Legacy wireless sharing with manual duplex

The HP LaserJet 1022nw fits compatible computers on a deliberately configured 802.11b/g wireless network, with wired Ethernet and USB available as separate arrangements. Its ordinary main and priority inputs provide 260 sheets combined. The deciding tradeoff is that both network compatibility and attended duplex need preparation: the radio is from an earlier generation, and the user must reload pages for their reverse sides.

HP's exact US product page identifies Q5914A#ABA and explicitly marks it discontinued. This is an earlier configuration reference without a current-stock claim. Its US specification lists the 110–127-volt, 60-Hz edition separately from a 220–240-volt, 50-Hz regional version. The original guides also warn that operating power sources are not interchangeable.

Match the actual wireless arrangement

The original exact nw configuration adds integrated 802.11b/g to the 1022n's USB and internal 10/100 Ethernet network port. Its model-specific wireless guide describes infrastructure mode, where the printer communicates through a wireless access point and compatible computers use that network.

Establish the matching network name, authentication and computer driver. The original wireless guide names WEP and WPA, with advanced settings through the embedded web server. It does not establish modern WPA3, WPA2-only or 5-GHz compatibility. Check the actual access point and acceptable network configuration before relying on this radio.

The exact guide explicitly says wired and wireless networking cannot operate together. Plugging a LAN cable into a printer communicating wirelessly switches it to wired communication. For Ethernet, use a functioning network, suitable CAT-5 cable, actual hub or router and compatible computer driver. USB remains a separate direct route, with the required cable purchased separately according to HP's current specification.

The original ad-hoc computer-to-computer mode is described separately from infrastructure networking. It is not relabeled Wi-Fi Direct, and it does not prove AirPrint or Mopria. Those mobile protocols and PIN-held document release remain unconfirmed. Rendezvous discovery and web management are not substitutes for an independently supported mobile print route.

Ordinary capacity is different from envelope handling

The current exact nw standard-input section and original capacity table specify a 250-sheet main tray plus a ten-sheet priority feed. A loading paragraph also describes one special-media sheet. The independently repeated ordinary ten-sheet capacity supports the combined 260-sheet arrangement.

The original service guide explicitly names Letter, Legal and A4, with both feeds described for supported media sizes. Load ordinary 20-lb/75-g/m² paper face up with the top toward the printer. Adjust the guides to the actual size and straighten the full stack when adding paper. Mixed media in the two feeds do not provide the combined total of each type simultaneously.

One supported envelope uses the priority slot. For a batch, the original routine allows up to 15 in the main tray. Keep the print face up, top along the left guide, and a short-edge flap entering first when present. Set the actual size and Envelope type in the compatible driver, adjust the guides and replace the input cover. The ordinary sheet total is not an envelope count.

Reloading is still required on a network job

Choose Print on Both Sides (Manually), or Manual Duplex in the appropriate historical Mac driver, and the intended binding. After the first sides print, gather and straighten the output. Reload printed side down with the bottom edge entering first, replace the input cover and press Go for the reverse sides.

This is an attended two-pass process. Wireless delivery does not make the paper path automatic. There is also no scanner, document feeder, flatbed, copier or fax; the original monochrome print-only architecture cannot satisfy a scanning need.

HP declares up to 19 one-sided Letter pages per minute and separately 18 A4, rather than measured two-sided throughput. The current exact-model recommended range is 250–2,000 monthly pages. The 8,000-page maximum duty and historical 1,000-page average remain separate quantities.

Check replacement toner and operating clearance

HP's exact US compatibility list maps the 1022nw to 12A Q2612A. The cartridge technical section declares approximately 2,000 pages based on ISO/IEC 19752, with actual yield varying by content and conditions. Installed and remaining toner in an individual discontinued unit are not promised. No live supply price or cost per page is assumed.

The original body is 14.6 inches wide, 9.6 deep and 9.5 high. Allow additional loading, output-support, cable and cartridge-access space. Weight remains unconfirmed across differing cartridge bases. The nw is useful when its actual legacy network requirements are acceptable; essential modern mobile compatibility or automatic duplex needs separately confirmed hardware.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Original exact family configuration declares up to 19 one-sided Letter ppm, separately 18 A4. Maker figures are not measured or automatic-duplex speed. Actual current exact-maker recommendation 250–2,000 monthly pages is separate from maximum duty 8,000 and original average 1,000; no maximum used as a recommendation. Current maker 8,000 and later original user guide control an earlier service-text 7,000 peak discrepancy.

Paper handling

Actual current HP standard input and original user-guide capacity table positively document main 250 plus ten-sheet priority feed, total 260 ordinary 20-lb/75-g/m² sheets. Original loading paragraph describes one special-media sheet, while the actual capacity table and current specifications confirm the ordinary ten-sheet stack. Actual original service table names Letter/Legal/A4 and both feeds are described for supported media sizes. Load ordinary paper face up/top toward printer with adjusted guides and straightened stack. One supported envelope uses priority, or up to 15 use main, face up/top along left guide and short-edge flap first if present; select actual Envelope type/size. Envelopes are separate from normal capacity.

Scanning arrangement

Actual original monochrome print-only architecture and one black cartridge. No scanner, feeder, flatbed, copier or fax. A network server or embedded status web page cannot add document capture.

Computer and mobile connections

Exact 1022nw includes USB 2.0 High Speed, RJ-45 10/100 Ethernet and integrated 802.11b/g Wi-Fi. Own original wireless guide explicitly separates wired/wireless use; plugging LAN into active wireless switches to wired. Infrastructure needs a compatible access point, matching SSID/authentication and compatible computer driver. Original WEP/WPA setup does not establish WPA3, WPA2-only or 5-GHz compatibility. Legacy ad-hoc is not relabeled Wi-Fi Direct. AirPrint/Mopria/PIN release unconfirmed.

Supplies and declared yields

Actual maker US compatibility list maps all exact 1022/base/n/nw US identities to 12A Q2612A. Current exact 12A technical section declares approximately 2,000 pages under ISO/IEC 19752; original service guide independently states standard-cartridge 2,000 ISO basis. Supplied/remaining toner in an individual earlier unit is not promised, and no current cost per page calculated.

Software and support

Actual original manual duplex requires a compatible computer driver: choose Print on Both Sides (Manually) or Manual Duplex and binding, print first sides, straighten printed stack, reload printed side down/bottom edge first, replace input cover and press Go. No automatic duplex mechanism. Host-based original driver scope is not a universal present-OS promise; use actually compatible software. Rendezvous discovery and embedded web management do not establish AirPrint, Mopria or PIN-held release.

Electrical edition and setup

Exact US product identity/discontinued notice plus original low-voltage 110–127-V regional edition; current US support lists 60 Hz separately from 220–240-V 50 Hz alternative. Original user/service guide lists regional 50/60 Hz choices and warns voltages are not interchangeable. No universal-voltage promise. Body 14.6 W × 9.6 D × 9.5 H inches agrees with original 370×245×241 mm. Weight unknown against original 6.3 kg with cartridge versus later 5.5 kg unspecified basis. Allow loading/output support, cables and cartridge access. Original/current output-bin counts 100/125/150 and processor 133/266 MHz differ, so no unverified output-capacity/processor promise.
