Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can the original 4300n share Legal printing over Ethernet with 600 standard sheets and a four-digit private-job PIN?
Qualifies with earlier references enabled and a supporting driver. The n row includes Jetdirect Ethernet; both standard trays support Legal and the original private-job routine releases by panel PIN.
Explore this need in the finder →Does its network suffix also supply an automatic A4 duplexer?
Fails. The n configuration has networking but its automatic duplexer remains optional.
Explore this need in the finder →Does Ethernet establish a usable Mopria printing plan?
Fails the selected Mopria requirement because no exact supported Mopria arrangement was established. Ordinary compatible-driver Ethernet printing remains supported.
Explore this need in the finder →Wired sharing is the useful change in this configuration
The HP LaserJet 4300n adds standard network connectivity to an earlier, fast monochrome workgroup engine. It is worth considering for an office that wants a shared wired printer and can inspect the actual condition of the machine. This review covers the documented 110–127-volt configuration, with the exact 4300n identity independently retained on HP's US support site. It does not promote a different refurbished SKU or assume that every regional product number has been verified.
The n package includes an HP Jetdirect 10/100Base-TX card. A compatible computer can reach it over Ethernet, while the original parallel port remains available for a suitable legacy setup. Standard USB and wireless connections are not included. A wireless laptop can be part of a suitable shared network without the printer having a wireless radio, but that does not establish AirPrint, Mopria or Wi-Fi Direct support.
Understand what the n package does not add
The paper arrangement stays at 600 standard sheets: a 100-sheet multipurpose tray and a 500-sheet enclosed tray. Both explicitly support Letter, Legal and A4 under the original normal-paper capacity tables. This can suit a central queue for reports and forms without the larger stack of feeder hardware included in a tn or dtn package.
Automatic duplex is not included on the 4300n. Its rear duplex accessory is an optional addition, so an Ethernet port should not be mistaken for evidence of a two-sided paper path. When reviewing a seller's expanded unit, inspect the installed accessory and driver configuration. The standard configuration assessed here does not satisfy an automatic-duplex requirement merely because the family supports an attachment.
Tray 1 accepts up to ten envelopes in a separate routine with suitable laser media and correct driver settings. The optional 75-envelope feeder and optional output finishers are not counted. The large expansion figures in family advertising describe what can be built around the printer, not what the original n package necessarily contains.
Fast output still benefits from controlled release
HP specifies up to 45 one-sided Letter pages per minute, separately 43 A4. Neither figure is a measured result here or a two-sided throughput claim. For a shared workgroup, the practical benefit depends on the actual driver, document and working network, along with a unit that feeds paper and produces acceptable output consistently.
The original guide documents a useful Private Job routine: enter a four-digit PIN in a supporting print driver, then release the job at the printer panel. That can keep a sensitive document from appearing in a shared output bin before its owner arrives. The temporary job is deleted after printing or power-off. Permanent Stored Job operation is a different feature that requires an optional hard disk, so a disk should not be assumed from the presence of a private-print menu.
A maximum 200,000-page monthly duty cycle is documented, but a recommended monthly workload range was not established. The duty figure is not used as the recommendation. If a particular sustained monthly volume is essential, obtain a directly applicable recommendation rather than treating a fast engine or large cartridge as a complete workload answer.
Inspect the cartridge, network and physical setup
The 4300n uses Q1339A toner, historically declared around 18,000 pages of text at five-percent coverage, density three and EconoMode off. This basis differs from an ISO yield declaration. It also says nothing about remaining toner in a supplied cartridge. The adjacent 4200-series Q1338A entry in the same manual is a different cartridge and is not the one credited here.
Ask for configuration and supplies-status pages, a working Ethernet connection and sample output. Confirm a currently compatible driver, including the controls needed for Private Job. The old operating-system list in the original guide is a historical reference, not a blanket promise for a current computer environment.
The cabinet is approximately 16.2 inches wide, 17.3 deep and 14.4 high, at 46 pounds without the print cartridge. Reserve a sturdy surface and room to open the top, trays and rear access. Check the physical 110–127-volt, 50/60-Hz rating label rather than taking an English manual or a model name as evidence of universal voltage. A complete 4300n is most convincing when the job is wired monochrome sharing and standard automatic duplex or scanning is not essential.

Paper, software and setup details
Print-rate conditions
HP declares up to 45 one-sided Letter pages per minute, separately 43 A4. Not a newly measured result or automatic-duplex rate. The 200,000-page monthly duty cycle is a maximum; a recommended monthly range is not established.
Paper handling
4300n includes 100-sheet Tray 1 and 500-sheet Tray 2, total 600 Letter/Legal/A4 sheets at documented 75 g/m². Automatic duplex and extra input/finishing are optional. Tray 1 accepts ten envelopes; the 75-envelope feeder is excluded.
Scanning arrangement
This is monochrome print-only hardware, with no scanner glass, document feeder, independent copier or fax. A job-storage copy count repeats computer output rather than copying a paper original.
Computer and mobile connections
Exact n configuration includes Jetdirect 10/100Base-TX Ethernet alongside IEEE 1284 parallel. No standard USB, Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi Direct. AirPrint and Mopria arrangements remain unconfirmed rather than inferred from network capability.
Supplies and declared yields
Correct 4300-series HP Q1339A cartridge: historical declaration about 18,000 text pages at 5% coverage, density 3 and EconoMode off. This is not relabeled as ISO/IEC 19752 or remaining toner. Q1338A is the different 4200-series cartridge.
Software and support
Confirm a currently compatible driver and actual installed options. Supported Private Job uses a four-digit panel-release PIN and temporary RAM storage, deleted after release or power-off. Permanent Stored Job needs an optional hard disk. AirPrint and Mopria are not established.
Electrical edition and setup
This review is limited to the exact model’s documented 110–127 V, 50/60 Hz configuration with independent HP US model identity. The 220–240 V edition is separate. Check the physical rating label under the top cover. An exact US #ABA SKU crosswalk was not established and is not claimed.
