Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can the earlier 1320n print two-sided Legal documents on Ethernet with 250 included ordinary sheets?
Qualifies with earlier references enabled, the actual local network and compatible computer driver. Set the rear selector in for Legal and close the straight-through exit.
Explore this need in the finder →Can I choose Wi-Fi because this network model has an n suffix?
Fails a Wi-Fi requirement. The included n connection is wired 10/100 Ethernet; the separate nw is the configuration with an integrated wireless radio.
Explore this need in the finder →Does the n configuration include 500 ordinary sheets without an extra feeder?
Fails that included-capacity requirement. This model has one 250-sheet stack and a separate single-sheet priority input.
Explore this need in the finder →Wired sharing is the reason to choose the n
The HP LaserJet 1320n fits a small group with a compatible wired network and ordinary monochrome documents to print on both sides. It includes an internal Jetdirect network port, USB and automatic duplex for Letter, Legal and A4. Its deciding limitation is paper supply: the n configuration includes one 250-sheet stack, while the second 250-sheet tray belongs to a separately equipped configuration.
HP's US product record identifies Q5928A#ABA and explicitly marks it discontinued. This review describes that earlier US reference, not current availability. The original exact-model electrical row provides a 110–127-volt, 50/60-Hz configuration separately from a 220–240-volt regional edition. Check the unit's rating; the alternative regional entries do not describe universal-voltage hardware.
Ethernet replaces the base printer's parallel port
The original configuration paragraph is unusually useful: the 1320n has an internal HP Jetdirect network port instead of the base 1320's IEEE 1284-B parallel port. The original datasheet independently lists USB and RJ-45 10/100 Ethernet for the n. It does not have three included computer interfaces.
For the documented network arrangement, connect the printer by a suitable Ethernet cable to the network hub or router. Install an actually compatible printer driver on the computer. The original setup routine checks the 10- or 100-Mbps network indicator and prints a configuration page by holding Go for five seconds.
The network configuration page helps identify the printer and its address. The embedded web server offers status and settings; administrator access is not a PIN-held document-release function. AirPrint, Mopria and secure PIN printing remain unconfirmed rather than being inferred from network discovery or a web interface.
USB remains a separate direct computer arrangement. Use the correct cable and follow the compatible installation prompts. The original PCL 5e, PCL 6 and PostScript Level 2 emulation listings describe printer languages; the historical operating-system list does not establish that a present computer has supported software. No wireless radio is included on the 1320n.
Automatic duplex needs the physical size setting
The original automatic two-sided procedure explicitly covers Letter, Legal and A4. Close the straight-through output door. Push the rear media selector in for Letter or Legal; pull it out for A4. In the compatible driver, select Print on Both Sides. Some historical Mac installations require the Duplex Unit to be marked Installed first.
This is an automatic print mechanism, so ordinary supported jobs do not require reloading the first-side stack. It adds no scanner, document feeder, copier or fax. A two-sided printing requirement is suitable here; a two-sided scanning requirement needs different hardware.
HP declares up to 22 one-sided Letter pages per minute and separately 21 A4. Those figures do not measure automatic-duplex output or real-world speed in this review. Special-media modes can slow the engine, and driver choice remains part of the working arrangement.
Keep the normal tray and special-media routines separate
The enclosed main tray holds 250 sheets of ordinary 20-lb/75-g/m² paper. Its original size range supports Letter, Legal and A4. Load the stack face down with its top toward the printer, set the side and rear guides, and straighten old and new paper when replenishing the tray.
The priority feed takes one sheet at a time. It is useful for a separate cover page but does not make the normal stack 251 sheets. A second 250-sheet feeder is optional on this configuration. Do not assume the 500-sheet tn package simply because the n can accept an accessory.
Supported envelopes use the single-sheet priority slot one at a time with the rear straight-through exit open. Place the print face up and the top along the left guide; feed a short-edge flap first when present. Choose Envelope type and actual size in the compatible driver, following the Go-button step. This is an attended single-sided routine, not an automatic envelope batch or duplex promise.
