-reference opt-in in the finder. Other option codes can identify 220–240-V hardware. HP says this is not a dual-voltage product, so check the plate and avoid assuming that a US plug makes another regional edition suitable.
Prepare the main tray for the actual page size
The ordinary input reserve is 250 sheets in Tray 2 at the manual's 75-g/m² paper basis. Letter, Legal and A4 fit that tray. The single-sheet priority slot remains a manual convenience, not a second stack that increases the normal reserve. The output bin holds a separate 100 sheets.
For Legal stock, press the blue latch and extend the front of the main tray. It projects about 57.5 mm, or 2.2 inches, beyond its ordinary position. Clear that space before deciding where the printer will live. When reloading, remove the old stock, straighten the stack, avoid fanning and adjust the guides without pinching the edges.
Choose the real paper size, type and source in the compatible driver. The original technical guide confirms automatic duplex for Letter, Legal and A4. Windows exposes Print on both sides under Finishing; the original Mac driver uses Layout and a Two-Sided binding setting. Verify the exact software and installed-printer configuration on the intended computer.
Portrait letterhead in Tray 2 faces up with its top at the back for one-sided work, or faces down with its top still at the back for duplex. The priority slot uses top-edge-first forms, face up for one-sided output and face down for duplex. These details matter more than a general instruction to turn the paper over.
For occasional envelopes, use one in the priority slot or up to five in Tray 2. Both use face-up loading with the short postage end first. Set the actual envelope size, Envelope type and appropriate feed source. Envelope handling does not establish automatic envelope duplex.
Legal scanning belongs in the feeder
The exact fdw brochure gives an 8.5-by-14-inch ADF maximum and an 8.5-by-11.7-inch flatbed maximum. Letter and A4 can use either suitable route, but Legal originals require the feeder. Its ordinary originals should meet the maker's 16–24-lb, or 60–90-g/m², limits. Avoid treating a legal-size paper output tray as evidence for a legal-size glass.
On a compatible Windows computer, HP's documented file-capture routine opens HP Printer Assistant, then Scan and Scan a Document or Photo. Review the settings and save the resulting scan. The original Mac instructions use HP Smart, with originals on the glass or feeder and a save-file step. Current package availability, supported system and applicable account terms still need checking.
The Copy menu can make two-sided output from separate original faces. The manual's automatic-copy diagram shows two original sheets becoming one two-sided output sheet. Its manual glass procedure asks for each next original and finishes with Done. Neither sequence contradicts the explicit absence of automatic duplex ADF scanning.
Match the connection to the real software workflow
The included rear computer USB port, Ethernet interface and dual-band 2.4/5-GHz Wi-Fi offer three normal computer arrangements. The front host port serves flash-drive tasks and is not the rear computer socket. The documented computer scan-and-print plans assume compatible full software installed for the chosen connection.
AirPrint requires the Apple device and printer on the same subnet. Mopria is also supported, while Wi-Fi Direct lets a compatible mobile device join the printer signal without joining an office router. An Android Mopria plugin is specifically described for that Direct routine. Some devices need to reconnect afterward to regain normal network access.
Mobile printing is kept separate from computer-driver duplex and scanning promises. The original Mac guide warns that its duplex setting may be unavailable through AirPrint. A supported mobile protocol therefore does not, by itself, qualify a combined mobile-plus-duplex request.
Network folder delivery needs a configured reachable share. Scan-to-email needs actual SMTP setup and authentication. Fax is a separate analog service: connect its line-in port correctly and configure answer mode, time, date and header. Shared lines and answering machines need their documented arrangement, and a digital telephone service needs appropriate provider settings.
Check toner identity, condition and access space
The recommended monthly workload is 150–2,500 pages, separately from the 40,000-page maximum duty. Maker one-sided Letter speed is up to 22 ppm in black or color; the separate A4 declaration is 21 ppm. These are source ratings, not measured test results or automatic-duplex image rates.
The US replacement family is HP 206A/206X: W2110A/X black, W2111A/X cyan, W2112A/X yellow and W2113A/X magenta. Declared ISO/IEC 19798 averages are 1,350/3,150 black pages and 1,250/2,450 composite color pages. Box text says about 800 introductory black pages while a footnote says 1,350, so inspect the actual included cartridge and packaging. Do not confuse replacement yield with the remaining toner.
The exact US page describes dynamic security that can block cartridges with non-HP chips through firmware updates, while allowing reused HP chips. That is a supply compatibility condition, not proof of HP+ lifetime enrollment. Included local held-job PIN printing was not established; an optional secure-print service or a connection password is not enough.
