LaserJet Enterprise Flow MFP M528c (1PV66A#BGJ)Illustrated overview
A useful fit for

A managed wired office that scans two-sided files frequently and can configure authenticated computer destinations and telephone fax.

The main tradeoff

It does not print color, its c package does not include z wireless hardware, and private-job configuration needs verification before relying on PIN release.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can a wired office print both sides of Legal paper, scan Legal originals in a single pass, copy and fax while using 650 standard sheets?

Yes in the documented Ethernet arrangement with compatible driver settings, an enabled and verified shared folder on the receiving computer, and the included analog fax configured on a suitable telephone line. Letter, Legal and A4 ordinary stock fit both standard trays. The 100-sheet feeder scans both original sides in one pass.

Does the standard c package satisfy a Wi-Fi network requirement without buying a wireless accessory?

No. The later original product guide explicitly lists wireless networking and direct printing as optional for c; the z includes wireless equipment. Ethernet mobile printing is a different arrangement.

Can an iPhone print a Letter document when the printer itself is connected by Ethernet?

Yes using AirPrint with the mobile device and printer on a suitable shared network or subnet. This confirms mobile printing, not computer scanning or every driver-specific two-sided option in a mobile application.

Flow features suit a wired document-capture workgroup

The HP LaserJet Enterprise Flow MFP M528c combines monochrome laser printing with a substantial color scanner. The reviewed US model is 1PV66A#BGJ, which HP marks discontinued. Its useful distinction is the Flow capture equipment: a pull-out keyboard, embedded text recognition and a 100-sheet feeder that reads both sides in one pass.

This is a commercial office device rather than a compact home printer. HP identifies it as FCC Class A. It can scan color material and show a color preview, but printed pages remain black and white. Choose a color printer if the finished document needs colored charts or markings.

Legal originals have two genuinely different routes

The flatbed accepts originals up to 216 x 356 mm, so a suitable Legal original can lie on the glass. The feeder separately supports Letter, Legal and A4. Its two scan heads capture both sides without reversing the original through a second pass.

Use the glass for a bound or unsuitable original and the feeder for a prepared stack. Set original sides and orientation deliberately, then preview the capture before sending it. Flow functions include ultrasonic detection of multiple sheets, automatic orientation, cropping and searchable document output. These tools reduce routine handling but do not remove the need to check page order, legibility and the destination.

HP also documents a longer scan mode. Select that explicit mode when needed; an ordinary Legal setting is not permission to feed every longer document.

Network scanning requires a receiving computer destination

The standard wired arrangement uses Gigabit Ethernet. For computer delivery through a shared folder, an administrator enables Scan to Network Folder in the embedded web interface, enters the destination path and supplies the required credentials. The manual explicitly identifies the receiving server as the computer hosting that folder.

Verify access before making a repeated-job shortcut. A Quick Set can retain the useful destination and scan settings, while a missing or inaccessible share needs fixing before the workflow is ready. Merely installing a print queue does not configure this scan path.

USB printing is another supported route, but its device port is disabled by default in the reviewed guide. Enable it through the control panel or administrator interface and install the compatible software. That USB print procedure does not by itself establish the network-folder scan routine over a cable.

Included paper and fax equipment need their own setup

The standard input is 650 ordinary sheets: 100 in the multipurpose tray and 550 in the main drawer on the 75 gsm basis. Both handle Letter, Legal and A4. Legal extends the drawer and rear dust cover, so allow working depth beyond the closed cabinet.

Automatic duplex printing is included. Select suitable paper, the correct size and the required binding in the computer driver. Envelopes use the multipurpose tray only, in batches up to ten with the short postage end leading. The advertised 2300-sheet maximum needs optional drawers.

The c also includes analog fax. Connect a suitable telephone line and configure location, identity and dialing details. LAN or Internet fax is a separately configured alternative: the guide says only one fax method can be enabled at a time. An Ethernet cable is not an analog telephone connection.

Check wireless, private jobs and supplies before committing

Wireless networking and Wi-Fi Direct are optional on c. An iPhone or Mopria device can nevertheless print on a suitable shared network while the printer uses Ethernet. Confirm the mobile application's available settings rather than assuming every computer-driver option transfers.

