LaserJet Enterprise M506dn (F2A69A#BGJ; US configuration)Illustrated overview
A useful fit for

A prepared commercial computer setup needing Letter, Legal or A4 duplex within the 2,000–7,500 monthly recommendation.

The main tradeoff

Wireless and additional inputs need accessories. Mobile jobs do not inherit driver duplex or PIN settings, and original width and weight figures remain unresolved.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can a USB computer automatically duplex Legal with 650 ordinary sheets and PIN release for 7,500 monthly pages?

Qualifies with earlier references enabled, a compatible HP driver and the Legal tray extension. The detailed original paper table supports Legal duplex, and Personal Job/PIN uses included memory with printing and power-loss deletion.

Can a compatible AirPrint client print on the local network while the printer uses Ethernet?

Qualifies with earlier references enabled and the client on the same reachable subnet. That separate route has no confirmed mobile paper-size, capacity, duplex or PIN promise.

Explore this need in the finder →
Can the same AirPrint job automatically duplex A4 and wait for the computer driver’s PIN release?

Fails those combined requirements. The computer-driver instructions establish duplex and Personal Job/PIN for that arrangement, but those capabilities remain unconfirmed for the network mobile job.

The included duplexer is the useful change from the n

The HP LaserJet Enterprise M506dn suits a prepared commercial office that wants monochrome printing, automatic second sides and temporary computer-driver PIN release with a 650-sheet ordinary-paper supply. Its included Gigabit Ethernet and USB provide normal wired choices. The main tradeoff is that infrastructure Wi-Fi, direct-wireless accessories and further inputs require separate hardware.

HP's exact US page identifies F2A69A#BGJ and marks the model discontinued. This earlier review covers its documented 100–127-V, 60-Hz commercial Class A edition, without promising stock or a particular used machine's condition. Check the actual plate and compatible current software before building the workflow around it.

Duplex the supported document through a known driver

The actual original suffix table includes automatic duplex for the dn. The detailed M506 paper table confirms Letter, Legal and A4 in the turning path; the shorter US media field lists Letter and A4 without explicitly excluding Legal. This review retains the detailed table's positive support rather than inferring duplex from ordinary input size alone.

In the original compatible Windows driver, choose Finishing and Print on both sides. The original OS X HP driver uses Layout and a Two-Sided binding choice, with a warning that the feature might not be available through AirPrint. An installed duplexer therefore supports the known computer arrangement without proving every mobile job's options.

For oriented paper, the original automatic routine loads front Tray 1 face down with the bottom entering first. The lower drawer takes it face up with the bottom at the front. Alternative Letterhead Mode is disabled by default; enabling it deliberately uses the duplex loading orientation for single- and two-sided work. Its menu setting matters as much as the paper's face.

Use the 550-sheet drawer properly

The lower 550 and front 100 make 650 ordinary sheets at HP's 20-lb/75-g/m² basis. Both inputs support Letter, Legal and A4. The full count for one selected size assumes both contain it; keeping separate forms and plain stock divides the supply.

Set the drawer's width and length guides before loading. For Legal, squeeze the rear lever left of center and extend the tray back; its dust cover also needs additional rear space. Keep below the full mark and use the tray's indentations instead of pressing guides tightly into the stack. HP warns against opening more than one tray at a time.

Accept the panel configuration only when it matches the actual paper; use Modify otherwise and set the computer job accordingly. The lower and duplex paths are limited to 60–120 g/m², while the front ordinary range extends to 200. A thicker stack will not preserve the nominal ordinary-sheet count.

Release a Personal Job at the keypad

The exact original configuration includes 4 GB eMMC and positively supports private memory-stored printing. A compatible driver can create a Personal Job with PIN protection. The documented OS X procedure uses four digits; at the printer, select Retrieve from Device Memory, the folder and job, enter the code and release the copies.

HP expressly says that Personal Jobs delete after printing and are lost if power is interrupted. Duplicate names may gain a number or replace an earlier file according to the chosen driver setting, and storage pressure can remove older jobs. The original document should remain available on the computer.

The optional 500-GB encrypted hard disk is separate from this included temporary routine. A broad security slogan does not make that disk installed or establish permanent archival behavior. Accessory authentication devices also need their actual supporting hardware; the hardware integration pocket is not automatically a functional internal USB socket.

Keep the network and mobile arrangements clear

Rear USB 2.0 serves a compatible computer, with a separate cable for this US edition. Ethernet supplies the normal shared queue. The front flash-drive host is a different file-printing route and is disabled by default until an administrator enables Retrieve from USB.

The exact US technical fields list AirPrint and Mopria certification. A supported local arrangement keeps the printer on Ethernet and puts a compatible mobile client on the same reachable subnet through its access point. Infrastructure Wi-Fi and NFC/direct-wireless accessories remain optional for this dn.

