Color LaserJet Pro MFP M477fdwIllustrated overview
A useful fit for

Office color documents and single-pass scan packets through a compatible USB or ordinary-network computer setup with the needed fax or configured delivery services.

The main tradeoff

Mobile duplex and direct scanning remain unconfirmed. Legal originals need the feeder, PIN release needs extra USB storage and fax requires a separate suitable telephone connection.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can the earlier M477fdw combine Wi-Fi color printing, automatic Legal duplex, single-pass color Legal scanning and analog fax with 300 included sheets?

Qualifies with an actual compatible ordinary-network HP print/scan installation, a separate suitable configured analog fax line and earlier references enabled. Its 50-sheet scanner feeder is not included in the 300-print-sheet total.

A wireless color office setup with two distinct automatic duplex functions

The HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M477fdw can handle color printing, document capture, copying and analog fax in an office with the right software and services. It includes both automatic print duplex and a single-pass, two-sided scanner feeder. Its wireless connections offer placement flexibility, but the intended job route still determines which features can be used together.

The exact US product is CF379A#BGJ, explicitly marked discontinued by HP. The reviewed electrical configuration requires 110–127 volts at 60Hz. Check the actual rating and included accessories of an older machine; another regional edition or neighboring suffix is not automatically the same package.

Declared one-sided output is up to 28 Letter pages per minute in black or color, separately 27 A4 in the original guide. Recommended monthly printing is 750–4,000 pages, whereas 50,000 is the maximum duty rating. Scan images per minute and two-sided print images per minute are separate figures. This review does not invent measured throughput or print-quality findings.

Count the print trays separately from the scanner feeder

The included print input is a 50-sheet multipurpose feed and 250-sheet main cassette. Letter, Legal and A4 are positively supported in both feeds and in the installed automatic duplexer. With ordinary paper of the selected supported size actually loaded, the arrangement provides 300 print sheets. The 50-sheet document feeder belongs to scanning and does not make that total 350.

An optional 550-sheet third tray increases capacity to the advertised 850. It is excluded from the included configuration and also changes the footprint and weight. Legal paper extends the main tray approximately two inches, which matters when checking the working depth.

For desktop automatic duplex, use a compatible HP driver, match the real paper size, type and source, then choose the binding edge. Ordinary duplex media is documented at 60–163 g/m². Named approvals for certain heavier postcards or glossy stock do not make every such sheet suitable for the automatic path.

Envelopes use a separate routine. Select the actual envelope size, Envelope type and chosen feed in the driver; load them face up with the short postage end first. The original instructions limit tray 1 to a 5mm stack, approximately four to six envelopes, or permit ten in tray 2. Those actual feed instructions control over a generic capacity headline. Automatic two-sided envelope printing is not promised.

The Legal feeder and flatbed have different size limits

The exact fdw original datasheet identifies single-pass two-sided ADF scanning. Its 50-sheet feeder accommodates originals from 4 by 6 inches to 8.5 by 14, supporting Letter, Legal and A4 for one-sided or single-pass duplex capture. Color scanning is supported independently of whether the next print job uses color.

The same exact datasheet separately gives the flatbed maximum as 8.5 by 11.7 inches. That supports Letter and A4 originals on the glass, but a Legal original needs the feeder. A Legal print setting or feeder maximum does not enlarge the flatbed.

Compatible HP Scan software can initiate capture and save the result to a computer. The normal computer arrangements use USB, Gigabit Ethernet or ordinary Wi-Fi with the corresponding installed software. A basic print queue alone is not proof that scanning works; verify the intended application, driver and permissions.

Mobile printing and network delivery have their own conditions

The fdw includes ordinary 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, genuine Wi-Fi Direct and compatible NFC printing, alongside USB and Ethernet. Its 4.3-inch touchscreen also supports front USB file routines. NFC needs a compatible NFC-printing mobile device; the presence of a phone does not guarantee that capability.

AirPrint and Mopria are documented for supported devices on the same suitable network subnet. The original guide also supports compatible Apple AirPrint and Android embedded-print devices over Wi-Fi Direct without the office network. Direct printing is kept separate from confirmed network scanning; this review does not infer a direct computer-scan route merely from a print feature.

The original Mac section warns that the HP driver's automatic duplex option might not be available through AirPrint. Mobile plans therefore leave automatic print duplex unconfirmed, even though the desktop driver's duplex routine is positive.

