A wired printer with a documented 55-ppm Letter rating

The HP LaserJet 4350n suits a prepared computer network producing ordinary monochrome documents within HP's exact 5,000–20,000-page monthly recommendation. It includes embedded Ethernet and a normal 600-sheet paper supply. The deciding limit is automatic duplex: the n needs an optional mechanism, while its standard two-sided routine requires manual reloading.

HP's exact US product page identifies Q5407A#ABA and marks the printer discontinued. The actual original US n column confirms the embedded network server, 80 MB memory and two standard inputs. This review covers that documented low-voltage earlier configuration without promising current stock, condition or software support for a present computer.

Set up a compatible computer on the wired network

The embedded JetDirect server connects through 10/100Base-TX Ethernet. The original network installation checks a printed configuration page and finds the IP address on its second page before setting up the compatible computer driver. This is wired Fast Ethernet; optional Gigabit and wireless servers are different hardware.

Hi-Speed USB 2.0 and IEEE 1284B parallel are also included. For the original Windows direct arrangement, install software before connecting the chosen cable, exclude Windows NT 4.0 from USB and do not connect USB and parallel simultaneously. The exact support record says the USB cable is separately purchased.

Historic PCL, PostScript and operating-system lists do not guarantee present compatibility. Original direct PDF needs at least 128 MB, above the n's 80 MB. The Jetlink port serves paper-handling accessories rather than a computer network. No included Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, AirPrint or Mopria arrangement is established.

Match the paper supply to the actual n configuration

The included 100-sheet front and 500-sheet lower inputs provide 600 ordinary 20-lb/75-g/m² sheets. Both explicitly support Letter, Legal and A4. The tn and dtn packages include another 500-sheet input; their 1,100-sheet figure is excluded here, as is the expanded 3,100-sheet optional maximum.

Set the lower side and rear guides to the actual paper and its knob to Standard for a supported named size. Keep the stack flat below its height indicators and do not fan it. Extend the front support for ordinary sheets, center them beneath the guide tabs and let the guides touch without bending paper. Choose the same source, type and size in the job.

For ordinary one-sided letterhead, the front input takes the face up and top toward the printer; the lower input takes face down and top toward the user. Alternative Letterhead mode requires the documented two-sided orientation when the matching media type is selected. Optional stapler-induced rotation is excluded from this ordinary setup.

Manual duplex remains a separate attended routine

Enable manual duplex in the compatible Windows driver and choose Print on Both Sides (Manually). After first sides print, remove blank paper from Tray 1 and reload the printed stack there blank side up, top edge first. Press Select if the panel requests it.

All second sides feed through Tray 1, so longer documents need repeated batches despite the lower tray's larger supply. The original period Mac OS X arrangement does not support manual duplex, while Mac OS 9 needs the described plug-in. The documented procedure does not meet an automatic-duplex requirement or guarantee current software behavior.

Supported envelopes use up to ten face up in Tray 1 with postage end toward the printer. Normally leave its extension in unless oversize envelopes need it, open the rear output for the straight path and select the real envelope settings. The optional 75-envelope feeder is excluded; envelopes must not be printed on both sides.

Use temporary Private Job rather than assume a hard disk

The original guide documents a four-digit PIN assigned through a compatible computer driver's Private Job control. At the panel, open Retrieve Job, choose the user and job, select Print and enter the PIN. The normal temporary arrangement needs RAM-disk AUTO and enough free memory; the original no-hard-disk control requires at least 8 MB available. Complex jobs may need more memory.

Power-off deletes temporary jobs, and private jobs normally delete after release. Duplicate default names can replace a previous job. Permanent Stored Job storage requires an optional hard disk and is excluded. PIN-held release does not establish encrypted transmission, unlimited storage or a permanent archive.

Keep ratings and body measurements on their stated basis

The manufacturer declares up to 55 one-sided Letter pages per minute and separately 52 A4. These are not tests here or duplex speeds. The 250,000-page maximum monthly duty is separate from the exact 5,000–20,000 recommendation. This print-only machine includes no scanner, flatbed, feeder, copier or fax.

The closed body measures 16.5 inches wide, 17.8 deep and 14.8 high. The guide specifies 44.5 pounds without the cartridge; the brochure rounds to 45. Allow loading, output and cartridge access beyond the body, verify the actual 110–127-V, 50/60-Hz plate and inspect installed supplies. Replacement yields do not reveal remaining toner or current cost.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Exact 4350n scope declares up to 55 one-sided Letter ppm, separately 52 A4, not measured or duplex speed. Exact n support recommends 5,000–20,000 monthly pages. Original 250,000 maximum duty is distinct.

Paper handling

Exact n includes front 100 plus lower 500 ordinary 20-lb/75-g/m² Letter/Legal/A4 sheets, total 600. Third tray/3,100 maximum and automatic duplexer optional. Set lower guides/Standard knob, stack flat below limits and do not fan. Compatible Windows manual duplex uses Print on Both Sides (Manually), then second sides only in Tray 1 blank side up/top first and Select if prompted; repeated batches. Period Mac OS X manual duplex unsupported. Up to ten envelopes use front face up/postage first, extension normally in, rear output open; optional 75-envelope feeder excluded. One-sided versus Alternative Letterhead orientation remains job-specific.

Scanning arrangement

Actual original hardware is a monochrome print-only printer without a scanner, flatbed, automatic document feeder, copy function or fax. A reference to scanning a page into a RAM disk concerns printer job processing, not document-capture hardware. Printer-management e-mail alerts and third-party forms software add no scanner or fax modem.

Computer and mobile connections

Exact 4350n includes embedded JetDirect 10/100Base-TX Ethernet, Hi-Speed USB 2.0 and IEEE 1284B parallel. Compatible computer network driver uses configuration-page IP address. Original direct Windows software precedes chosen cable, NT 4.0 USB excluded and USB/parallel not simultaneous. Exact support says USB cable separately purchased. Wireless/Gigabit/Bluetooth optional; Jetlink for paper handling, not Ethernet. AirPrint/Mopria/Wi-Fi Direct unconfirmed.

Supplies and declared yields

Original ordering identifies Q5942A and Q5942X replacement cartridges. The 2004 guide declares approximately 10,000 and 20,000 pages at historical 5% text coverage; the later US original declares the same counts with ISO/IEC 19752. These source bases stay distinct. An apparent C5942A typo in the brochure overview is not used as a cartridge identity. No installed remainder, current supplied full yield, price or cost per page is inferred.

Software and support

Use an actually compatible PCL/PostScript computer driver. Original Private Job assigns a four-digit PIN in the driver and releases it through panel Retrieve Job/user/job/Print/PIN. Normal temporary held printing uses enabled RAM disk with enough free memory; original RAM DISK default AUTO is available without a hard disk when at least 8 MB is free. Complex jobs may need more memory. Power-off deletes temporary private jobs and jobs normally delete after release; duplicate default names can replace a prior job. Permanent Stored Job needs an optional hard disk and is excluded. Original direct PDF 1.3 requires at least 128 MB, above the documented standard packages; no current driver, encryption or permanent archive promise.

Electrical edition and setup

Exact US Q5407A#ABA identity and original 110–127-V, 50/60-Hz edition, separate from 220–240 V; inspect plate and do not convert voltage. Closed n body is 16.5 W × 17.8 D × 14.8 H inches, guide weight 44.5 lb without cartridge versus brochure rounded 45 lb. Extra tray/duplexer and carton dimensions excluded. Allow loading, rear output, cables and cartridge access beyond body; inconsistent original open-depth metric/inch pair not promised. Exact n has 80 MB, below 128-MB direct-PDF prerequisite.
