Color LaserJet Pro MFP M477fnwIllustrated overview
A useful fit for

Mixed color-document work through compatible USB or ordinary network software when single-pass scanning matters and manual print duplex is acceptable.

The main tradeoff

No automatic print duplex or confirmed questionnaire Wi-Fi Direct route. Glass size remains unconfirmed, PIN printing requires extra USB storage and fax needs separate suitable telephone service.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can the earlier M477fnw combine USB color documents, single-pass color Legal scanning and fax while print duplex is flexible?

Qualifies with compatible HP print/scan software, a separate suitable configured analog fax line and earlier references enabled. Its positive single-pass scanner is independent of its manual print duplex.

Explore this need in the finder →
Does the fnw automatically print A4 documents on both sides?

Fails automatic print duplex. Original exact fnw column says unavailable, and the exact US technical field specifies manual driver support despite generic promotional text.

Explore this need in the finder →
Does the documented Wireless Direct phrase establish the questionnaire’s Wi-Fi Direct connection?

Fails this selected connection. The exact original fnw column excludes the combined NFC/Wi-Fi Direct feature; its older Wireless Direct description is not relabeled as that confirmed protocol.

A wireless color MFP with different print and scan duplex capabilities

The HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M477fnw can suit an office that needs color pages, computer scanning, copying and analog fax, while accepting manual two-sided printing. Its important distinction is that manual print duplex does not prevent the exact model's documented single-pass, two-sided feeder scanning. Those are separate mechanisms and should be evaluated separately.

HP identifies the US product as CF377A#BGJ and explicitly marks it discontinued. This assessment covers its documented 110–127-volt, 60-Hz configuration. Check the actual regional rating of an older or imported unit rather than assuming that every M477 with a similar name has the same power supply or included hardware.

Maker-rated one-sided speed is up to 28 Letter pages per minute in black or color, separately 27 A4 in the original comparison. The recommended monthly print range is 750–4,000 pages. The separate 50,000-page maximum duty rating is not an everyday monthly target, and scan images per minute are not print pages per minute. No speed or quality testing is claimed here.

Print 300 ordinary sheets, with manual handling for side two

Included print input is a 50-sheet multipurpose feed and 250-sheet cassette. Both positively support ordinary Letter, Legal and A4. The 50-sheet scanner feeder does not increase that 300-sheet print total. HP's optional 550-sheet third tray is excluded from the standard arrangement.

The exact original fnw column says automatic duplex printing is unavailable, and the exact US technical field says manual driver support. Generic promotional language about fast two-sided printing and an automatic-duplex media list do not add the missing turning mechanism. Use the appropriate manual driver procedure and reload the printed stack as instructed for the actual operating system.

Match paper size, type and source in the driver. Legal paper extends the cassette approximately two inches. Envelopes use their own instructed routine: select the actual envelope size and Envelope type, then use the intended feed, face up with the short postage end leading. The original limits are a tray-1 stack no thicker than 5mm, about four to six envelopes, or ten in tray 2. This does not promise automatic envelope duplex.

The feeder handles two-sided originals in one pass

The exact US feature section positively describes single-pass two-sided scanning, and the exact model's scanner specification independently confirms duplex ADF scanning. Its 50-sheet feeder accommodates the documented 4-by-6 to 8.5-by-14-inch original range, including Letter, Legal and A4. This is a useful route for capturing a two-sided packet even though printing two-sided output requires manual handling.

Color capture is supported independently of whether the next output job is black or color. A flatbed provides a separate route for individual originals. Its hardware is confirmed, but the exact glass-size limit has not been established in the material used for this fnw record. The Legal feeder maximum is consequently not treated as Legal glass support.

A compatible HP Scan installation can initiate scanning and save files to a computer. USB supplies the direct computer arrangement; Ethernet or ordinary Wi-Fi supports the installed network arrangement. Verify the actual scanner software and permissions on the intended system. Installing a basic print queue alone does not demonstrate a working scan path.

Network services and fax need their own destinations

The fnw includes USB 2.0, Gigabit Ethernet and ordinary 2.4GHz Wi-Fi. AirPrint and Mopria are documented network-print options; use a supported device on the same suitable subnet. The machine also has a front USB file-printing routine and a 4.3-inch touchscreen.

Its US page describes Wireless Direct printing, while the original exact-model table excludes the combined NFC/Wi-Fi Direct feature supplied on the fdw. This assessment retains that older direct-print description separately and does not label it as the questionnaire's confirmed Wi-Fi Direct connection. NFC is not included.

