LaserJet 8150n (C4266A; US reference)Illustrated overview
A useful fit for

An established compatible wired desktop network needing larger black documents and able to support a substantial earlier printer.

The main tradeoff

The n package has no included automatic duplexer or computer USB port. Its standard paper total is smaller for A3/Tabloid, and modern software and the actual electrical edition need checking.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can compatible Ethernet black Tabloid jobs use 600 ordinary input sheets and a private-job PIN?

Qualifies with earlier references enabled and the supported desktop Private Job driver/panel routine. Tray 1 and Tray 3 supply Tabloid; temporary PIN jobs can use RAM without the optional disk.

Does the standard printer hold 1,100 ordinary A3 sheets?

Fails. Tray 2 does not list A3; only the 100-sheet bypass and 500-sheet Tray 3 count, giving 600 without optional expansion.

Can the standard n automatically duplex Legal reports?

Fails. Its duplexer is an optional accessory; the included unit belongs to dn and other equipped packages.

Read the paper sizes before the 1,100-sheet headline

The HP LaserJet 8150n is an earlier large-format monochrome printer for an established compatible wired office. It includes an HP Jetdirect network server, two 500-sheet cassettes and a 100-sheet multipurpose tray. Its useful paper total depends on size: Letter, Legal and A4 can use all three inputs, while A3 and Tabloid use only the multipurpose tray and one cassette.

HP's exact US C4266A reference is explicitly discontinued. This assessment does not invent a regional option code, current offer or remaining service life. It is a substantial print-only machine whose software, feeding, supplies and actual electrical plate should be checked before making it responsible for routine office work.

Included Ethernet serves a compatible desktop network

The original n configuration adds a Jetdirect EIO print server with a 10/100Base-TX RJ45 connection. Its setup instructions switch power off before connecting the network cable. Confirm the actual server, network settings and usable driver on the computers sending jobs. Successful network discovery alone does not establish correct paper selection or a complete document workflow.

Parallel is another legacy computer connection, using the specified IEEE-1284 cable. The original package note only includes that cable with the base 8150, so do not assume it accompanies an n. There is no documented standard computer USB route here, and no USB converter is invented to fill the gap.

The infrared accessory and other interface connectors are not built-in Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi Direct. AirPrint and Mopria remain unconfirmed. The separate 8150 MFP adds Digital Copy hardware; this n has no physical scanner, document feeder, copy glass or fax.

Standard capacity changes for larger pages

The original paper table lists Letter, Legal and A4 in Tray 1 and both standard cassettes, for 1,100 ordinary sheets. For A3 and 11-by-17-inch Tabloid, it lists Tray 1 and Tray 3, giving 600 sheets. Tray 2 should not be counted simply because it resembles the other cassette.

Set the guides and panel size settings for the actual stock, then match the driver selection. The original instructions distinguish long-edge office-paper loading from larger short-edge-fed pages. Tray 1 can also take priority until its panel mode is changed, which matters when it holds special stock beside a shared queue.

Up to ten envelopes use Tray 1 and the face-up output route. Labels and transparencies also require that designated route and one-sided handling. The larger dedicated envelope feeder, extra paper sources and finishing accessories are separate purchases rather than standard input.

The n has private jobs but no included automatic duplexer

The exact n package does not include the duplexer supplied with the dn. If reports must turn automatically, verify an actually installed compatible accessory or choose an equipped configuration. The family guide's duplex instructions do not make that hardware standard on every model.

Private printing is a different feature. The original guide explicitly allows a temporary Private Job in available RAM without an optional disk. A compatible driver assigns a four-digit PIN; the user selects the stored user/job at the panel and enters that PIN to release it. The job is deleted after release and lost if power is interrupted.

Quick Copy and permanent Stored Job use the optional disk and should not be confused with temporary PIN release. Verify the complete driver-to-panel routine with a representative document rather than treating a general security label as proof.

Rate, supplies and installation

The original engine declaration is 32 pages per minute on Letter or A4, with a 150,000-page monthly maximum duty figure. No recommended monthly range was established, so the maximum cannot justify a sustained workload target. These are manufacturer declarations, not timings measured for this review.

C4182X replacement toner is declared at about 20,000 pages under five-percent text coverage, density 3 and EconoMode off. That is not an ISO conversion or evidence of remaining toner. The original n weighs 112 pounds without its cartridge; provide a sturdy support and practical loading/service space. Choose it for proven wired black-document work, with its size-dependent input and optional-duplex boundary understood.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Original User Guide declares 32 ppm on Letter or ISO A4 and maximum duty 150,000 monthly pages on those sizes. No recommended monthly range established; maximum is not substituted. No A3/Tabloid, automatic-duplex or actual measured rate invented.

Paper handling

Included 100-sheet Tray 1 and two 500-sheet cassettes. Original exact source table gives Letter/Legal/A4 in all three (1,100 total); A3/Tabloid only Tray 1 and Tray 3 (600), not Tray 2. These are ordinary-paper capacities with stack weight basis unestablished; original recommends conventional 75-g/m² paper separately. Optional duplexer, extra feeders, dedicated envelope feeder and stacker excluded. Up to ten envelopes/labels/transparencies use Tray 1 and face-up output, one-sided. Tray 1 may take priority until its panel mode is changed.

Scanning arrangement

Exact n is a print-only monochrome laser. Original MFP adds a separate Digital Copy and copy-connect board, neither included here. C-Link/AUX/infrared connectors do not establish a physical scanner, original feeder, copy platen or fax.

Computer and mobile connections

Exact n includes an HP Jetdirect EIO server with 10/100Base-TX RJ45. Original actual setup powers off before attaching the network cable. Parallel is a separate legacy computer alternative using a suitable IEEE-1284 C-type cable; cable is only listed included on base 8150, not n. No standard computer USB, Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi Direct arrangement is established. An infrared accessory is not modern wireless networking.

Supplies and declared yields

Original C4182X replacement declares about 20,000 pages at 5-percent text coverage with density 3 and EconoMode off; no ISO basis invented. The package includes a toner cartridge without independently established introductory yield. Check the actual supply and maintenance condition; no remaining-life, stock or running-cost claim.

Software and support

Compatible desktop driver Private Job mode accepts a four-digit PIN. The original guide expressly supports it using available RAM without an optional hard disk; release uses Private/Stored Jobs, user/job and panel PIN. It is deleted after release and lost on power interruption. Quick Copy/permanent Stored Job requires the optional disk and is distinct. Actual present OS/network compatibility must be checked; AirPrint/Mopria remain unknown.

Electrical edition and setup

Exact US C4266A is explicitly discontinued without inventing #ABA. Original exact n weight is 112 lb without toner cartridge. Setup diagrams mix open positions rather than independently establishing a closed bounding box, so dimensions remain unknown. Provide a sturdy level support and loading/service room. Actual electrical plate and regional edition remain unconfirmed; no universal-voltage promise.
