LaserJet 3055 (Q6503A#ABA; earlier US reference)Illustrated overview
A useful fit for

An established compatible full-software computer setup needing color file capture, monochrome documents and a separately connected conventional fax line.

The main tradeoff

Both print duplex and two-sided originals require manual handling. Legal scans use the feeder, period scanning software needs verification, and wireless or PIN release is not assumed.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can a compatible USB computer print, scan, copy and fax with color Legal-original capture?

Qualifies with earlier references enabled, the supported full software and Legal originals in the simplex feeder. Fax separately requires the documented working telephone-line arrangement; the USB cable does not supply it. Printed and copied output remains monochrome.

Can it automatically scan both sides through the feeder over Ethernet?

Fails. The assessed computer drivers expressly do not support duplex scanning, and the actual 3055 two-sided original routine requires manual reloading.

Does the standard 3055 automatically duplex Letter print jobs?

Fails. Its driver-assisted two-sided printing requires manual reinsertion; the larger family models have different hardware.

An earlier office all-in-one with a real fax connection

The HP LaserJet 3055 is useful when an existing compatible office setup needs monochrome printing, copying, color computer scans and a conventional fax modem in one machine. Its included USB and native Ethernet interfaces give it two documented computer arrangements. The important limits are manual two-sided work and the need to verify the actual scanning software before relying on a modern computer.

The exact US Q6503A#ABA reference is explicitly marked discontinued. This review treats it as an earlier configuration rather than a current-stock recommendation. It is distinct from the 3052: the original model comparison positively assigns fax hardware to the 3055, while the 3052 does not have it.

Declared printing reaches 19 one-sided Letter pages per minute, separately 18 ppm on A4. HP's recommended monthly range is 500–2,000 printed pages; the 7,000-page maximum duty figure is a different limit. Neither number is a hands-on endurance result or a promise that every scan-heavy office will sustain that workload.

Fax requires the telephone arrangement as well as the MFP

The RJ-11 fax and telephone connections are separate from the USB and RJ-45 computer-network interfaces. Connect the documented line port with the appropriate supplied fax cord to a working compatible telephone arrangement, and configure the actual fax settings. An Ethernet cable does not provide the telephone line.

The original guide explains dedicated and shared-line arrangements and warns that not every splitter is compatible. If voice calls, an answering machine or another device shares the service, follow the matching setup rather than combining diagrams from different line configurations. Do not assume a modern VoIP adapter has been validated simply because it presents a telephone socket.

The included modem supports standalone fax, while the computer software adds its own supported fax controls. Fax memory and estimated transmission time depend on the stated document/test conditions; neither is a guarantee for an arbitrary multipage scan.

Legal feeder scanning does not enlarge the flatbed

The glass supports Letter and A4. The 50-sheet ADF gives loose ordinary originals a confirmed scanning maximum of 8.5 by 14 inches, so it can handle Legal documents through that route. A separate generic 15-inch feed-length entry is not used to extend the exact scan maximum.

Put feeder originals face up, leading edge first, with the first page on top. Align the guides and remove clips, staples and correction material. Use the glass for a suitable photograph, book or fragile item after clearing the feeder. The scanner captures color even though the print engine and ordinary copied output are black and white.

For two-sided originals, the exact 3052/3055 copy instructions require reloading the originals with the reverse faces up and sorting the resulting one-sided copies. The computer TWAIN and WIA drivers also explicitly do not support duplex scanning. This is not an automatic two-sided capture arrangement.

Confirm the full computer software and the connection type

The original Software Technical Reference supports full-feature direct USB and native TCP/IP network installations. It separately limits remote users of a Windows-shared USB print queue to printing. Those remote users do not gain scanning merely because the host computer can scan.

Use an actually compatible full software installation for HP LaserJet Scan or supported TWAIN/WIA capture. The reviewed original describes period Windows and Mac environments; a currently available print driver or general support-page heading does not guarantee the same scanning features on today's operating systems.

HP LaserJet Scan can save to a file, perform separately installed OCR or attach a scan through a compatible computer email application. Panel Scan To destinations require configuration and running HP ToolboxFX. Native-network panel initiation is off by default, and its behavior differs from the USB one-touch launch. None of this is an independent printer SMTP email service.