Front-panel Scan to Email needs a configured working SMTP server, port and authentication. Scan to Network Folder needs a reachable shared destination and correct access. These ordinary network delivery routes can put scanned files within computer access, but they are not USB scanning or a guarantee that an old cloud service remains available.

Fax requires suitable separate telephone service. HP's original instructions describe an analog device and recommend a dedicated analog line, with appropriate fax identification, answer settings and testing. The Ethernet port does not replace the telephone connection, and generic VoIP compatibility is not promised.

Check storage, toner and operating room

Local PIN-held printing is optional after adding storage. The original guide requires a dedicated rear USB 2.0 flash drive with at least 16GB free, setup and a compatible driver; the original UPD minimum is 5.9.0. The normal package does not include that drive, so included PIN release fails. A scan-profile PIN or administrator password is different.

US 410A replacements are approximately 2,300 pages each. The 410X alternatives are approximately 6,500 black or 5,000 per color under HP's ISO/IEC 19798 declarations. Supplied black is nominally 2,300 pages and introductory colors 1,200 each. These are not remaining-toner or current page-cost estimates.

The closed body is approximately 16.4 inches wide, 18.1 deep and 15.7 high, weighing about 48.1lb with cartridges. Allow considerably more room for open trays, the scanner and cartridge access. The fnw fits mixed color-document tasks when manual print duplex is acceptable; an automatic print requirement needs a different documented suffix.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Maker one-sided black/color Letter maximum 28 ppm, separately 27 A4 in original exact model comparison. Recommended monthly print range 750–4,000 pages differs from 50,000 maximum duty. Scan images/minute, copy rate and print duplex images/minute remain separate; no measured speed or quality test.

Paper handling

Included 50-sheet multipurpose tray 1 plus 250-sheet tray 2, total 300 ordinary print sheets. The 50-sheet document feeder belongs to scanning, not print capacity. Letter/Legal/A4 positively supported in both feeds; optional 550-sheet third tray excluded. Legal extends the main tray approximately 51 mm (two inches). Original envelope routine: tray-1 stack up to 5 mm (about four to six) or ten in tray 2, face up with short postage end leading, actual driver size, Envelope type and chosen feed. Generic US 15-envelope headline does not replace these instructed path limits.

Scanning arrangement

Exact US one-pass two-sided scan feature plus exact model duplex ADF and 50-sheet feeder establish automatic single-pass scanning. ADF 4×6–8.5×14-inch range positively supports Letter/Legal/A4. Color scanning documented separately from color output. Flatbed hardware is positive; its exact size needs a separate source and is not inferred from the Legal feeder maximum.

Computer and mobile connections

Exact US M477fnw includes USB 2.0/Gigabit Ethernet/ordinary 2.4-GHz Wi-Fi and network AirPrint/Mopria. Actual compatible HP Scan supports USB or ordinary-network computer capture; configured SMTP/shared-folder network delivery requires working destinations. Original fnw column excludes NFC/Wi-Fi Direct combined feature; US legacy Wireless Direct description is retained separately without a wifi_direct tag.

Supplies and declared yields

US 410A CF410A black/CF411A cyan/CF412A yellow/CF413A magenta replacements about 2,300 pages each; 410X CF410X black about 6,500 and CF411X/CF412X/CF413X color about 5,000 each. Exact maker declarations ISO/IEC 19798 continuous printing. Box nominal black 2,300 and introductory colors 1,200 each are separate. Actual content changes yield and installed remaining toner is unknown; no current price per page.

Software and support

Actual compatible HP Scan installation supports computer scanning; a basic print queue is insufficient. Ordinary network SMTP email or credentialed shared-folder delivery requires configured working service and destination. Fax uses a separate suitable analog telephone line and setup, not the network port; no generic VoIP guarantee. Included PIN release is false: original job storage requires separately provided dedicated rear USB 2.0 storage with at least 16 GB free, formatting/setup and compatible driver; original UPD minimum 5.9.0. A scan-profile PIN or network administrator password is different. Historical cloud services are not promised.

Electrical edition and setup

Exact US CF377A#BGJ discontinued identity, 110–127-V 60-Hz edition. Original fnw body 415.4×461×399.8 mm and 21.8 kg with cartridges agrees with US rounded 16.4×18.1×15.7 inches and 48.1 lb. Full open depth 40.35 inches and height 25.83 differ from current smaller maximum figures; verify operating/service access. Optional tray changes body size.