The mobile route has no independently confirmed paper-size, capacity, automatic-duplex or PIN promise here. Those settings are not transferred from the computer driver's routine. Historical cloud-service names and a USB AirPrint version warning likewise do not establish an additional included operating arrangement.

Handle an envelope job as its own routine

Use only Tray 1 for up to ten envelopes, face up with the short postage end entering first. In the original compatible Windows driver, choose the actual size, Envelope as the type and Manual feed as the source. Send the job before loading the envelopes as instructed. This is a supported single-sided routine, not an envelope-duplex claim.

The printer itself is monochrome and print-only. Its color graphics display and generic references to an MFP do not add scanning, copying or fax hardware. Choose an actual multifunction model when originals need to become computer files.

Check the recommendation and the physical unit

HP recommends 2,000–7,500 monthly pages, distinct from 150,000 maximum duty. Original one-sided speed is up to 45 Letter pages per minute, separately 43 A4. Replacement CF287A and optional CF287X yields follow ISO/IEC 19752 conditions; the supplied introductory cartridge is listed at about 6,000 pages.

Closed dust-cover depth is 14.8 inches and exact US height 11.73. Width and weight differ between original sources and remain unresolved. Measure the actual assembly and extended Legal drawer, and allow opening, ventilation and service access. Compare M506x when a genuinely included second 550-sheet drawer would solve a daily refill problem.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Exact originals declare up to 45 one-sided Letter ppm, separately 43 A4. Recommendation 2,000–7,500 monthly pages is distinct from maximum duty 150,000. No measured result, comparative speed or duplex rate inferred.

Paper handling

Included front 100 plus lower 550 totals 650 ordinary 20-lb/75-g/m² sheets; full selected-size capacity assumes both contain the same size. Actual detailed M506 paper table supports Letter/Legal/A4 in both inputs and automatic duplex. The shorter US duplex-size field lists Letter/A4 without explicitly excluding Legal; detailed positive table retained. Original Windows Finishing or HP OS X Layout/Two-Sided provides the driver routine; AirPrint may differ. Duplex letterhead front face down/bottom entering, lower face up/bottom at front. Alternative Letterhead Mode is disabled by default and deliberately uses duplex loading for both routines when enabled. Set guides before loading, do not squeeze tightly, stay below fill marks, use the rear lever/extended drawer for Legal, and match actual panel/driver size and type. Do not extend multiple trays together. Lower/duplex range 60–120 g/m², front 60–200. Up to ten envelopes use front face up/short postage end entering; select driver size, Envelope type and Manual feed before sending and loading. Extra 550-sheet inputs optional.

Scanning arrangement

This is a monochrome print-only printer without a physical scanner, flatbed, document feeder, copy function or fax. A color control display or generic MFP wording does not add multifunction hardware.

Computer and mobile connections

Included Gigabit Ethernet and rear Hi-Speed USB 2.0 computer device port with compatible driver; USB cable separate for US. Front flash-drive host uses specified files and is disabled until administrator enables Retrieve from USB. Infrastructure Wi-Fi and NFC/Wi-Fi Direct accessories are optional for dn. Its hardware integration pocket requires the optional internal USB accessory before that pocket’s USB port works.

Supplies and declared yields

Exact model replacements are CF287A/87A and separately purchased CF287X/87X, declared about 9,000 and 18,000 pages under ISO/IEC 19752 continuous-printing conditions. The original box instead lists an introductory approximately 6,000-page cartridge. No supplied full 87A/87X yield, installed remainder, live price, stock or cost per page inferred.

Software and support

The original exact configuration includes 4 GB eMMC and positively supports memory-stored private jobs. A compatible computer driver offers Personal Job with PIN protection; the documented OS X routine uses four digits. Retrieve from Device Memory selects folder/job, requests the PIN and releases copies. Personal jobs delete after printing and are lost if power is interrupted, as explicitly stated in this original. Names can gain a number or replace a previous file, and space pressure may delete oldest jobs. The 500 GB encrypted hard disk is optional; the reviewed temporary PIN route does not promise that hardware or permanent archiving.

Electrical edition and setup

Exact US F2A69A#BGJ is discontinued and commercial Class A, documenting 100–127 V at 60 Hz. Verify actual plate and compatible driver; separate high-voltage edition is not convertible. Closed dust-cover depth 14.8 inches agrees across originals; exact US height is 11.73 inches. Width and weight remain unconfirmed: exact US publishes 16.46 inches and 25.9 lb, versus generic n/dn guide 16.1 inches and 26.5 lb without an established common basis. Legal opens the dust cover to 17.5-inch depth in the guide. Open-tray dimensions also differ; measure actual setup and allow ventilation, cables and service access.