The paper count is 260, with manual duplex

The included 250-sheet main tray and ten-sheet priority slot hold 260 ordinary sheets on the original 80-g/m² basis. Letter, Legal and A4 are documented in the paper table. The 50-sheet original feeder and 100-sheet output bin are not additional blank-paper inputs.

Two-sided printing requires the compatible driver's manual routine and a second paper pass. For suitable envelopes, HP recommends the priority input, with up to ten and a maximum 90-g/m² envelope weight. Select the actual size and type and avoid damaged stock, windows, exposed adhesive and fasteners.

Replacement black toner is Q2612A, declared at approximately 2,000 pages under ISO/IEC 19752 rather than a statement of remaining toner. Separate 110–127 V and 220–240 V editions need an actual voltage-plate check. Source depth and height figures differ, so measure the installed assembly and allow access for originals, paper supports, toner and cables. Choose an actual automatic-duplex model if frequent two-sided work is essential.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Maker one-sided print speed up to 19 Letter ppm, separately 18 A4 ppm. Recommended monthly print range 500–2,000 is not maximum duty 7,000. Fax transmission and stored-page figures use stated ITU document conditions, not measured results or arbitrary document guarantees.

Paper handling

Included 250-sheet main input and ten-sheet priority slot total 260 ordinary sheets on the original 80-g/m² basis, with named Letter/Legal/A4 support. Original ADF 50 and output 100 are excluded. Automatic print duplex is absent; manual driver routine requires a second pass. Suitable envelopes use the recommended priority input, up to ten at maximum 90 g/m², subject to actual stock condition and driver size/type. No accessory or envelope duplex is assumed.

Scanning arrangement

Letter/A4 glass and 50-sheet original feeder; ordinary Letter/Legal/A4 simplex capture within explicit 8.5 × 14-inch scan maximum. Generic 15-inch custom feed entry is not a longer scan promise. Exact 3052/3055 two-sided copy instructions require flipping/reloading originals and sorting one-sided output; TWAIN and WIA expressly do not support duplex capture. No automatic or single-pass scan route. Color capture positive, printed/copied output monochrome. Feeder originals face up, leading edge first, first page on top; delicate originals/books/photos use suitable glass placement.

Computer and mobile connections

Included Hi-Speed USB 2.0 and native 10/100Base-T TCP/IP Ethernet support the documented full computer arrangements. Remote Windows-shared USB queue users get printing, not inherited scanning. No Wi-Fi accessory or mobile AirPrint/Mopria protocol is inferred. RJ-11 fax/telephone hardware is separate from computer USB/RJ-45. USB cable is separately purchased according to exact US field.

Supplies and declared yields

Exact US box includes HP black Q2612A print cartridge. The original exact configuration and current maker supply reference declare approximately 2,000 pages under ISO/IEC 19752; no remaining toner, price, measured yield or current cost per page is inferred. Higher interpolated scan figures are not optical resolution.

Software and support

Assessed computer capture uses genuinely compatible period full software, HP LaserJet Scan/TWAIN/WIA, not a promise that a current print-only driver supplies scanning. Panel Scan To needs configured destinations and running ToolboxFX; network initiation is off by default and differs from direct USB. Email attachment uses the compatible computer client, not printer SMTP. Readiris OCR is separately installed. Standalone analog fax needs the proper supplied fax cord, line port, configured compatible telephone service and matching shared-line instructions; splitter and VoIP compatibility are not assumed. Private PIN release remains unconfirmed.

Electrical edition and setup

Exact US Q6503A#ABA explicitly discontinued. Original secure setup is a historical documented software arrangement, not current stock or blanket OS support. US page and original guide list separate 110–127 V and 220–240 V, 50/60 Hz editions without an exact option-to-voltage crosswalk; mains unknown. Exact US width 19.6 inches/weight 27.4 lb with cartridge basis unstated. US depth/height 14.9/16 inches differ original 406/393 mm, so scalar depth/height remain unknown. Verify actual installed body and scanner/paper/toner/cable access.