Panel Scan to Email requires working SMTP settings, including server, port and authentication. Scan to Network Folder requires a reachable shared destination and access credentials. A network mobile-print setup can coexist with those properly configured scan destinations, but old cloud-service names do not guarantee present service operation.

Fax uses separate suitable telephone service. HP describes an analog fax device and recommends a dedicated analog line. Set the required identification and answer options and run the fax test; USB, Wi-Fi or Ethernet does not substitute for that line.

Allow for optional storage, supplies and access

Local PIN-held jobs need a separately provided dedicated rear USB 2.0 drive with at least 16GB free, setup and a compatible driver. The original UPD minimum is 5.9.0. The standard box therefore fails an included-PIN requirement, despite supporting the optional routine. A scan-profile PIN is different from print release.

US 410A replacements are approximately 2,300 pages each; 410X alternatives are approximately 6,500 black or 5,000 per color under HP's ISO/IEC 19798 declarations. Supplied nominal black is 2,300 pages and introductory colors 1,200 each. Actual content and remaining toner vary, and no current page cost is calculated.

The closed body is approximately 16.4 inches wide, 18.6 deep and 15.7 high, weighing about 51.2lb with cartridges. Leave substantially more room for open trays, the scanner and cartridge service. The fdw suits combined office tasks when the actual connection, original size and required network or telephone services fit the job.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Maker one-sided black/color Letter maximum 28 ppm, separately 27 A4 in original exact model comparison. Recommended monthly print range 750–4,000 pages differs from 50,000 maximum duty. Scan images/minute, copy rate and print duplex images/minute remain separate; no measured speed or quality test.

Paper handling

Included 50-sheet multipurpose tray 1 plus 250-sheet tray 2, total 300 ordinary print sheets. The 50-sheet document feeder belongs to scanning, not print capacity. Letter/Legal/A4 positively supported in both feeds; optional 550-sheet third tray excluded. Legal extends the main tray approximately 51 mm (two inches). Original envelope routine: tray-1 stack up to 5 mm (about four to six) or ten in tray 2, face up with short postage end leading, actual driver size, Envelope type and chosen feed. Generic US 15-envelope headline does not replace these instructed path limits.

Scanning arrangement

Exact fdw original HP datasheet independently specifies single-pass two-sided ADF and 50 sheets, original size 4×6–8.5×14 inches, supporting Letter/Legal/A4. Exact flatbed maximum 8.5×11.7 inches supports Letter/A4, not Legal. Color scanning documented independently; compatible HP computer software or configured network delivery still required.

Computer and mobile connections

Exact US M477fdw includes USB 2.0/Gigabit Ethernet/ordinary 2.4-GHz Wi-Fi, genuine Wi-Fi Direct and compatible NFC printing. Actual compatible HP Scan supports USB or ordinary-network computer capture. SMTP/shared-folder delivery needs configured working services. Same-subnet AirPrint/Mopria and supported direct AirPrint are separate from desktop duplex; direct scanning and mobile duplex unconfirmed.

Supplies and declared yields

US 410A CF410A black/CF411A cyan/CF412A yellow/CF413A magenta replacements about 2,300 pages each; 410X CF410X black about 6,500 and CF411X/CF412X/CF413X color about 5,000 each. Exact maker declarations ISO/IEC 19798 continuous printing. Box nominal black 2,300 and introductory colors 1,200 each are separate. Actual content changes yield and installed remaining toner is unknown; no current price per page.

Software and support

Actual compatible HP Scan installation supports computer scanning; a basic print queue is insufficient. Ordinary network SMTP email or credentialed shared-folder delivery requires configured working service and destination. Fax uses a separate suitable analog telephone line and setup, not the network port; no generic VoIP guarantee. Included PIN release is false: original job storage requires separately provided dedicated rear USB 2.0 storage with at least 16 GB free, formatting/setup and compatible driver; original UPD minimum 5.9.0. A scan-profile PIN or network administrator password is different. Historical cloud services are not promised.

Electrical edition and setup

Exact US CF379A#BGJ discontinued identity, 110–127-V 60-Hz configuration. Original fdw closed 415.4×472.3×399.8 mm and 23.2 kg with cartridges agrees with US 16.4×18.6×15.7 inches and 51.2 lb. Original fully open depth 44.27 inches and height 25.83 differ from current compact maximum-access fields; verify actual working space. Optional tray excluded from body and capacity.
