3200seIllustrated overview
A useful fit for

A maintained direct USB or legacy parallel workflow with actual compatible scanning software and suitable analog fax service.

The main tradeoff

Black-and-white printing, manual print duplex and no standard Ethernet. Current computer scanning support must be proved; automatic two-sided scanning and glass scanning remain unconfirmed.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can 3200se provide USB monochrome printing, color Legal feeder scans, local copying and fax?

Qualifies with earlier references enabled, an actual compatible direct USB HP scanning installation, normal supported originals and a separate suitable configured analog fax line. Color scanning does not change monochrome print output.

Explore this need in the finder →
Can 3200se automatically duplex ordinary Letter prints through USB?

Fails the automatic print-duplex essential. The original guide describes running the paper through twice manually with a compatible driver; the supplied PostScript option is excluded.

Explore this need in the finder →
Does the included 3200se configuration provide Ethernet computer scanning?

Fails the chosen connection. Networking requires a separately obtained supported Jetdirect print server; Windows printer sharing is not scanner access and is not built-in Ethernet.

An earlier monochrome all-in-one with a color scanner

The HP LaserJet 3200se is an earlier small-office printer, paper copier, scanner and fax. HP's exact US page identifies C7053A#ABA and marks it discontinued. The original English user guide explicitly names 3200se in its specifications and C7053A in its model declaration. This review covers the documented US 110-volt configuration, with 100–127-volt, 50–60-Hz requirements.

Its color scanner does not make it a color printer. The guide explicitly explains that a color copy would require scanning with this machine and printing on a separate color printer. Its own printed pages and local paper copies are monochrome. A usable 3200se therefore fits a defined legacy document workflow rather than a requirement for color output.

Direct USB and optional networking need different expectations

The product supports a direct computer USB connection or a dedicated bidirectional IEEE-1284/ECP parallel connection. A compatible installation of its actual printing and scanning software is central to using these routes. The setup guide describes USB installation for its contemporary Windows versions; that documentation is not a promise that every current operating system supplies the full scanning package.

In the documented direct setup, the original HP LaserJet Director can send color scans to a chosen computer destination. The user guide also describes TWAIN scanning from a compatible application. Check the intended operating system, installed software and a real saved scan before relying on the machine. A basic print driver alone does not establish the complete scanner workflow.

Networking in these documents uses a supported external Jetdirect print server that is explicitly not included. Some servers require a specified firmware revision. This review does not count that accessory as built-in Ethernet or assume an arbitrary modern USB print server reproduces its functions.

Windows sharing from a directly attached computer is another arrangement: the setup guide limits other shared users to printing. It is not the same as giving every network user scanner access. Neither Wi-Fi Direct nor a native AirPrint or Mopria arrangement is established in the sources read.

Separate ordinary paper from originals entering the scanner

The ordinary paper tray holds 125 sheets at 75 g/m², with a separate single-sheet priority input. Both accept Letter, Legal and A4 within the documented size range. The normal stack capacity remains 125 sheets; the extra single-sheet feed is kept separate from that ordinary-paper capacity. Paper loaded there takes priority over the main stack.

The document feeder is a different path. It accepts up to 30 ordinary originals at the instructed 46–105 g/m² range. Scanning extends to 8.5 by 14 inches, allowing Legal as well as Letter and A4. Fragile or irregular originals require the carrier-sheet procedure and one-at-a-time special-media setting. This review does not establish a glass-scanning routine or an automatic two-sided feeder route.

For two-sided printed documents, HP instructs users to run the paper through twice and choose Print on Both Sides (Manually) in the compatible driver. The supplied PostScript driver does not offer that option. This is manual handling, not an automatic duplex unit. Follow the indicated output path and do not duplex prohibited media such as labels or transparencies.

Envelope printing uses supported sizes and the instructed straight-through output path. Open the front paper-path door, select the correct size and orientation, and close the door after the job. Avoid unsuitable adhesive, clasped or window envelopes rather than assuming every envelope can tolerate the feed and laser fuser.

Fax, supplies and a realistic restoration check

The fax requires a suitable analog telephone arrangement. The setup documentation allows a dedicated fax line or an appropriately configured shared voice/fax line, with answer settings matched to that arrangement. Digital phone systems, voicemail and call waiting require particular attention. Confirm actual send and receive behavior and configure the header; a USB cable does not replace the telephone connection.

HP's specification states nine print pages per minute without assigning Letter or A4 in that particular table, so no size-specific rate is inferred here. The 7,000-page printer duty figure is not a recommended recurring workload. The separate 2,000-item scanner duty figure is not a print-volume recommendation either.

The guide identifies C4092A replacement toner. Remaining toner, supply life and current operating cost are unknown. Check the pickup and scanner separation parts, output, scan quality and fax performance on the actual machine. Its stated body is approximately 15.1 inches wide, 15.4 deep and 10.8 high, weighing 23.4 pounds with the cartridge installed; allow additional room for supports and the selected output path.

A complete 3200se can remain useful where its old software and direct connection already work. Its decisive limits are monochrome output, manual print duplex and the need to prove the present computer-scanning arrangement before depending on it.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Original specifications give nine print ppm without naming Letter/A4 in that table; size-specific print rate unknown. Printer duty 7,000 single-sided monthly pages and scanner duty 2,000 single-sided items are not recommended recurring print volume.

Paper handling

Included 125-sheet normal main input at 75 g/m², plus a separate single-sheet priority feed that is not added to normal stack capacity. Letter/Legal/A4 positively supported in both feeds. Manual print duplex requires two passes and compatible non-PostScript driver; no automatic unit. Envelope routine uses supported sizes, correct software settings and open front straight-through door, then closes it afterward.

Scanning arrangement

30-page feeder at 46–105 g/m² ordinary original basis; documented scan range to 8.5×14 in supports Letter/Legal/A4. Color scanning through actual compatible direct-computer software. No established glass or automatic two-sided scan route; carrier-sheet/special-media lever instructions for fragile originals one at a time. Color scans do not make color print/copy output.

Computer and mobile connections

USB or dedicated IEEE-1284/ECP bidirectional parallel direct computer route with actual compatible HP printing/scanning software. Fax separately requires suitable configured analog telephone line. External supported Jetdirect network server is not included; no standard Ethernet/Wi-Fi assumed. Windows sharing is remote printing only and does not distribute the direct scanner.

Supplies and declared yields

Original guide names C4092A replacement toner. No included, replacement-yield, installed remaining-toner or cost-per-page number assigned from other models.

Software and support

HP Director scanning or TWAIN in an actually compatible direct-computer installation. Setup-era USB Windows versions are historical evidence, not present universal software support. Manual duplex option unavailable in supplied PostScript driver. PIN-held print jobs, AirPrint and Mopria unestablished.

Electrical edition and setup

Exact HP US C7053A#ABA 3200se discontinued. US-capable original guide explicitly names 3200se and C7053A, includes United States approval and 100–127 VAC 50–60 Hz configuration; separate 220–240 VAC 50 Hz. UK/Hong Kong/New Zealand setup edition is not US electrical or telecom proof. Body 15.1 W×15.4 D×10.8 H in,23.4 lb with cartridge, not operating-clearance envelope.
