LaserJet 4000T (C4119A; documented US low-voltage configuration)Illustrated overview
A useful fit for

A compatible legacy parallel computer needing different ordinary paper stocks ready in separate trays.

The main tradeoff

Requires a genuine legacy host, correct cable and driver. No included USB, Ethernet server, scanner or automatic duplex.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can a prepared legacy parallel computer use the 4000T with 600 ordinary A4 sheets?

Qualifies with earlier references enabled and connection left flexible. It requires an actual compatible parallel host, correct cable and driver; the included 100 plus two 250-sheet inputs support ordinary A4.

Explore this need in the finder →
Does the T configuration satisfy an Ethernet connection requirement?

Fails included Ethernet. The standard 4000T provides parallel and serial interfaces; a JetDirect server is optional.

Explore this need in the finder →
Will the included printer turn sheets automatically?

Fails automatic duplex. C4123A is a separate hardware option, and the two lower paper trays do not supply that mechanism.

Two lower paper stocks for a compatible legacy computer

The HP LaserJet 4000T makes its case through paper separation. Two included 250-sheet lower trays can keep different supported stocks ready, while the 100-sheet front input handles another suitable medium. It suits a deliberately maintained legacy computer installation. The important restriction is connection: this T configuration has parallel and serial interfaces, with networking and automatic duplex equipment sold separately.

The exact HP US product record identifies C4119A and explicitly says discontinued. This is an earlier US low-voltage reference, with no claim of current availability. The original electrical specification separates a 100–127-volt, 50–60-Hz version from a 220–240-volt regional version. Verify the actual machine rating before installation.

The T suffix does not include the TN network card

HP's configuration page gives the 4000T 4 MB RAM and two 250-sheet trays. Its technical data specifically groups the base 4000 and 4000T under the included bidirectional IEEE 1284 parallel and nine-pin RS-232 serial interfaces. The JetDirect server is an option for this model; its appearance in the same brochure does not make it standard.

The documented normal arrangement here uses a genuinely compatible legacy parallel computer, the correct cable and a compatible printer driver. Leaving connection flexible can include this earlier reference; selecting USB, Ethernet or wireless cannot. No unverified USB converter or optional network purchase is assumed.

PCL 6, PCL 5e and PostScript Level 2 emulation are documented printer languages. Period Windows, Macintosh and other system lists still require checking the actual host, port and driver. They do not promise that a current computer can be plugged in and used immediately. AirPrint, Mopria and PIN-held release remain unconfirmed.

Three inputs still total 600 ordinary sheets

Tray 1 holds 100 ordinary sheets and the two lower inputs hold 250 each, for 600 total at the original 20-lb/75-g/m² basis. This is the same aggregate count as a one-large-tray configuration, with a different division between sources. An optional additional 500-sheet feeder is not included in that total.

The exact T/TN paper table lists Letter, Legal and A4 for each lower tray, and those ordinary sizes also fit the front tray's supported range. Set the lower guides for the selected size and match the software's size and type settings. Where the trays contain different paper, select the intended source rather than assuming every visible stack is interchangeable.

Preprinted ordinary paper goes face up with its top short edge toward the printer in Tray 1. In the lower trays it goes face down with the top toward the user. This source-specific orientation matters when stationery needs to land on the correct side.

For supported envelopes, Tray 1 accepts up to ten. Keep its extension unextended, open and extend the rear output bin, place the print face up and the postage end toward the printer, and adjust the guides. Select the actual envelope size and appropriate type in the compatible driver. The optional 75-envelope feeder does not change the included arrangement.

Optional duplex is a hardware question

HP identifies C4123A as a separate automatic duplex assembly. The original standard 4000T therefore does not qualify when unattended two-sided printing is essential. Verify a particular unit's attached hardware and driver configuration separately if that accessory is offered.

The printer is monochrome and print-only. It has no document scanner, feeder, flatbed, copier or fax, regardless of communication software. HP rates the engine at up to 17 one-sided Letter pages per minute, separately 16 A4; these are declared figures rather than hands-on measurements.

Keep supplies, workload and installation limits in view

The original technical data gives a maximum monthly duty of 65,000 pages. A recommended monthly range is not established, so the maximum does not stand in for a routine workload recommendation. Original C4127A and C4127X declarations are approximately 6,000 and 10,000 pages respectively, using the guide's historical 5%-coverage, density-three, EconoMode-off conditions. No current toner remainder or live printing cost is promised.

Width is consistently 15.4 inches in the original sources. Other dimensional and weight presentations differ, including inconsistent height unit conversions, so strict depth, height and weight requirements remain unconfirmed. Allow front and rear access, cables and cartridge clearance. Choose the 4000T for verified legacy-host printing and separated paper stocks; required modern connectivity or included automatic duplex needs different documented equipment.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

HP explicitly rates the 4000 series at up to 17 one-sided Letter ppm, separately 16 A4. These are maker figures, not measurements or duplex speed. Original HP technical data 5966-4742EUC declares a 65,000-page maximum monthly duty. A recommended monthly range is unconfirmed; the maximum is not substituted for recommendation.

Paper handling

Exact 4000T includes genuine 100-sheet Tray 1 plus two 250-sheet lower trays, total 600 ordinary 20-lb/75-g/m² sheets, not 1,100. Each exact T lower tray explicitly supports Letter/Legal/A4; those ordinary sizes also fit Tray 1. Front ordinary stock face up/top toward printer; lower stock face down/top toward user. Match guides, source, size and type. Tray 1 envelopes up to ten, face up/postage end toward printer, front extension unextended and rear output open/extended. Extra 500-sheet feeder, 75-envelope feeder and C4123A automatic duplex assembly are optional and excluded.

Scanning arrangement

Original monochrome print-only hardware has no document scanner, flatbed, feeder, copier or fax. JetSend device communication does not give this printer a physical document scanner.

Computer and mobile connections

Exact 4000T has IEEE 1284 parallel and RS-232 serial. Normal plan requires a genuine compatible legacy parallel computer, correct cable and compatible driver. No included USB or JetDirect Ethernet server, no Wi-Fi arrangement established, and no USB converter assumed. Original optional-server descriptions belong to expansion, not the standard T configuration.

Supplies and declared yields

Original ordering table identifies C4127A at approximately 6,000 and C4127X at approximately 10,000 pages. The user guide describes historical life on Letter/A4 at 5% coverage, density three and EconoMode disabled. These are maker declarations, not an ISO test established here or a remaining-toner guarantee. The historical original package claim does not establish the cartridge now fitted to a discontinued unit. No current price or cost per page.

Software and support

Original PCL 6, PCL 5e and PostScript Level 2 emulation depend on a correctly installed compatible driver. Period Windows, Macintosh and network lists do not guarantee a current operating system. C4123A automatic duplex assembly is an optional purchase, not included; optional hard-disk or control-panel features do not establish included PIN-held document release. AirPrint and Mopria remain unconfirmed.

Electrical edition and setup

Exact US model identity plus original documented 100–127-V 50–60-Hz configuration, separate from the 220–240-V regional edition. Verify the individual rating plate; no universal-voltage or unverified option-code promise. Original guide and HP brochure agree on 15.4-inch width. Height labels contain inconsistent inch/cm conversions, and depth/weight presentations differ between original editions, so strict depth, height and weight remain unknown. Allow front loading, rear output, cables and cartridge access beyond closed body dimensions.
