LaserJet 1000 (Q1342A#ABA)Illustrated overview
A useful fit for

An already prepared compatible legacy Windows workstation with the correct USB pod and supported original-era driver.

The main tradeoff

HP provides no Windows 7/8/8.1/10 driver support. Confirm the dedicated pod and legacy host; automatic duplex, mobile protocols and recommended monthly range remain unconfirmed.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can a prepared compatible legacy Windows computer print Legal monochrome pages through the correct USB pod with 250 ordinary sheets?

Qualifies with earlier references enabled and the exact supported legacy software/pod arrangement. This is not a Windows 7/8/8.1/10 driver promise; the sole tray supports the documented ordinary range.

Does this assessment establish automatic two-sided printing?

Fails the selected requirement because a supported automatic-duplex arrangement remains unconfirmed. No later-family duplex workflow is borrowed.

A legacy USB arrangement with a special cable pod

The HP LaserJet 1000 is an earlier monochrome print-only reference for an already prepared compatible legacy Windows computer. Its 250-sheet main tray can support ordinary document work. The deciding limitation is the connection arrangement: the original USB cable includes a dedicated pod, and current HP support explicitly excludes the printer from Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and 10 driver support.

HP's exact US product record identifies Q1342A#ABA and explicitly marks it discontinued. This review covers that historical US configuration without a stock promise. The original guide separately documents 110–127-volt, 50/60-Hz and 220–240-volt regional versions and warns against connecting a low-voltage unit to the higher-voltage supply.

Confirm the pod and software before treating it as usable

The full original user guide lists a USB cable with pod in the package and instructs the user to plug the pod into the printer, with the USB end connected to the PC. The rear walkaround identifies a port for that pod. This is not a promise that an ordinary replacement printer cable will supply the required arrangement.

HP's exact parts record independently identifies a cable-pod assembly. Confirm the actual correct assembly and compatible legacy computer software before relying on an individual earlier unit. The original installation routine loads the printer software first, then connects the hardware as instructed.

The current HP unsupported-Windows list specifically names the LaserJet 1000 and says no driver options are available for Windows 7, 8, 8.1 or 10. The manual's older Windows examples do not override that limitation or establish Windows 11 compatibility. No unofficial driver workaround, generic network conversion or modern plug-and-play promise is made here.

The original specification lists USB 1.1. Its PCL 5e statement is explicitly limited to DOS applications running in a Windows DOS shell, rather than general native PCL compatibility. No included Ethernet or wireless radio is established. AirPrint, Mopria and PIN-held document release remain unconfirmed.

One main tray handles ordinary paper and envelopes

The original enclosed input holds 250 sheets of regular 20-lb/75-g/m² paper. It documents a supported media range from 3×5 to 8.5×14 inches for that single input. Ordinary Letter, Legal and A4 lie within that stated range; the arrangement still needs the actual compatible driver and correct media setting.

Load ordinary paper with the print face up and the top toward the printer. Adjust both the side guides and long-media support, straighten the full stack when replenishing it, and replace the tray cover. A paper-support extension is an operating part of the setup, not evidence of an extra independent tray.

The original capacity statement allows up to 30 supported envelopes. Open the rear straight-through output, load the print face up with the stamp end forward, and feed a short-edge flap first when present. Adjust the guides, choose Envelope in the driver's Optimize for setting and replace the input cover.

Rear output arrives in reverse order and does not form an automatic stack. Pages drop to the surface below unless removed individually. Allow that exit space and use suitable laser-compatible media; the ordinary 250-sheet count is not an envelope capacity.

Keep unconfirmed features out of the buying assumptions

The full original guide does not establish a supported automatic-duplex arrangement or a driver-assisted two-sided routine here. Those capabilities remain unconfirmed instead of being borrowed from a later 1012 or 1020 guide. A selected automatic-duplex requirement is therefore not satisfied by this assessment.

This is a monochrome print-only engine with no scanner, flatbed, feeder, copier or fax. A laser/scanner assembly named in a service-parts catalog belongs to the print engine; it is not a document scanner for the user.

The original performance table declares ten pages per minute without an independently established Letter-specific basis in the sections used. The strict Letter-speed field remains unconfirmed. The original 7,000-page monthly duty statement is separate from a recommended monthly range, which also remains unconfirmed.

Check toner and the assembled working space

The original exact ordering table identifies C7115A, with historical life of approximately 2,500 pages at 5% text coverage, density three and EconoMode disabled. That historical basis is not converted into an ISO declaration or a promise about remaining toner. No higher-yield cartridge is borrowed from another family, and no current cost per page is calculated.

The specified assembled printer dimensions are 16.3 inches wide, 19.1 deep and 10 high, with 16.1-pound weight including the cartridge. Allow further rear-output, cable and cartridge-access space. This is useful as a carefully prepared legacy reference; present-system convenience needs a separately supported printer and software arrangement.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

The original exact performance table declares ten pages per minute without a Letter-specific basis established in the sections read, so strict one-sided Letter speed remains unknown. Original duty is 7,000 single-sided pages per month; a recommended monthly range is not established and is not inferred from duty.

Paper handling

One enclosed main input holds 250 ordinary 20-lb/75-g/m² sheets. Its positively documented 3×5–8.5×14-inch supported range includes ordinary Letter/Legal/A4; no separate priority stack or optional feeder assumed. Load print face up/top forward, adjust side guides and long-media support, straighten the entire stack and replace cover. Up to 30 supported envelopes use the same tray with rear straight-through output open, print face up/stamp end forward and short-edge flap first if present; select Envelope Optimize for setting. Rear output reverses order and does not stack, so allow a surface below or remove each sheet. Ordinary capacity is not envelope capacity.

Scanning arrangement

The actual original architecture is monochrome print only, with no document scanner, flatbed, feeder, copier or fax. A laser/scanner assembly in the parts catalog is part of the print engine and does not establish user document capture.

Computer and mobile connections

Earlier exact US LaserJet 1000 requires the documented USB cable-with-pod assembly plus an actually compatible legacy Windows host/driver. Original interface is USB 1.1, not a generic modern USB cable guarantee. HP explicitly lists LaserJet 1000 as unsupported in Windows 7/8/8.1/10 with no driver options; no Windows 11 or unofficial workaround promised. No included Ethernet/wireless arrangement, AirPrint/Mopria or PIN release established.

Supplies and declared yields

The exact original ordering table identifies C7115A at historical approximately 2,500 pages with 5% text coverage, density three and EconoMode off. No ISO yield or higher-yield cartridge compatibility borrowed from another family. Supplied or remaining toner in an individual discontinued printer is not promised. No live price or cost per page.

Software and support

Install the actual compatible original-era computer software before instructed hardware connection; plug dedicated cable pod into printer and USB end into PC. Original PCL 5e statement applies only to DOS applications running within a Windows DOS shell, not a general native PCL claim. Automatic and driver-assisted duplex routines remain unconfirmed; no neighboring-model reload instructions borrowed. Original watermark Confidential is not secure PIN-held release.

Electrical edition and setup

Actual US Q1342A#ABA discontinued identity plus original low-voltage 110–127-V 50/60-Hz configuration, separate from 220–240-V regional alternative. Do not convert voltage. Original specified assembled body is 16.3 W × 19.1 D × 10 H inches, with 16.1 lb including cartridge; no carton dimensions substituted. Allow paper support, rear straight-through exit, dedicated pod/cable and cartridge-access clearance. Modern Laser 1000 and Neverstop 1000 products are different generations and supply no features here.
