Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can a genuine compatible parallel computer use the earlier US 1100xi with 125 ordinary A4 sheets?

Qualifies with earlier references enabled and connection left flexible. It needs the correct C-type cable and actual compatible host/driver. The single-sheet priority slot is excluded from the 125-sheet main count.

Ordinary monochrome work on a genuine legacy host

The HP LaserJet 1100xi suits an intentionally maintained parallel-computer installation producing modest monochrome documents. The documented US commercial package has a 125-sheet main input, a single-sheet priority slot and a parallel cable declared in the original box. Its deciding limitation is the host: it needs a real compatible parallel connection and driver, with automatic duplex, networking and the optional scanner excluded.

HP's exact US product record identifies C4225A and explicitly marks the model discontinued. Original ordering material separately identifies this xi package as US Commercial, with a period Document Builder software bundle. That historic application provision is not a promise of current compatibility or support. This is an earlier-model reference without a current-stock claim.

Check the C-type connector and actual cable

The original hardware uses a bidirectional IEEE 1284 parallel interface with a C-type printer connector. HP declares a two-metre parallel cable in the original package. Check that the correct cable is actually present for the individual earlier unit and that the computer supplies a genuinely compatible port.

A USB cable is not that connection, and no unverified converter is assumed. External JetDirect print servers appear as optional accessories; the xi does not inherit an included Ethernet server or wireless radio from a different setup. The normal matched arrangement here is compatible computer printing over its actual legacy parallel connection.

HP documents PCL 5e and historic Windows, DOS and OS/2 environments. Those lists do not establish present operating-system support. AirPrint, Mopria and PIN-held release remain unconfirmed. A Confidential watermark is printed page decoration, while a manual-feed privacy routine uses the Go button; neither establishes a PIN-protected stored job.

Count the main stack and use priority for one sheet

The normal included capacity is 125 ordinary sheets, based on the actual print-only manual's 20-lb/75-g/m² specification. The separate priority slot takes one sheet and is not counted as another normal stack. Letter, Legal and A4 are named in the original technical data and fit the sole main input's supported range.

Load ordinary paper top down with the print face toward the front. Adjust the guides and match the actual size and type in compatible software. When replenishing, remove and straighten the whole stack rather than simply adding paper on top. Priority input feeds first, which allows one letterhead cover sheet ahead of a plain-paper document.

A single supported envelope can use priority input, or a batch of up to ten can use the main input. Lower the paper-output lever for the straight-through path. Load the narrow stamp end down with the print face toward the front, adjust the guides and select the actual envelope size in software. Envelope and ordinary-paper capacities are different counts.

The original duplex routine needs your attendance

For ordinary manual duplex, put the output lever up and select Manual Duplex (standard) in the compatible driver's Finishing tab. Print the first sides, remove unused input paper, gather the output and rotate the stack clockwise before straightening and reloading it. Page one goes upside down nearest the back, with its printed face toward the back; click on-screen OK for the reverse sides.

This two-pass handling process is not automatic duplex. The manual also gives a different routine for suitable heavier media using the straight-through path. Do not interchange the two stack instructions or describe a driver choice as an automatic turning mechanism.

The xi does not include the scanner attachment

The original exact xi description makes copy and scan capabilities optional through C4221A. The separately named 1100A package includes the copier/scanner. This xi configuration therefore has no included document scanner, feeder, flatbed, copy function or fax. A PC-fax software link cannot establish a built-in fax modem.

HP expressly rates the print-only engine at eight one-sided Letter pages per minute and a 7,000-page maximum monthly duty. These are maker declarations rather than measurements here. A recommended monthly range remains unconfirmed.

Supplies and installation still need a physical check

The original C4092A declaration is approximately 2,500 pages at historical 5% text coverage, density three and EconoMode disabled. No ISO basis, current toner remainder or live page cost is inferred. The actual unit dimensions are 14.5 inches wide, 12.8 deep and 14.9 high in the documented paper-support arrangement, weighing 16.1 pounds with toner.

Original North American power specifications document the low-voltage version separately from high-voltage editions. Verify the actual rating plate and allow loading, output, cable and cartridge access. Choose the xi for a verified legacy parallel setup; essential USB, networking, scanning or unattended duplex needs different documented equipment.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

The actual print-only user guide expressly rates eight one-sided Letter pages per minute. This is a maker figure, not a hands-on result or duplex speed. Maximum duty is 7,000 single-sided pages per month; no recommended monthly range is established or inferred from maximum duty.

Paper handling

Included main input holds 125 ordinary 20-lb/75-g/m² sheets. The separate single-sheet priority slot is excluded from normal-stack capacity. The sole main-tray supported range and original named Letter, Legal and A4 establish those ordinary sizes at 125 sheets. Load top down with the print face toward the front; adjust guides and straighten the whole stack when replenishing. Priority input is used first. Up to ten supported envelopes can use the main input; a single envelope can use priority. Load narrow stamp end down and print face forward, set the actual envelope size and lower the output lever for the straight-through path. Manual duplex is attended: output lever up, compatible driver Manual Duplex (standard), print first sides, remove unused input, rotate the printed stack clockwise, reload with page one upside down nearest the back and printed face toward the back, then click on-screen OK.

Scanning arrangement

Exact xi/se packages are print-only. C4221A copier/scanner is a separate optional attachment; the 1100A package includes it and is a different configuration. No scanner, feeder, flatbed, copy or fax is included here. A PC-fax software link and an optional scanner do not establish a built-in fax modem.

Computer and mobile connections

Exact included interface is bidirectional IEEE 1284 parallel with a C-type printer connector, with a two-metre cable declared in the original package. Actual cable presence and a genuine compatible legacy parallel host/driver need checking for the individual earlier unit. No USB converter or included external JetDirect server assumed. Network servers are optional; no included Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, AirPrint or Mopria arrangement established.

Supplies and declared yields

Exact original ordering table identifies C4092A. HP declares approximately 2,500 pages under historical 5%-text-coverage conditions, print density three and EconoMode off. No ISO basis is substituted, and neither the original included-cartridge declaration nor replacement life promises current installed or remaining toner. No current price or cost per page.

Software and support

Original PCL 5e printing requires an actually compatible host, port, cable and printer driver. Historic Windows, DOS and OS/2 lists and bundled applications do not promise present support. Manual Duplex (standard) needs attended stack handling and an on-screen OK; it is not automatic duplex. A Confidential watermark and manual-feed Go-button privacy routine do not establish PIN-held job release. Optional scanner software and 1100A functions are excluded.

Electrical edition and setup

Exact original US package identity plus original North American low-voltage configuration. Technical data states 100–127 V at 50/60 Hz; the later manual separately lists 100–120 V at 50/60 Hz and 127 V at 60 Hz NOM. Separate high-voltage editions are not universal voltage; verify the individual plate and do not convert voltage. Actual unit dimensions are 14.5 W × 12.8 D × 14.9 H inches in the documented paper-support arrangement, 16.1 lb with toner installed. The technical-data full dimensions and print-only manual agree; coarse comparison footprint and shipping measurements are not substituted. Allow output, cables, paper loading and cartridge access.
