LaserJet 1022 (Q5912A#ABA)Illustrated overview
A useful fit for

A prepared compatible USB computer producing monochrome Letter, Legal or A4 documents within the maker recommended 250–2,000 monthly pages.

The main tradeoff

No included Ethernet, wireless radio, scanner or automatic duplex. Check actual driver support and provide the appropriate USB cable.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can the earlier base 1022 print monochrome Legal pages over USB with 260 ordinary sheets?

Qualifies with earlier references enabled, the correct cable and compatible driver. The actual standard-input fields establish 250 main plus ten priority sheets, and the original size table supports Legal.

Explore this need in the finder →
Can it finish both sides automatically after I select two-sided printing?

Fails automatic duplex. The original routine needs the user to reload first-side output printed side down and press Go.

Does an 8,000-page duty ceiling qualify it for 2,500 pages within the maker recommended monthly range?

Fails that recommendation requirement. The actual maker recommended range ends at 2,000 pages; maximum duty is a separate quantity.

A USB printer for prepared monochrome work

The HP LaserJet 1022 fits a compatible computer producing modest monochrome documents through a direct USB connection. Its documented ordinary input is a 250-sheet tray plus a ten-sheet priority feed. The deciding limitation is attended handling: two-sided printing needs manual reloading, and the base model has no included Ethernet port or wireless radio.

HP's exact US product page identifies Q5912A#ABA and explicitly marks it discontinued. This is an earlier configuration assessment without a current-stock promise. HP's US specification gives a 110–127-volt, 60-Hz edition separately from a 220–240-volt, 50-Hz regional version. The original guides also warn that regional power sources are not interchangeable.

Establish the actual computer and driver

The original configuration and connection instructions give the base 1022 a USB 2.0 High Speed port. Connect the correct cable to the printer and then to the computer when prompted by compatible installation software. HP's current specification says the USB cable is purchased separately, so do not assume one accompanies an individual earlier unit.

The internal network port belongs to the 1022n and 1022nw, while the integrated wireless radio belongs to the nw. Accessory print servers or wireless adapters listed alongside the base model are optional. No adapter is added to this assessment's included configuration.

The original user guide describes host-based printer drivers. Historical operating-system lists and later HP support links are starting points for checking software, rather than a promise that an arbitrary current computer will work. Establish the actual compatible driver before relying on this old USB arrangement. AirPrint, Mopria and PIN-held job release remain unconfirmed.

The 1022 is a monochrome print-only machine. There is no scanner, flatbed, document feeder, copier or fax. A generic print-and-scan support application cannot supply missing document-capture hardware.

Ordinary paper and envelopes use different counts

The main tray holds 250 ordinary 20-lb/75-g/m² sheets. The original capacity table and current HP standard-input section positively identify a ten-sheet priority feed, giving 260 ordinary sheets combined. A loading paragraph also describes feeding one special-media sheet; that wording is not used to erase the separately documented ordinary stack.

The original service guide explicitly names Letter, Legal and A4 and describes both feeds for the supported media sizes. Load ordinary paper face up with the top toward the printer, set the guides to the actual size and straighten the entire stack when replenishing it.

One supported envelope uses the priority feed. For a batch, the original routine allows up to 15 envelopes in the main tray. Load the print face up, top along the left guide, with a short-edge flap entering first when present. Set the real envelope size and Envelope type in the compatible driver, adjust the guides and replace the input cover. Ordinary 260-sheet capacity is not an envelope count.

Two-sided printing requires the user at the printer

Choose Print on Both Sides (Manually), or Manual Duplex in the relevant historical Mac driver, and the appropriate binding option. After the first sides print, gather and straighten the pages. Reload them printed side down with the bottom edge entering first, replace the input cover and press Go for the reverse sides.

This is a driver-assisted two-pass routine. It does not satisfy an automatic-duplex requirement. HP declares up to 19 one-sided Letter pages per minute and separately 18 A4; these are maker ratings, not measured speed here or a promise about attended two-sided throughput.

