A useful fit for

A prepared compatible wired computer network needing ordinary A3 or Tabloid printing with 850 included sheets.

The main tradeoff

Second sides need front-tray reloading. The taller three-input package still lacks the optional PIN-storage hard disk, and exact depth is unresolved.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can the normal tn print A3 over Ethernet with 850 ordinary sheets for 10,000 monthly pages?

Qualifies with earlier references enabled and an actual compatible computer network driver. All three included inputs support A3 and total 850 nominal ordinary sheets; the recommended monthly range reaches 10,000.

More included paper for a wired wide-format office

The HP LaserJet 5200tn combines an embedded wired network interface with three included paper inputs. Its nominal 850 ordinary sheets can reduce refilling for A3 or Tabloid printing as well as Letter, Legal and A4. The deciding limitation is manual duplex: the third tray increases available paper but does not turn pages automatically.

The exact HP US product page identifies Q7545A#ABA and marks the model discontinued. This review covers its documented 110–127-V configuration as an earlier reference, without promising a particular used unit's condition, current stock or software support. Independent original model columns establish the tn package; an inconsistent selection-guide label pairing Q7545A with n does not change that identity.

Set up all three inputs rather than relying on the total

The front input holds 100 ordinary sheets, the next 250 and the included third input 500. The actual media columns positively support Letter, Legal, A4, A3 and 11-by-17-inch Tabloid in the front and lower inputs. The 850-sheet capacity for a selected size assumes the inputs all contain that ordinary size. Loading mixed formats divides the total rather than creating 850 sheets of each.

Release the standard lower tray's rear extension lock for long paper, set the width and length guides, and match both its size switch and dial to the stack. Set the third input's rear and side guides, keep the sheets flat below its loading indicators and set its own size controls. Long paper and rear access need room beyond the closed small-paper footprint.

No particular paper weight was established as the basis for the nominal sheet count. Separate ordinary-media limits are 60–199 g/m² for the front input and 60–120 for the lower inputs. Thicker media can reduce actual capacity. The presence of a wide paper path also does not mean that every special medium can use every tray or a duplexer.

Use the included Ethernet with a compatible computer

The tn's embedded interface is 10Base-T/100Base-TX Ethernet. The original setup describes using its network address with an actual compatible computer driver, including manual IP address, subnet-mask and gateway configuration where needed. Check that arrangement with your real computer and network; an earlier wired port alone does not establish current driverless installation.

Hi-Speed USB 2.0 provides another computer route, and IEEE 1284 parallel supports a suitable legacy host. A correct cable and usable driver remain necessary. The USB computer port is not a promise of direct USB-stick jobs. Optional wireless equipment is excluded, while AirPrint, Mopria and Wi-Fi Direct remain unconfirmed.

Budget time and batches for second sides

The normal tn does not include the automatic duplexer. The compatible Windows-driver procedure prints first sides, then requires the returned stack in the front input blank side up with its top edge first. Remove unused blank paper from Tray 1 before returning the printed stack, and press the panel selection button if requested.

HP specifies Tray 1 for those second sides, even when the first sides came from a lower input. The front 100-sheet limit therefore governs each returned batch. An 850-sheet supply can keep first sides moving, but the two-sided job still needs a person to reload it. The dtn's included automatic mechanism is a meaningful different configuration.

For one-sided letterhead in the lower inputs, the guide uses face down with the top short edge toward the user. Front orientation differs by paper size, so follow the actual diagram for Letter/A4 versus Legal/A3/Tabloid. Up to ten supported envelopes use the front face up, postage end away from the printer, with the rear output open and extended. Envelope capacity is separate from the 850 ordinary sheets.

Storage requirements matter more than a generic PIN menu

The original private/stored-job chapter explicitly requires an installed hard drive. The drive is optional rather than included in this tn package, so the reviewed arrangement does not qualify for PIN-held printing. Its standard 64 MB, the documented RAM-disk control and a PIN menu elsewhere do not establish the required storage hardware.

This is a monochrome print-only device. There is no scanner, flatbed, document feeder, copy function or fax. Printer-management e-mail alerts and extra paper hardware do not add document capture.

Keep the recommended load and installation space realistic

The recommended monthly range is 2,500–10,000 pages, distinct from the 65,000-page maximum duty. HP declares up to 35 one-sided Letter pages per minute, separately 35 A4 and 18.5 A3 or Tabloid. Those figures are source declarations rather than tests, duplex rates or guarantees of a surviving machine's throughput.

The closed tn is 19.3 inches wide and 15.9 high, with guide weight 66.5 pounds without the cartridge. Its original guide and brochure disagree on closed depth, so a single precise depth is left unconfirmed. Measure the actual assembly, allow tray and rear-output access, and verify the 110–127-V, 50/60-Hz plate. The original Q7516A replacement yield does not establish installed remainder, current price or cost per page.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Original HP technical sources declare up to 35 one-sided Letter pages per minute, separately 35 A4 and 18.5 Tabloid/A3. These are manufacturer declarations, not measurements or duplex throughput. The recommended 2,500–10,000 monthly range is distinct from the 65,000-page maximum duty.

Paper handling

Exact tn includes front 100, lower 250 and third 500, nominal 850 ordinary sheets. All actual ordinary size columns support Letter, Legal, A4, A3 and Tabloid. Full selected-size count assumes all relevant inputs contain that size. No particular weight basis for the nominal count is established; ordinary front range 60–199 g/m², lower 60–120, with heavier stock reducing the stack. Set long-tray rear extension, width/rear guides, size switches and dials. Automatic duplexer is optional. Manual second sides return only through front Tray 1, blank side up/top first, with panel selection if prompted; repeated 100-sheet batches. Up to ten envelopes use front face up/postage end away and open, extended rear output.

Scanning arrangement

The actual original 5200 hardware is a monochrome print-only printer. No flatbed, document feeder, scan-to-computer hardware, copy function or fax is included. Printer e-mail alerts do not add document scanning or fax.

Computer and mobile connections

Exact tn includes embedded 10Base-T/100Base-TX Ethernet, Hi-Speed USB 2.0 and IEEE 1284 parallel. Use a compatible computer driver and actual network address; original guide explains manual IP/subnet/gateway where needed. USB is a computer interface without established flash-drive workflow. Wireless is optional; AirPrint, Mopria and Wi-Fi Direct are unconfirmed.

Supplies and declared yields

Original ordering identifies Q7516A. The original guide and technical sheet declare approximately 12,000 pages under ISO/IEC 19752; a separate historical replacement-interval table uses approximately 5% coverage. These bases stay separate. No remaining installed toner, guaranteed current supplied yield, stock, price or cost per page is inferred.

Software and support

Use an actually compatible computer driver. The original job-storage chapter explicitly requires an installed hard drive for stored/private PIN jobs; the EIO hard disk is optional and excluded from these normal packages. A generic PIN menu and RAM-disk setting do not establish included PIN-held printing. No present-day driver, driverless printing, AirPrint, Mopria or Wi-Fi Direct promise is inferred.

Electrical edition and setup

Exact US Q7545A#ABA identity/discontinued and original low-voltage 110–127-V, 50/60-Hz configuration. Verify actual plate and driver; do not convert the separate high-voltage edition. Closed width 19.3 inches, height 15.9, guide weight 66.5 lb without cartridge. Guide depth 21 inches conflicts with original brochure 23.6, so exact depth remains unconfirmed. Allow long-tray, rear-output, cable and cartridge access. Exact tn has 64 MB, without the optional PIN-storage hard disk. Independent ordering corrects selection-guide Q7545A/n typo.
