Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can the US z package scan Legal originals in one pass and supply 3,100 Legal sheets with fax?
Yes under the documented US paper package and configured compatible Ethernet/fax setup. This is not the regional A4-only high-capacity cassette.
Explore this need in the finder →Does the base tower provide Wi-Fi Direct?
No; the appropriate optional Jetdirect accessory and supported setup are required.
Explore this need in the finder →Can it print the scanned document in color?
No. Color scanning and monochrome paper output are different capabilities.

The HP LaserJet Enterprise Flow MFP M630z is a monochrome office tower with a larger supplied paper arrangement and a three-bin stapling mailbox. Its appeal is the complete document station: printing, copying, fax and color capture with less separate equipment to coordinate.
The exact B3G86A package matters. A lower M630 configuration pictured with extra feeders does not necessarily include this tower's equipment. Compare the actual installed inputs, output accessory and scanner rather than the family name alone.
More supplied paper is useful only when it matches the routine
The standard US z arrangement totals 3,100 ordinary input sheets. Multiple sources can help a workgroup keep different supported stock ready, while the mailbox can organize finished jobs and provide stapling. Decide who loads each source and collects each output bin.
Legal-paper buyers should check the actual regional high-capacity cassette. The US specification lists Legal and Letter for that source, while other regional documentation describes an A4 arrangement. Verify the supplied hardware and its settings instead of treating every regional package as interchangeable.
Automatic two-sided printing is included. Paper type, weight, orientation and driver choices still determine whether an individual job can use it. Envelopes use a separate instructed routine, and the larger dedicated envelope feeder is an optional part.
Single-pass scanning supports a different kind of workload
The 100-sheet document feeder captures both sides in a single pass. Color scanning is available even though the print engine is monochrome. That combination can suit an office filing colored forms electronically but producing mainly black text on paper.
The Flow z adds EveryPage double-feed detection, a pull-out keyboard and embedded OCR capabilities. These features can assist capture work, but they do not remove the need to inspect a complete file. Check missing pages, orientation and important text before relying on a searchable result.
The documented glass and feeder ranges cover ordinary Legal originals. Use the glass for appropriate items that should not pass through rollers, and keep unsupported or fragile materials out of a batch simply assembled for convenience.
Configure the destination before counting scanning as solved
Ethernet scanning to a network folder requires a reachable compatible destination and correct access credentials. Set up the shared path, file naming and permissions, then test from the panel. A successful print job and a successful scan delivery are separate checks.
Document capture options should fit the people using them. A clear destination button and an agreed naming routine can make saved files easier to find. Check that staff can retrieve the output without exposing a shared folder more widely than intended.
The walk-up USB memory route is distinct from direct computer USB scanning. Fax also needs its supported telephone arrangement. The machine's function list does not configure those connections for an individual office.
Keep private printing and wireless separate
The included hard disk and compatible desktop software support documented private jobs. Send a test file, confirm that it waits, and release it using the assigned PIN at the panel. That is a practical check of the desired routine rather than a conclusion from a security badge.
USB and Ethernet are supplied connections. Wireless, Direct and NFC arrangements need the correct optional accessory. Verify the installed hardware if cable-free placement or a particular mobile-print route is essential.
Plan the whole installation and inspect earlier equipment
This large configuration needs room for the paper sources, mailbox, scanner lid and keyboard during use. Include the route into the office and service access when measuring. Check the actual regional electrical plate before installation.
For an earlier machine, inspect feeder rollers, representative output, finishing, storage and supplies. Confirm current software support and the complete included package. Choose the M630z when those paper and capture functions will be used regularly, rather than paying for a large station whose main role is occasional single-page printing.

Paper, software and setup details
Print-rate conditions
HP declares 60 Letter or 57 A4 monochrome pages per minute. Recommended monthly print volume is 5,000–28,000 pages, distinct from the 250,000-page maximum Letter duty figure. Scanner image rates are separate.
Paper handling
The complete US z package supplies 3,100 ordinary sheets and the stapling mailbox. The US high-capacity cassette lists Letter/Legal; a regional A4-only arrangement must not be substituted. Aggregate A4 capacity and paper-specific duplex limits remain unconfirmed here. The dedicated envelope feeder is optional.
Scanning arrangement
The 100-sheet feeder provides single-pass two-sided color capture with EveryPage. Both reviewed scanner paths cover ordinary Letter, Legal and A4. The z adds its keyboard and enhanced capture features. Ethernet folder delivery needs a compatible reachable share and valid access; USB computer scanning is unconfirmed.
Computer and mobile connections
Computer USB, Gigabit Ethernet and configured analog fax are supplied. Wi-Fi, Direct and NFC require optional equipment. Shared-network mobile capability does not establish every desktop operating combination.
Supplies and declared yields
The original guide identifies HP 81A CF281A and 81X CF281X black supplies. Check toner, maintenance and staple components on the offered equipment. No current running-cost or remaining-life estimate is implied.
Software and support
A 320 GB secure disk is supplied; the 500 GB FIPS option is separate. Compatible desktop Personal Job/PIN release is documented in the operating guide. Optional TPM, badges and cloud pull-print arrangements are not included assumptions.
Electrical edition and setup
Earlier US B3G86A configuration. Body: 35.9 × 25.3 × 43.7 inches, 201.1 lb including cartridge. Allow keyboard, tray, lid, output, cable and service access. Check the actual regional electrical plate; voltage editions are not dual voltage.
