LaserJet Enterprise 700 M712n (CF235A#BGJ; US configuration)Illustrated overview
A useful fit for

A compatible commercial computer queue needing A3 or 11×17 alongside Letter, Legal or A4 within the 5,000–20,000 monthly recommendation.

The main tradeoff

The n requires manual second-side reloading. A3/11×17 cannot use Tray 2 or the full 600-sheet reserve, and wireless hardware is optional.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can a USB computer print ordinary 11×17 with 350 included sheets and PIN release?

Qualifies with a compatible HP driver and the eligible front 100 plus Tray 3 250 loaded with the selected ordinary stock. Tray 2 is not an 11×17 input; the n does not automatically duplex.

Explore this need in the finder →
Does the standard n hold 600 ordinary A3 sheets without an optional feeder?

Fails the selected-size capacity. Actual original A3 marks support front Tray 1 and Tray 3 only, totaling 350 ordinary sheets, despite the larger overall 600-sheet input figure.

Will the standard n automatically print both Letter sides without a reload?

Fails automatic duplex. The exact n is manual; its documented driver routine returns the printed stack to Tray 1 with the printed side down.

A wide-paper monochrome printer with manual second sides

The HP LaserJet Enterprise 700 M712n fits a commercial computer queue needing A3 or 11×17-inch monochrome output alongside ordinary office sizes. It includes Ethernet, rear computer USB and three inputs. The important suffix limitation is manual duplex: a person must collect and reload first sides instead of expecting an included automatic duplexer.

This review covers the exact US CF235A#BGJ specification reference. HP documents a commercial Class A, 110–127-V edition at 50/60 Hz. It does not establish a seller's current inventory, condition or price. The separately named refurbished CF235AR page is not the basis for this configuration's identity or lifecycle.

Count capacity by the selected paper size

The standard front 100 plus two 250-sheet drawers total 600 ordinary sheets. That full reserve is available for Letter, Legal or A4 when all three inputs contain the selected size. The lower ratings use 20-lb/75-g/m² stock, and dividing inputs between forms and ordinary paper divides the reserve.

A3 and 11×17 are different. The original supported-size table marks Tray 1 and Tray 3, leaving Tray 2 blank. Their standard ordinary capacity is therefore 350 sheets: front 100 plus the third input's 250. A generic US A3 list also names Tray 2, but conflicts with that actual table and its shorter physical maximum. This review uses the original path-specific table rather than promising 600 large sheets.

Open the front support and fold out its extension for paper larger than Letter or A4. Keep stock under the tabs and fill indicators; adjust guides so they touch without bending it. In the lower inputs, set guides to the real size, keep the stack flat at all corners and stay below the maximum line. Match the computer's size and type to the loaded stock.

Make manual duplex an attended task

In the compatible Windows driver, select Print on both sides manually under Finishing. After the first pass, retrieve the printed stack and return it to Tray 1 with the printed side down, following the panel prompt. The original Mac HP-driver routine separately removes blank front paper and also returns the printed stack face down.

Those instructions require a person at the printer. They do not give this n configuration the dn's unattended automatic duplex, and the declared one-sided engine speed does not include handling a second pass. For a regular stream of two-sided packets, the actual M712dn assembly is the useful comparison.

For ordinary one-sided preprinted paper, the front table gives face up/top edge entering; lower drawers use face down/top at the front. Alternative Letterhead Mode changes the applicable routine. A generic long-edge diagram should not override the selected paper's actual fit or the driver prompt.

Connect the correct port and queue

The original Windows USB procedure uses an A-to-B cable, recommends no more than 2 m/6.5 ft and says to connect only when the installer prompts. Keep the device Ready and follow its Wake/Auto On Events instructions. The USB cable is separately purchased. Use a compatible present host driver rather than assuming the original CD supports every current computer.

For Ethernet, obtain the correct device IP from How to Connect and Network Address or print its configuration report. Select that actual device when installing the wired queue. The front flash-file host is separate: enable Retrieve from USB first, then use the panel to print supported files. Neither port adds scanning, copying or fax.

Use PIN release without promising a particular storage count

The original comparison positively includes solid-state memory for the n and documents Personal Job with PIN protection. The US Hard disk field says None, so this review does not promise a hard disk or a storage capacity. It supports the actual memory-stored computer-driver release routine, rather than borrowing the xh's 320-GB disk.

Select Personal Job and a private PIN in a compatible driver; the original Mac procedure uses four digits. At the panel choose Retrieve from Device Memory, folder and job, enter the code and release copies. Names can gain a number or replace a previous file, and limited space can remove older jobs. Keep the source elsewhere. This exact passage does not establish an automatic deletion-after-printing or power-loss rule.