The current maker recommended monthly range is 250–2,000 pages. The 8,000-page maximum duty and original 1,000-page average are separate figures. A requirement for 2,500 pages within the recommended range is therefore not satisfied merely because the maximum duty is larger.

Confirm supplies and allow operating room

HP's exact US compatibility list maps this model to 12A Q2612A. The current cartridge technical section declares approximately 2,000 pages based on ISO/IEC 19752, with actual yield varying by content and other factors. That replacement declaration does not promise the supplied or remaining toner in a particular discontinued printer, and no live cost per page is calculated.

The original unit body is 14.6 inches wide, 9.6 deep and 9.5 high. Allow extra paper support, cables, loading and cartridge access. Weight remains unconfirmed across cartridge-installed and later unspecified presentations. The 1022 works as a prepared direct-printing reference; essential independent sharing, scanning or unattended duplex calls for different documented hardware.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Original exact family configuration declares up to 19 one-sided Letter ppm, separately 18 A4. Maker figures are not measured or automatic-duplex speed. Actual current exact-maker recommendation 250–2,000 monthly pages is separate from maximum duty 8,000 and original average 1,000; no maximum used as a recommendation. Current maker 8,000 and later original user guide control an earlier service-text 7,000 peak discrepancy.

Paper handling

Actual current HP standard input and original user-guide capacity table positively document main 250 plus ten-sheet priority feed, total 260 ordinary 20-lb/75-g/m² sheets. Original loading paragraph describes one special-media sheet, while the actual capacity table and current specifications confirm the ordinary ten-sheet stack. Actual original service table names Letter/Legal/A4 and both feeds are described for supported media sizes. Load ordinary paper face up/top toward printer with adjusted guides and straightened stack. One supported envelope uses priority, or up to 15 use main, face up/top along left guide and short-edge flap first if present; select actual Envelope type/size. Envelopes are separate from normal capacity.

Scanning arrangement

Actual original monochrome print-only architecture and one black cartridge. No scanner, feeder, flatbed, copier or fax. A network server or embedded status web page cannot add document capture.

Computer and mobile connections

Exact base 1022 has USB 2.0 High Speed and no included Ethernet or wireless radio. Use a correct separately purchased USB cable and actually compatible computer driver. External network/wireless adapters are optional and excluded. Historical software listings do not guarantee a present OS; no AirPrint/Mopria/PIN release established.

Supplies and declared yields

Actual maker US compatibility list maps all exact 1022/base/n/nw US identities to 12A Q2612A. Current exact 12A technical section declares approximately 2,000 pages under ISO/IEC 19752; original service guide independently states standard-cartridge 2,000 ISO basis. Supplied/remaining toner in an individual earlier unit is not promised, and no current cost per page calculated.

Software and support

Actual original manual duplex requires a compatible computer driver: choose Print on Both Sides (Manually) or Manual Duplex and binding, print first sides, straighten printed stack, reload printed side down/bottom edge first, replace input cover and press Go. No automatic duplex mechanism. Host-based original driver scope is not a universal present-OS promise; use actually compatible software. Rendezvous discovery and embedded web management do not establish AirPrint, Mopria or PIN-held release.

Electrical edition and setup

Exact US product identity/discontinued notice plus original low-voltage 110–127-V regional edition; current US support lists 60 Hz separately from 220–240-V 50 Hz alternative. Original user/service guide lists regional 50/60 Hz choices and warns voltages are not interchangeable. No universal-voltage promise. Body 14.6 W × 9.6 D × 9.5 H inches agrees with original 370×245×241 mm. Weight unknown against original 6.3 kg with cartridge versus later 5.5 kg unspecified basis. Allow loading/output support, cables and cartridge access. Original/current output-bin counts 100/125/150 and processor 133/266 MHz differ, so no unverified output-capacity/processor promise.