The included secure disk and documented Personal Job procedure are relevant to confidential work, but the early guide's model table conflicts with its broader storage instructions. Verify the installed firmware, driver and administrator configuration before depending on PIN release. Optional badge readers and licensed fleet services are separate arrangements.

HP recommends 2000–7500 printed pages monthly, separately from the 150,000-page duty ceiling. Its declared simplex Letter rate is 45 pages/min, not a duplex scan rate or our test result. Check toner, feeder maintenance and the electrical label of the particular earlier unit; the family has separate voltage editions.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

The original product guide explicitly declares up to 45 one-sided Letter pages/min and 43 A4 pages/min, separately from two-sided print image rates and feeder scan images/min. Recommended printing volume is 2000–7500 pages/month; the 150,000-page maximum duty ceiling is a different measure. Flow scanning has a separate recommended range of 8000–14,000 scanned pages/month. These manufacturer declarations are not this review's measured throughput.

Paper handling

Standard input is a 100-sheet multipurpose Tray 1 plus 550-sheet Tray 2 on a 75 gsm ordinary-paper basis. Both support Letter, Legal and A4, for 650 sheets at each size. The 2300-sheet maximum needs three separate optional feeders. Legal extends Tray 2 and opens its rear dust cover. Automatic print duplex supports suitable Letter, Legal and A4 stock; set size, type and binding in the compatible computer driver. Envelopes use Tray 1 only, up to 10, face up with the short postage end leading; select Envelope and the correct size. Do not duplex special media merely because it can be fed.

Scanning arrangement

The exact c model includes a 100-sheet feeder with dual scan heads for single-pass automatic two-sided scanning and copying. Letter, Legal and A4 are supported through that feeder; the separate glass maximum is 216 x 356 mm, so suitable Letter, Legal and A4 originals also fit the flatbed. Color scanning does not make the printer color-capable. Flow adds a pull-out keyboard, embedded OCR, ultrasonic multi-feed detection, automatic orientation and cropping. Long scans require their explicit long-size mode rather than ordinary Legal settings.

Computer and mobile connections

Included Gigabit Ethernet supports compatible computer printing and configured network-folder scanning. In the EWS, enable the scan feature, enter the receiving computer shared-folder path and suitable credentials, then verify access; create a Quick Set for repeated work. USB device printing is separately supported after enabling the initially disabled device port and installing the driver. Direct USB computer scanning is not established by the read procedure, so that plan does not borrow network scanning. Wireless networking and Wi-Fi Direct need separately purchased compatible JetDirect hardware; the c does not inherit z wireless equipment.

Supplies and declared yields

The product guide lists an approximately 7500-page setup cartridge and 89A/89X/89Y replacements at approximately 5000/10,000/20,000 pages on the declared ISO/IEC 19752 continuous-printing basis. Initial and replacement contents are different. Actual yield varies with the document and use; no current cost per page is inferred. Check the particular earlier unit's toner, feeder rollers, stapler supplies and maintenance status. HP describes dynamic security and compatible cartridge-chip requirements; a generic cartridge shape is not sufficient compatibility evidence.

Software and support

AirPrint and Mopria can print through a suitable shared network while the printer uses Ethernet; this does not require a wireless card in the printer. Their mobile plan does not borrow driver-specific duplex or computer scanning. The manual positively describes Personal Job PIN release and the c includes a 500 GB secure disk, but an early model table marks c private-job storage unavailable. The exact installed firmware, driver and administrator job-storage configuration therefore need checking before relying on private release; included PIN eligibility remains unestablished. Badge readers and licensed fleet solutions are separate options. No continued operation of a historical cloud service is promised.

Electrical edition and setup

HP marks exact US 1PV66A#BGJ discontinued and identifies it as an FCC Class A device for commercial environments. The exact closed dimensions are 18.98 x 19.52 x 19.55 inches; Legal tray extension, scanner access and service space need more room. Weight is left unestablished because the shared user-guide value and exact Flow product-guide value differ. Separate electrical editions exist: HP explicitly says the supply is not dual voltage and varies by option code. Inspect the rating label and suitable circuit before installation.
