Wired sharing for modest monochrome documents

The HP LaserJet 1022n suits compatible computers sharing an ordinary wired network, with monochrome printing and 260 ordinary sheets across its main and priority feeds. It includes 10/100 Ethernet and USB. The deciding limitation is duplex: network access does not remove the need to reload the first-side stack for two-sided printing.

HP's exact US product record identifies Q5913A#ABA and explicitly marks it discontinued. This is an earlier reference rather than a current offer. Its US specification lists a 110–127-volt, 60-Hz edition separately from the 220–240-volt, 50-Hz regional version. The original service guide warns that those power sources are not interchangeable.

Use the included network port with a compatible driver

The original exact n configuration adds an internal network port to the base 1022. The original network table and port specification identify RJ-45 10/100 Ethernet, and the documented setup requires a functioning wired network and CAT-5 cable.

Connect the printer to an actual network hub or router, check the 10- or 100-Mbps link indicator, and install a compatible printer driver on each computer that needs it. Holding Go for five seconds prints a configuration page. This helps identify the actual printer and network arrangement before ordinary shared printing.

USB is also a documented direct computer connection, with the correct cable and compatible installation procedure. HP's current specification says to purchase the USB cable separately. Neither the n suffix nor the presence of networking establishes an included wireless radio; the original lists wireless and Bluetooth devices as optional accessories.

The original software is driver-dependent. Period Windows and Mac listings, plus later HP support links, do not guarantee a particular present operating system. Establish the actual software arrangement. Rendezvous discovery and the embedded web server do not independently establish AirPrint, Mopria or PIN-held document release, which remain unconfirmed.

There is a real ten-sheet ordinary priority stack

HP's current exact n standard-input section specifies a 250-sheet main tray and a ten-sheet priority feed. The original user-guide capacity table agrees, even though its loading paragraph describes one special-media sheet. The ordinary included total is 260 sheets of appropriate 20-lb/75-g/m² paper.

The original service guide explicitly names Letter, Legal and A4, with both feeds described for the supported media sizes. Load normal paper face up with its top toward the printer, adjust the side and front guides to the actual size, and straighten the full stack when replenishing it.

For one supported envelope, use the priority input. A batch can contain up to 15 envelopes in the main tray under the original instructions. Keep the print face up and top edge along the left guide; a short-edge flap enters first when present. Select the real envelope size and Envelope type in the compatible driver and replace the input cover. The ordinary sheet total is not an envelope capacity.

Manual duplex still involves the person printing

Choose Print on Both Sides (Manually), or Manual Duplex in the appropriate historical Mac driver, and set the intended binding. After printing side one, gather and straighten the pages. Reload printed side down with the bottom edge entering first, replace the input cover and press Go to continue.

The mechanism is an attended two-pass process. It does not meet an automatic-duplex requirement, even when the first-side job arrives over Ethernet. The machine also has no scanner, feeder, flatbed, copier or fax; a network printing arrangement cannot add document capture.

HP declares up to 19 one-sided Letter pages per minute, separately 18 A4. These are maker ratings rather than measurements here. The current exact n recommended monthly range is 250–2,000 pages. The 8,000-page maximum duty and historical 1,000-page average are separate workload descriptions, not permission to substitute a larger recommended maximum.

Check toner and allow access beyond the body

HP's exact US compatibility list identifies 12A Q2612A for the 1022n. The cartridge technical section declares approximately 2,000 pages based on ISO/IEC 19752, with actual yield dependent on content and other conditions. This is a replacement declaration, not a guarantee of the toner supplied or remaining in a particular discontinued unit. No current cost per page is calculated.

The original body measures 14.6 inches wide, 9.6 deep and 9.5 high. Allow extra space for paper supports, cables, loading and cartridge access. Weight remains unconfirmed across cartridge-installed and later unspecified presentations. Choose the 1022n for prepared wired sharing within the documented workload; essential wireless, scanning or automatic duplex needs other confirmed hardware.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Original exact family configuration declares up to 19 one-sided Letter ppm, separately 18 A4. Maker figures are not measured or automatic-duplex speed. Actual current exact-maker recommendation 250–2,000 monthly pages is separate from maximum duty 8,000 and original average 1,000; no maximum used as a recommendation. Current maker 8,000 and later original user guide control an earlier service-text 7,000 peak discrepancy.

Paper handling

Actual current HP standard input and original user-guide capacity table positively document main 250 plus ten-sheet priority feed, total 260 ordinary 20-lb/75-g/m² sheets. Original loading paragraph describes one special-media sheet, while the actual capacity table and current specifications confirm the ordinary ten-sheet stack. Actual original service table names Letter/Legal/A4 and both feeds are described for supported media sizes. Load ordinary paper face up/top toward printer with adjusted guides and straightened stack. One supported envelope uses priority, or up to 15 use main, face up/top along left guide and short-edge flap first if present; select actual Envelope type/size. Envelopes are separate from normal capacity.

Scanning arrangement

Actual original monochrome print-only architecture and one black cartridge. No scanner, feeder, flatbed, copier or fax. A network server or embedded status web page cannot add document capture.

Computer and mobile connections

Exact 1022n includes USB 2.0 High Speed plus internal RJ-45 10/100 Ethernet. Wired setup needs a functional hub/router network, CAT-5 cable and compatible printer driver on each computer. Wireless/Bluetooth accessories are optional, not an included radio. USB cable purchased separately. Web management/Rendezvous do not prove AirPrint/Mopria or secure PIN release.

Supplies and declared yields

Actual maker US compatibility list maps all exact 1022/base/n/nw US identities to 12A Q2612A. Current exact 12A technical section declares approximately 2,000 pages under ISO/IEC 19752; original service guide independently states standard-cartridge 2,000 ISO basis. Supplied/remaining toner in an individual earlier unit is not promised, and no current cost per page calculated.

Software and support

Actual original manual duplex requires a compatible computer driver: choose Print on Both Sides (Manually) or Manual Duplex and binding, print first sides, straighten printed stack, reload printed side down/bottom edge first, replace input cover and press Go. No automatic duplex mechanism. Host-based original driver scope is not a universal present-OS promise; use actually compatible software. Rendezvous discovery and embedded web management do not establish AirPrint, Mopria or PIN-held release.

Electrical edition and setup

Exact US product identity/discontinued notice plus original low-voltage 110–127-V regional edition; current US support lists 60 Hz separately from 220–240-V 50 Hz alternative. Original user/service guide lists regional 50/60 Hz choices and warns voltages are not interchangeable. No universal-voltage promise. Body 14.6 W × 9.6 D × 9.5 H inches agrees with original 370×245×241 mm. Weight unknown against original 6.3 kg with cartridge versus later 5.5 kg unspecified basis. Allow loading/output support, cables and cartridge access. Original/current output-bin counts 100/125/150 and processor 133/266 MHz differ, so no unverified output-capacity/processor promise.
