LaserJet 9050dn (Q3723A; US reference)Illustrated overview
A useful fit for

An established compatible wired office needing larger black reports, substantial standard input and documented automatic two-sided handling.

The main tradeoff

The original setup confirms Ethernet and legacy parallel, without a standard computer USB route. Its 168-lb body excludes the cartridge, and larger feeders and finishing remain optional.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can compatible Ethernet black Tabloid reports automatically duplex with 1,100 input sheets and private-job PIN release?

Qualifies with earlier references enabled, supported ordinary paper and compatible desktop Job Storage software. The original temporary Private Job can use RAM without the optional disk.

Does the standard reviewed configuration provide a USB computer printing path?

Fails. The actual original interfaces/setup establish parallel and Ethernet; the later generic USB-cable field does not prove a standard USB port.

Does the base dn hold 3,100 ordinary Legal input sheets?

Fails. Its included total is 1,100. The additional 2,000-sheet feeder is a separate accessory.

An earlier large-format printer with the duplexer included

The HP LaserJet 9050dn fits an established compatible wired office producing black documents, including larger reports. Its exact Q3723A package includes the embedded network server, a 100-sheet multipurpose tray, two 500-sheet cassettes and an automatic duplex accessory. It is a print-only machine, with no scanner or fax.

HP marks the US reference discontinued. That is an earlier-model identification, not a current offer or a statement about an individual unit's remaining life. The printer is substantial, and the complete software, paper and installation routine deserves checking before its declared speed becomes the deciding factor.

Both standard cassettes accept larger ordinary pages

The original paper table lists Letter, Legal, A4, A3 and Tabloid in Tray 1 and both 500-sheet cassettes. The included total is therefore 1,100 ordinary sheets for each of those sizes. This specific table matters; similar-looking legacy models can have different size limits between their cassettes.

Set guides and paper settings to the actual stock, then check the driver's source, size and type. The optional 2,000-sheet feeder is additional equipment. A tall configuration photograph or a maximum expanded total should not add it to a normal dn package.

Envelopes use Tray 1 as a separate one-sided routine, with up to ten documented and the appropriate output route. Labels and transparencies also have their own instructions. Input trays, finished-paper bins and an optional stacker serve different purposes and should not be added together as one capacity.

Configure automatic duplex for the actual job

The exact dn includes the duplexer even though the shared guide calls it optional for the wider family. Its original size list covers these ordinary formats at 64–199 g/m². Envelopes, labels and transparencies are excluded from automatic duplex. Paper fitting an input is not sufficient evidence for every two-sided material.

The original procedure checks that the driver recognizes the duplexer, loads stock in the appropriate orientation and selects printing on both sides. Binding and orientation can be set through the supported software or relevant panel controls. Inspect a short complete report, including any covers and landscape pages, before a longer unattended run.

Ethernet is the established named connection

The supplied embedded Jetdirect provides 10/100TX Ethernet. The setup guide disconnects power before attaching its RJ45 cable. Parallel is another legacy computer alternative using the specified IEEE-1284 B-type cable. Confirm a compatible driver and the actual network arrangement rather than assuming a historical software list guarantees current support.

The complete original interface diagram lists parallel, LAN and a paper-handling connector. It does not establish a standard computer USB socket. A later generic instruction to buy a USB cable is insufficient to create that route. Wireless servers are optional accessories, and no included Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, AirPrint or Mopria arrangement is promised here.

Temporary private jobs can use available RAM

The original guide explicitly allows Private Job without an optional hard disk. Compatible desktop software assigns a user name, job name and four-digit PIN; the user retrieves the job at the printer and enters the PIN to release it. This is an actual documented driver-to-panel process, rather than an inference from a security badge.

Temporary jobs are lost when power is turned off. Persistent storage and disk-based functions are different arrangements, so verify the intended behavior before relying on it for sensitive work. A printer access password is also separate from protecting an individual submitted job.

Plan workload and the whole installation

The declared 9050 rate is 50 pages per minute on Letter or A4. HP recommends 15,000 to 50,000 pages monthly, separately from the 300,000-page maximum duty figure. These are manufacturer declarations, not timings or durability results measured for this review.

C8543X replacement toner declares about 30,000 pages at roughly five-percent coverage; that cannot establish remaining toner or current running cost. The original dn weighs 168 pounds without its cartridge. Allow delivery, loading and service access, and inspect the actual electrical plate because separate regional editions exist. Choose it for proven wired black reports; compare a different configuration when a smaller installation, capture hardware or a confirmed USB route is essential.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Original User Guide explicitly declares 50 ppm on Letter or ISO A4 for 9050, distinct from 9040 40 ppm. Exact US recommends 15,000–50,000 pages monthly; 300,000 is a maximum Letter duty figure. No large-page/duplex or measured rate inferred.

Paper handling

Exact dn includes 100-sheet Tray 1 and two 500-sheet cassettes. Original per-tray table supports ordinary Letter/Legal/A4/A3/Tabloid in all three, giving 1,100; optional 2,000-sheet Tray 4 and finishing excluded. Capacity stack-weight basis unestablished; 75-g/m² best-results guidance is separate. Original duplex accessory supports these five sizes at 64–199 g/m², excluding envelopes/labels/transparencies. Tray 1 handles up to ten envelopes as a separate one-sided routine, with suitable left output. Output capacity is not input.

Scanning arrangement

Original complete printer configuration, single black toner engine and parts/control panel have no physical scanner, original feeder, copying glass or fax. 9050 MFP is a separate configuration; a finishing or paper feeder accessory is not a scanner.

Computer and mobile connections

Exact dn has embedded Jetdirect 10/100TX Ethernet; original setup requires power disconnected before attaching RJ45. IEEE-1284 B-type parallel is a separate legacy computer alternative. Original complete interfaces list parallel, LAN and Jet-Link for paper handling, not a standard computer USB socket. Generic later USB-cable note is not adopted as port evidence. Optional wireless servers are excluded; no included Wi-Fi/Wi-Fi Direct plan.

Supplies and declared yields

Original C8543X replacement cartridge declares an average of 30,000 pages at approximately 5-percent coverage. Package includes a print cartridge without independently established introductory yield. Optional maintenance and finishing supplies have their own exact part/voltage requirements. No ISO basis, current availability, remaining life or cost-per-page calculation is invented.

Software and support

Compatible desktop Job Storage/Private Job accepts user/job names and a four-digit PIN. Original guide expressly allows private jobs in RAM without the optional hard disk; Retrieve Job at the panel releases by PIN. Temporary jobs are lost when power is turned off. Persistent storage and QuickCopy disk arrangements are distinct. Check actual current software/network support; no AirPrint/Mopria workflow established.

Electrical edition and setup

Exact US Q3723A is explicitly discontinued without inventing #ABA. Original exact dn weight is 168 lb without print cartridge. Setup figures combine open positions and extended optional output; no independently interpreted closed body dimensions assigned. Allow delivery, stable support, trays, output and service access. Original separate 110–127-V and 220–240-V 50/60-Hz editions do not map the actual plate, so mains compatibility remains unknown.
