Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can compatible Ethernet black Tabloid work use 600 standard input sheets?
Qualifies with earlier references enabled. Tray 1 and Tray 3 support Tabloid, giving 600 ordinary sheets; Tray 2 does not add another 500 for that size.
Explore this need in the finder →Will its included hardware automatically turn Legal reports?
Fails. The automatic duplex unit is optional on the n; the DN configuration includes it.
Explore this need in the finder →Can a USB computer print through a standard included USB port?
Fails. The original ports establish Ethernet and a legacy parallel interface, with no standard computer USB connection. A converter is not assumed.

The LaserJet 8000n suits an existing office that needs wide-format monochrome documents and already has compatible desktop software. Its included network server is useful, but the deciding detail is paper capacity: the standard 1,100-sheet total applies to ordinary Letter, Legal and A4, while A3 and Tabloid have a smaller 600-sheet total.
HP's exact US C4086A#ABA reference is explicitly discontinued. Treat this as an earlier configuration assessment, with the actual machine, cables, supply condition and electrical plate checked before relying on it. A surviving guide does not establish current stock, a remaining service life or effortless compatibility with a new computer.
The n includes Ethernet, while duplex needs an accessory
The original configuration list identifies a Jetdirect 600N internal 10/100Base-TX print server. Confirm the installed card and its network settings, then verify a real desktop document through the intended queue. For a shared printer, include paper-source selection in that check; a successful small test page alone does not settle larger-document handling.
The machine also has a legacy parallel connection. That requires suitable computer hardware and the correct cable. Its original rear-port list does not establish a computer USB port, and this review does not assume that a USB converter will provide a complete working substitute. AirPrint and Mopria remain unconfirmed.
Automatic duplex is optional on this n. The original DN package adds the duplexer, so general family instructions for turning sheets cannot be treated as standard n hardware. If automatic two-sided reports are essential, inspect the actual accessory configuration or choose a documented equipped model.
Count the tray that takes your actual paper
Tray 1 holds up to 100 ordinary sheets and the two cassettes hold 500 each. The original per-tray table lists Letter, Legal and A4 in all three sources. For A3 and 11-by-17-inch Tabloid, only Tray 1 and Tray 3 count. Tray 2 cannot contribute another 500 merely because it resembles the lower cassette.
That difference changes refill planning. An office using large worksheets should judge the 600-sheet configuration, while one alternating ordinary office sizes can make different use of the cassettes. Decide which stock belongs in each source and make the software settings match; an aggregate capacity number cannot describe that arrangement by itself.
Envelopes use a separate one-sided routine through Tray 1 and the left output. The optional larger envelope feeder is another accessory. Confirm the intended envelope construction with a small sample before assigning a mailing job, and do not count an envelope stack as an ordinary paper capacity.
Installation and software deserve their own check
The original n weighs 106 pounds without its toner cartridge. Plan a suitable support and loading and service access rather than judging its fit from a single diagram dimension. The source diagrams show different extended positions, so this assessment leaves a closed body bounding box unconfirmed.
Electrical specifications describe regional editions. The exact US identity is established, but this does not replace reading the plate on an actual offered machine. Similarly, period installation examples explain the original workflow rather than promising support for every current operating system.
This is a print-only configuration. A separately documented MFP upgrade does not give the standard n a scanner, copy platen or fax. If documents must be captured as well as printed, compare a complete multifunction configuration with positively supported computer-scanning routes.
Use the declared rate with a realistic workload
HP's original service information separates 24 ppm Letter/A4 from the slower large-paper rates. The 130,000-image monthly duty maximum is not a recommended sustained workload; no recommended monthly range was established here. These are manufacturer declarations, not timings or endurance results measured for this review.
The original toner-life statement uses five-percent text coverage, density 3 and EconoMode off, rather than an invented ISO comparison. Check actual supplies and maintenance support alongside the printer. Choose the 8000n when its wired black-document role is proven and its optional-duplex and size-dependent capacity limits fit the work.

Paper, software and setup details
Print-rate conditions
Original Service Manual Table 1-1 specifies 24 ppm Letter/A4, 13 Ledger/A3 and 15 Legal/B4; the 130,000-image monthly duty maximum is not a recommended workload. No measured timing or automatic-duplex rate attributed to the unequipped n.
Paper handling
Exact N includes 100-sheet Tray 1 and two 500-sheet cassettes. Original per-tray table supports Letter/Legal/A4 in all three (1,100), but A3/Tabloid only in Tray 1 and Tray 3 (600). Stack weight basis is not independently established; cassette supported weight is 60–105 g/m². Tray 1 accepts up to ten suitable envelopes, one-sided, with left output; optional 100-envelope feeder and extra trays excluded. Automatic duplexer C4782A is optional.
Scanning arrangement
Exact N is a monochrome print-only configuration. Separately listed MFP upgrade hardware is not included; C-Link is a paper-handling connector, not a scanner.
Computer and mobile connections
Included internal Jetdirect 600N provides 10/100Base-TX Ethernet. Original complete rear parts list gives EIO slots, IEEE-1284 parallel, power and C-Link, with no computer USB port. Parallel needs a suitable legacy computer/cable; no converter or Wi-Fi accessory is invented.
Supplies and declared yields
Original guide declares about 15,000 text pages at five-percent coverage, print density 3 and EconoMode off; no ISO conversion or introductory yield established. Actual remaining toner, cartridge stock and running cost are not claimed.
Software and support
Original driver/application paper size and source settings can override panel settings. Check actual present desktop compatibility and TCP/IP configuration; old installation examples are not a current OS promise. AirPrint, Mopria and PIN-release support remain unknown rather than inferred from other LaserJets or optional storage.
Electrical edition and setup
Exact US C4086A#ABA discontinued identity is established. Original n weight is 106 lb without toner. Dimension diagrams include extended/open positions, so a closed body bounding box is not asserted. Original electrical section lists separate regional editions; verify actual unit plate, not a universal-input assumption.
