LaserJet 1200n (C7048A)Illustrated overview
A useful fit for

A compatible earlier wired printing routine with the complete external server and power hardware.

The main tradeoff

The server, power module and USB link must be present; scanner hardware and automatic duplex are not included.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can the complete n bundle print ordinary monochrome Legal pages over Ethernet with 260 sheets ready?

Yes with a working 175x server, its power and USB link, compatible software and the documented paper arrangement.

Does n include the 1220 scanner and copying attachment?

No. That attachment is optional on the 1200 engine and not part of the n network bundle.

Does it provide automatic two-sided printing?

No. The documented routine is manual refeeding.

Check that the complete network bundle is present

The HP LaserJet 1200n combines the monochrome 1200 printer engine with an external Jetdirect 175x print server. The n designation is therefore a package decision rather than proof that the printer cabinet has an embedded Ethernet socket.

The server, its power module and the USB link to the printer all matter. An offer containing only the familiar printer body may not provide the network arrangement that made the original bundle useful. Identify the complete equipment before comparing it with a direct USB printer. Check the printer-to-server cable and mounting clip as well.

Test the whole Ethernet path

The external server connects to the network and uses its USB connection to reach the printer. It also needs its own power. Check the network connection, configuration and actual computer software rather than stopping when the printer itself powers on.

Print a representative document through the intended network route. Include the application's fonts, graphics and paper choices, and check reconnection after restarting. A clean printer self-test cannot establish that the external server and client configuration are working together.

The original instructions describe one printer attached to the server rather than a USB hub serving several devices. Direct computer USB printing is a different arrangement and uses the printer connection that otherwise links it to the server.

The n bundle does not include the scanner package

The 1200 engine can be discussed alongside an optional copying and scanning attachment, while the 1220 package includes additional capture hardware. Those family relationships do not turn the exact n network bundle into a multifunction device.

If the actual task includes copying signed pages or capturing incoming paper, inspect whether suitable additional hardware is installed and supported. Otherwise compare a separate scanner or a documented multifunction alternative.

This distinction also matters when reading the original manual. A chapter explaining a scanner does not establish that the attachment is physically supplied with every printer covered by that guide.

Two input paths support a modest paper routine

The main input holds 250 ordinary sheets and the priority input ten. They can provide a convenient small-office arrangement when the supported stock and settings match the work. Confirm the priority source before sending a job that should use a particular sheet.

Longer forms, envelopes and heavier material deserve their specific loading and output choices. A wider media range does not mean every material should follow the same route. Test the paper actually used by the application.

Manual two-sided work requires sending paper through twice. The original driver-assisted procedure is described for Windows, so the software route needs checking as well as the physical refeeding. For repeated unattended two-sided reports, compare automatic-duplex equipment.

Use the declared print rate in context

The original guide separates the Letter and A4 engine declarations. Those manufacturer figures are not measured timing for a particular earlier unit or a complex modern file. Processing and the external network route can affect the practical wait.

The historical monthly duty figure is different from a verified recommendation for recurring workload. Include paper changes, manual handling and the condition of the actual printer and server in a practical assessment.

Inspect the printer and its separate accessories together

Check repeated feeding, representative output, supplies and current compatibility of the complete computer route. Verify the electrical ratings of both the printer and external power module. Allow space for the server, cables, paper access and service covers.

Choose the 1200n when a complete, tested earlier wired arrangement fits an existing need. Compare a model with an integrated current connection when maintaining the extra server and legacy software would add more effort than useful capability.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Original guide declares 15 Letter or 14 A4 pages per minute. The 10,000-page monthly duty figure and historical average are not verified recommended recurring volume limits. No measured timing is claimed.

Paper handling

Main 250-sheet and priority 10-sheet inputs total 260 ordinary sheets. Letter, Legal and A4 fit the documented ranges. Two-sided printing requires manual refeeding; the guide’s driver-assisted routine is Windows-only. Check output path and media conditions. Envelopes have their separate instructed loading routine.

Scanning arrangement

Print-only equipment, without a scanner, copying glass, document feeder or fax.

Computer and mobile connections

The exact C7048A n bundle includes an external Jetdirect 175x 10/100Ethernet server, independent power module, USB cable and clip. It is not an embedded network port. The server uses the printer’s USB connection; direct computer USB is a separate arrangement. No hub, wireless or current adapter compatibility is assumed.

Supplies and declared yields

Match exact regional 15A/C7115A supply and any supported alternative against original instructions. Declared yield is not installed remaining toner, a current price or a running-cost estimate.

Software and support

The original printer-only guide lists 16 MB RAM on 1200N and PCL 5e, PCL 6 and PostScript Level 2 emulation. Scan/copy requires optional C7046A hardware; it is not part of the n print bundle. Check current client and 175x network compatibility; historical systems are not current promises.

Electrical edition and setup

Earlier C7048A network bundle. Printer body 16.3×19.1×10 inches excludes the external server and power module; allow their cables, ventilation and operating access. Weight differs between brochure and guide, so remains unassigned. Verify regional electrical plates for both printer and power module.