Check replacement supplies and the complete working space
The original specification separates 10,000 monthly pages as maximum duty from 1,000 as an average. Neither establishes a recommended monthly maximum. The recommendation field remains unconfirmed when that is an essential buying requirement.
HP's family yield declaration gives 49A Q5949A at 2,500 standard pages and 49X Q5949X at 6,000 under ISO/IEC 19752. That identifies replacement options without promising the installed cartridge or remaining toner in an individual earlier printer. No current cost per page is calculated.
The consistent original metric width and height are 350 and 256 mm, approximately 13.78 and 10.08 inches. Depth and weight remain unconfirmed across differing original presentations and cartridge bases. Allow rear-output, cable and service access. Choose the 1320n for prepared wired duplex sharing; confirm a larger tray package or wireless arrangement separately when required.

Paper, software and setup details
Print-rate conditions
Original 1320-family configuration declares maximum 22 one-sided Letter ppm, separately 21 A4. These are maker figures, not measurements here or duplex speed. Original maximum monthly duty 10,000 differs from stated average 1,000; average is not a recommended monthly maximum, so the recommendation range remains unknown. Special-media modes can slow output.
Paper handling
Included enclosed main tray holds 250 ordinary 20-lb/75-g/m² sheets; the separate single-sheet priority slot is not another normal stack. Main-tray range 147×211–216×356 mm and expressly named Letter/Legal/A4 duplex sizes support those ordinary sizes. Load main paper face down/top toward printer, adjust side/rear guides and straighten the stack when replenishing. One supported envelope at a time uses the priority slot face up/top along left guide, short-edge flap first when present; open rear straight-through output, select Envelope type and actual size in the compatible driver, and press Go as instructed. Automatic duplex is for supported ordinary paper, not envelopes.
Scanning arrangement
Actual original monochrome print-only architecture. No scanner, flatbed, document feeder, copier or fax. A Jetdirect print server or a printer-management web page does not add document capture.
Computer and mobile connections
Exact 1320n includes USB plus internal HP Jetdirect RJ-45 10/100 Ethernet. Its network port replaces the base model parallel port; no included parallel or wireless radio. Ethernet needs an actual router/hub, suitable cable and compatible computer printer driver. Configuration page and embedded web server are management, not confirmed AirPrint/Mopria or PIN release.
Supplies and declared yields
Original 1320-specific configuration and HP page-yield table identify 49A Q5949A at 2,500 and optional higher-yield 49X Q5949X at 6,000 standard pages, declared under ISO/IEC 19752. Original guide separately describes historical 5%-text-coverage life with density three/EconoMode off; the measurement bases are not merged. Supplied cartridge type and remaining toner are not promised. No current supply price or cost per page calculated.
Software and support
Use the exact compatible computer printer driver and correct cable. Actual 1320-family automatic duplex procedure supports Letter/Legal/A4: close rear straight-through output, push rear media selector in for Letter/Legal or pull it out for A4, then select Print on Both Sides in the compatible driver. Some historical Mac drivers need Duplex Unit marked Installed. PCL 5e/PCL 6/PostScript Level 2 emulation are original 1320 features, but historical Windows/Mac lists do not guarantee present OS compatibility. AirPrint, Mopria and PIN-held job release remain unconfirmed; a web administrator password is not document-release PIN.
Electrical edition and setup
Exact US identity combined with original 110–127-V 50/60-Hz low-voltage edition. The separate 220–240-V regional edition is not a universal-voltage promise; do not convert voltage. Original manual metric width 350 mm agrees with exact-model datasheet, while its 16.8-inch width is an obvious inconsistent unit conversion and is not adopted. Width 13.78 and height 10.08 inches are conversions of the original 350×256-mm body dimensions. Depth remains unknown against 352 versus 355-mm original presentations; weight remains unknown against different stated cartridge/unspecified bases. Allow rear output, paper loading, cables and cartridge access beyond the closed body.