Keep mobile, envelope and supply claims specific

Exact US specifications list AirPrint and Mopria. A separate local mobile arrangement uses printer Ethernet and a compatible client on the same reachable network through its wireless router. AirPrint may require firmware and enabled Bonjour, AirPrint and IPP settings; the original explicitly excludes USB AirPrint. Mobile paper size, capacity, duplex and PIN remain unconfirmed here. Wireless hardware is optional.

Up to ten suitable envelopes use Tray 1 face up with the short postage end entering first; select the actual size and type in the driver. Envelopes do not duplex. The exact US lower ordinary limit is 120 g/m², conservatively retained despite an older 130-g/m² guide value; front input reaches 199 with reduced heavier-stock capacity.

CF214A/14A and separately purchased CF214X/14X declare approximately 10,000 and 17,500 pages under ISO/IEC 19752. HP recommends 5,000–20,000 monthly pages, distinct from 100,000 maximum duty. Declared speed is 40 Letter ppm, separately 41 A4. The US body is 22.4×23.4×15.4 inches and 76.5 lb; allow the approximately 33.8×38.9-inch opened footprint plus service room.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Exact originals declare up to 40 one-sided Letter ppm, separately 41 A4. Recommended use is 5,000–20,000 monthly pages, distinct from maximum duty 100,000. A4, A3 and duplex rates are not substituted for Letter speed. No measured job time or comparative performance inferred.

Paper handling

Included front 100 plus Tray 2 250 plus Tray 3 250 totals 600 ordinary sheets. Actual original paper-size table positively supports Letter, Legal and A4 in all three inputs, but A3 and Tabloid 11×17 only in Tray 1 and Tray 3: their standard ordinary reserve is 350, not 600. Generic US A3 listing for Tray 2 conflicts with the actual original marks and its shorter physical maximum; it is not used. Lower 250-sheet counts use 20-lb/75-g/m² stock; full selected-size count assumes every eligible input holds that size. Open front support and extension for paper larger than Letter/A4, keep under tabs/fill lines and adjust guides without bending the stack. Lower one-sided preprinted stock loads face down/top at the front; automatic-duplex or Alternative Letterhead Mode directions differ. Front envelope route holds ten 75–90-g/m² envelopes face up/short postage end leading; envelopes do not duplex. Current exact US lower range is 60–120 g/m², conservatively retained despite older guide 130; front 60–199, with heavier stock reducing counts. Optional feeders are not included.

Scanning arrangement

This is monochrome print-only hardware without scanner, document feeder, copy function or fax. Generic digital-sending installation words or support-navigation links do not add multifunction hardware.

Computer and mobile connections

Included Gigabit Ethernet and rear USB 2.0 computer device connection with compatible driver; USB cable separately purchased. The original Windows routine uses an A-to-B cable, recommends at most 2 m/6.5 ft and says to connect only when the installer prompts. Keep the device Ready and configure Wake/Auto On Events for All events as instructed. Ethernet setup uses the correct device IP from How to Connect, Network Address or its configuration report. The front flash-file host is distinct and requires Enable Retrieve from USB before use. Wireless hardware remains optional.

Supplies and declared yields

Exact model replacements CF214A/14A and separately purchased CF214X/14X have approximately 10,000 and 17,500 declared pages under ISO/IEC 19752. The original box lists approximately 10,000 pages. The original guide’s non-HP-supplies policy is historical source material, not a promise about present firmware or every refilled cartridge. No current stock, price, installed remainder or cost per page inferred.

Software and support

The original exact n/dn table positively includes solid-state memory and compatible-driver Personal Job/PIN instructions, with 512 MB memory. Solid-state capacity descriptions differ between sources, so no storage-capacity guarantee is made. The macOS routine specifies a four-digit PIN. At the panel choose Retrieve from Device Memory, folder and job, enter the PIN and release copies. Duplicate names can gain a number or replace a prior file; storage pressure can remove oldest jobs. No automatic deletion-after-printing or power-loss rule is imported from another guide, because this exact passage does not establish one. No xh 320 GB hard disk or permanent archive is included.

Electrical edition and setup

Exact US CF235A#BGJ commercial Class A edition documents 110–127 VAC at 50/60 Hz. Verify the actual plate; a separate regional electrical edition is not interchangeable. Current manufacturer specification reference makes no stock, price, seller-condition or discontinuation claim; distinct refurbished CF235AR is not substituted. Exact US closed body is 22.4 inches wide, 23.4 deep and 15.4 high, with published weight 76.5 lb. Fully opened footprint reaches approximately 33.8-inch width and 38.9-inch depth. Allow tray extension, cables, ventilation and service access; check compatible driver and actual accessories.
