Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can a standard 4300dtn automatically duplex Legal over Ethernet with 1,100 included sheets and PIN release?
Qualifies with earlier references enabled, the original feeders and duplexer present, suitable paper, closed rear output and a supporting driver. The documented normal Legal capacity is 1,100.
Explore this need in the finder →Does its faster engine and 200,000-page duty rating establish a recommended 10,000-page monthly workload?
Fails that selected essential. A recommended monthly maximum was not established; maximum duty and speed are not substituted for it.
Explore this need in the finder →Can a computer use direct USB without additional interface hardware?
Fails. The included network and parallel connections do not supply a standard USB port.
Explore this need in the finder →A complete wired package for larger two-sided jobs
The HP LaserJet 4300dtn combines the faster 4300 monochrome engine with included networking, extra paper input and an automatic duplexer. It is an earlier workgroup configuration, assessed here specifically as the documented 110–127-volt version. HP's US support site retains the exact 4300dtn model identity. The article does not claim an independently verified US SKU suffix or substitute a refurbished base-model product number.
This is the version to assess when automatic two-sided documents and fewer paper refills are both important. The hardware remains print only, with no scanner, document feeder, independent copier or fax. A print-job copy count repeats a computer file; it does not capture a paper original. Incoming-paperwork processing therefore needs another device or a different printer category.
Included trays and the duplexer have separate limits
The dtn configuration includes a 100-sheet multipurpose tray and two 500-sheet trays, giving 1,100 standard sheets. Letter, Legal and A4 are explicitly supported in each relevant tray table at the stated normal-paper capacities. This is the included arrangement; the family's 2,600-sheet expansion figure depends on optional hardware and is not the standard dtn capacity.
The rear automatic duplexer also supports Letter, Legal and A4. Enable the installed duplex unit in a compatible driver and select the correct paper and binding. Keep the rear output bin closed, because opening it disables automatic duplex. The output path's operational requirements matter even when the job arrives successfully over the network.
Use suitable ordinary paper for duplex work. The guide's operating instructions exclude labels, transparencies, envelopes, custom sizes and paper heavier than 105 g/m². Its appendix lists a broader weight limit, so the stricter operating instruction is retained for the practical routine. Tray 1 can feed up to ten laser-compatible envelopes separately; that is not a promise to duplex envelopes or load the same number as plain sheets.
Network printing, PIN release and realistic volume
Standard Jetdirect 10/100Base-TX Ethernet provides the wired sharing route, and a legacy parallel port is also present. USB, Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi Direct are not standard interfaces. Neither AirPrint nor Mopria was established from the read primary material. A network printer and a modern mobile printing endpoint should not be treated as equivalent without the supported protocol and device arrangement.
For confidential jobs, the original manual supports a four-digit Private Job PIN submitted in a compatible driver and entered at the panel to release output. Temporary private jobs are deleted after release or power-off. Permanently stored forms use the separate Stored Job feature, which requires an optional hard disk. Confirm both the intended driver control and installed options when inspecting an older machine.
HP's maximum speed is 45 one-sided Letter pages per minute, separately 43 A4. These are manufacturer figures, not a measurement of the offered unit or a two-sided rate. The 200,000-page monthly duty cycle is a maximum reference. No applicable recommended monthly range was established, so a selected sustained-volume requirement is not qualified by substituting duty cycle.
The assembled machine needs room and a condition check
The included feeder and duplexer make the dtn larger than a base or n configuration. Its closed dimensions are approximately 16.2 inches wide, 20.5 deep and 19.2 high. The original guide lists 66 pounds without the print cartridge. Allow top-cover, tray and rear access on a sturdy surface; the dimensions of a smaller photographed family member are not a reliable installation plan.
The correct toner is Q1339A, with a historical estimate around 18,000 text pages at five-percent coverage, density three and EconoMode off. That is not an ISO yield, a current cost-per-page calculation or evidence of remaining cartridge life. Check the actual supplies and configuration pages, both large paper feeders, sample print quality and a real two-sided job before depending on the unit.
Verify a current compatible driver and functioning Jetdirect network card. Confirm the rating label is the reviewed 110–127-volt, 50/60-Hz version; 220–240-volt models are separate. A complete 4300dtn can still serve a defined wired monochrome workflow when its included Legal-capable duplex and paper capacity are useful, and the actual machine's condition justifies using this earlier platform.

Paper, software and setup details
Print-rate conditions
HP declares up to 45 one-sided Letter pages per minute, separately 43 A4. Not a newly measured result or automatic-duplex rate. The 200,000-page monthly duty cycle is a maximum; a recommended monthly range is not established.
Paper handling
Exact dtn row includes 100-sheet Tray 1, two 500-sheet trays and automatic duplexer: 1,100 standard Letter/Legal/A4 sheets at 75 g/m². Duplex sizes confirmed. Keep rear output closed; use stricter page 65 limit 105 g/m² versus appendix 120, and no duplex envelopes/labels/transparencies/custom stock. Optional 2,600-sheet expansion and 75-envelope feeder excluded.
Scanning arrangement
This is monochrome print-only hardware, with no scanner glass, document feeder, independent copier or fax. A job-storage copy count repeats computer output rather than copying a paper original.
Computer and mobile connections
Included Jetdirect 10/100Base-TX Ethernet and IEEE 1284 parallel. No standard USB or wireless. Supported-driver duplex and Private Job release are documented; AirPrint/Mopria are unconfirmed.
Supplies and declared yields
Correct 4300-series HP Q1339A cartridge: historical declaration about 18,000 text pages at 5% coverage, density 3 and EconoMode off. This is not relabeled as ISO/IEC 19752 or remaining toner. Q1338A is the different 4200-series cartridge.
Software and support
Confirm a currently compatible driver and actual installed options. Supported Private Job uses a four-digit panel-release PIN and temporary RAM storage, deleted after release or power-off. Permanent Stored Job needs an optional hard disk. AirPrint and Mopria are not established.
Electrical edition and setup
This review is limited to the exact model’s documented 110–127 V, 50/60 Hz configuration with independent HP US model identity. The 220–240 V edition is separate. Check the physical rating label under the top cover. An exact US #ABA SKU crosswalk was not established and is not claimed.