The closed body measures about 16.5 by 16.6 by 13.2 inches and weighs 41.2 lb with cartridges. For full opening, the manual allows about 17.8 inches wide, 39.7 deep and 23.2 high. Keep that working envelope available for the scanner, trays, doors and cables, and inspect the condition of an earlier machine.

Paper, software and setup details
Print-rate conditions
Exact US fdw page and original US brochure declare up to 22 one-sided Letter ppm in black or color; original technical guide separately confirms 21 A4 ppm for the fdw column. Recommended 150–2,500 monthly pages is distinct from maximum 40,000 duty. The separate cdw brochure maximum is not borrowed. No measured test, scan-speed-to-print-speed conversion or duplex image rate claimed.
Paper handling
Included main Tray 2 holds 250 ordinary sheets at 75 g/m². Exact technical guide marks Letter/Legal/A4 in Tray 2 and its automatic duplexer; each selected size has 250 normal included sheets. Single-sheet priority feed is not added; output 100 is separate. Legal main-tray extension projects 57.5 mm/2.2 inches. Remove old stock, straighten, do not fan and lightly touch guides without bending. Tray 2 portrait forms face up/top back for simplex or face down/top back for duplex. Priority forms load top first, face up simplex or face down duplex. Actual compatible driver, stock type/size and binding required. Envelopes use one in Tray 1 or up to five in Tray 2, face up with short postage end first, with actual envelope settings; no envelope duplex.
Scanning arrangement
Exact fdw US original brochure gives Letter/A4 flatbed maximum 8.5×11.7 inches and single-sided ADF maximum 8.5×14 inches for Letter/Legal/A4 originals. Exact US maker scanner body explicitly says no duplex ADF scanning and standard 50 sheets, with 16–24-lb/60–90-g/m² feeder stock. Automatic two-sided printing/copy output does not establish automatic two-sided input. User guide copy diagram shows two one-sided originals becoming a duplex output; glass workflow prompts for each next original. Windows HP Scan saves actual computer files; original Mac HP Smart workflow also saves scans. Compatible full software is required for the selected USB or network computer setup. Mobile print plans do not borrow those scan routes.
Computer and mobile connections
Exact fdw 7KW75A includes rear computer USB 2.0, Ethernet and dual-band 2.4/5-GHz Wi-Fi; front host flash-drive port is separate. Compatible full computer software is needed for actual print/scan setup. AirPrint requires the same network subnet; Mopria and Wi-Fi Direct are explicitly supported. Original Direct routine includes Android Mopria plugin after joining the printer signal, with possible reconnection to the normal network afterward. No automatic duplex, selected-size capacity or desktop scan is borrowed into a mobile route. Original Mac guide warns driver duplex may be unavailable through AirPrint.
Supplies and declared yields
Exact US fdw uses 206A/206X W2110A/X black, W2111A/X cyan, W2112A/X yellow and W2113A/X magenta. Replacement averages under ISO/IEC 19798 and continuous printing are 1,350/3,150 black and 1,250/2,450 composite color pages. Exact US box text around 800 black conflicts with introductory footnote around 1,350; no settled starter-black figure or installed remainder is claimed. Introductory composite color around 700 is separate from replacement yield. Current exact US page says dynamic security can block non-HP chips and firmware can block previously working cartridges, while reused HP chips can enable reused/refilled supplies. No HP+ lifetime or price/quality guarantee borrowed.
Software and support
Actual Windows Finishing and original Mac Layout/Two-Sided establish compatible-driver automatic duplex, not universal AirPrint control. Windows HP Printer Assistant/HP Scan and original Mac HP Smart save-file routines require current compatible packages and applicable account terms. Do not promise every historical cloud service remains available. Original JetAdvantage Secure Print is optional and does not establish included local job PIN release. Wi-Fi Direct/WPS/SMTP-profile passwords are distinct from held-print PINs. Network folder requires configured reachable share; email requires actual SMTP configuration and authentication.
Electrical edition and setup
Exact US 7KW75A#BGJ store page explicitly marks discontinued, so earlier-reference opt-in is required. Actual documented US edition is 110–127 V at 50/60 Hz, separate from 220–240-V editions; not dual voltage. Inspect actual option code and plate. Closed cdw/fdn/fdw body is 16.5×16.6×13.2 inches, 41.2 lb with cartridges. Original fully open envelope is 17.8×39.7×23.2 inches; brochure smaller maximum is not full service clearance. Fax is separately configured analog telephone hardware with line lead, answer settings and date/time/header; Ethernet does not supply fax service and VoIP operation is not universal. Exact fdw observed HP image URL is handed to root for independent pixel inspection, not claimed personally seen.
