Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can a direct computer print ordinary Legal with 650 sheets and PIN release at a 7,500-page monthly workload?
Qualifies with earlier references enabled, a compatible driver and the documented Legal drawer extension. Full capacity assumes both inputs contain ordinary Legal stock. Personal Job/PIN deletes after printing or power loss.
Explore this need in the finder →Does the standard n automatically turn Letter sheets without a reload?
Fails automatic duplex. The exact original n column says it is not supported; use the instructed manual workflow or select an actual duplex configuration.
Explore this need in the finder →Can a compatible Mopria client print on the local network while the printer stays wired?
Qualifies with earlier references enabled and the client on the same reachable subnet. This separate mobile route does not establish driver PIN, duplex, paper-size or full-capacity settings.
Explore this need in the finder →A wired queue with a useful paper supply and manual duplex
The HP LaserJet Enterprise M506n fits a prepared commercial office that wants monochrome computer printing, 650 ordinary sheets and temporary PIN release. Ethernet and rear computer USB are included. Its main compromise is the n configuration's manual second-side routine: the original model table explicitly does not support automatic duplex on this variant.
HP's exact US page identifies F2A68A#BGJ and marks the model discontinued. This is an earlier configuration review, without a stock or used-condition promise. It covers the documented 100–127-V, 60-Hz commercial Class A edition; check the actual plate and a compatible current host driver.
Load 650 sheets without counting accessories
The standard supply combines a 100-sheet multipurpose input and 550-sheet lower drawer. HP states both ordinary counts at 20 lb/75 g/m². Letter, Legal and A4 fit the actual input arrangement. Full capacity for one selected size assumes both inputs contain it; splitting forms and plain stock divides that supply.
Open the front support, spread the guides and keep the stack below its fill line. In the lower drawer, release and adjust the width and length guides before loading, then keep below the full mark. Do not squeeze the guides tightly against the paper; use the tray's markings and indentations.
Legal needs an extra step: squeeze the rear lever left of center and extend the drawer back to its Legal position. Its dust cover then needs more depth than the published closed arrangement. Use Modify when the panel's reported size or type differs from the real stock, and match the computer job to that setting.
Make second sides an explicit task
The original Windows driver offers Print on both sides manually under Finishing. Print the first sides, retrieve the stack, return it to Tray 1 and follow the panel prompt. That Windows step does not state a face direction, so an instruction from a different generation should not be imported.
The separate original OS X HP-driver routine removes blank front-tray paper and returns the printed stack with the printed side down. HP also warns that this driver feature might not be available through AirPrint. A person must collect and reload the paper either way.
Generic technical labels mentioning an optional duplexer do not override the exact original n column. If unattended two-sided output matters, compare an actual M506dn assembly rather than assuming this n can be treated as one.
Use Personal Job with its real deletion behavior
The actual original configuration includes 4 GB of embedded eMMC storage and positively lists private stored jobs. In a compatible computer driver, choose Personal Job and PIN protection. The documented OS X routine uses a four-digit code.
At the printer, open Retrieve from Device Memory, select the folder and job, enter the PIN and release the desired copies. HP explicitly says that a Personal Job deletes after printing and is lost if the printer loses power. Its practical purpose is a controlled release, not keeping the only copy of a document.
Names can gain a number or replace an earlier file according to the driver option, and space pressure can remove older jobs. The optional 500-GB encrypted hard disk is a different component. Its appearance in a security list does not make it included or expand this review into a permanent-storage guarantee.
Keep network mobile printing separate
The exact US specifications list AirPrint and Mopria certification. A supported arrangement uses printer Ethernet and a compatible mobile client on the same reachable subnet through its access point. The printer does not need an infrastructure Wi-Fi radio for that wired-network arrangement.
The separately recorded mobile route has no confirmed paper-size, input-count, duplex or PIN promise here. These driver-specific settings are not automatically transferred to the phone job. The original's USB AirPrint version caveat also does not establish an included USB mobile workflow by itself.
Infrastructure wireless and direct-printing accessories are optional for the n. It also lacks the hardware integration pocket included with the dn and x; a generic accessory photograph should not change that configuration.
Distinguish flash files, envelopes and ordinary pages
The front USB host reads specified flash-drive files after an administrator enables Retrieve from USB, which is disabled by default. The rear USB device connection instead serves a compatible computer, with the cable separately purchased. Neither port adds a scanner, copier or fax to this print-only hardware.
For up to ten envelopes, use the original compatible Windows Paper/Quality routine: select their size, choose Envelope as the type and Manual feed as the source, send the job, then load Tray 1 face up with the short postage end entering first. Envelopes are not a promise of automatic duplex.
Lower ordinary stock is limited to 60–120 g/m², with a separate front range of 60–200. Thick material changes nominal capacity. Confirm the actual supported type instead of assuming that every front-fed sheet behaves like ordinary paper.
Check workload, supply and physical access
HP recommends 2,000–7,500 monthly pages, distinct from 150,000 maximum duty. Original one-sided speed is up to 45 Letter pages per minute, separately 43 A4. Replacement CF287A and optional CF287X yields differ from the approximately 6,000-page introductory cartridge listed in the box.
The closed dust-cover depth is 14.8 inches and the exact US height is 11.73. Width and weight remain unresolved between original sources. Measure the actual assembly, allow the extended Legal drawer and service access, and choose the dn if automatic second sides are the feature that would change the daily routine.

Paper, software and setup details
Print-rate conditions
Exact originals declare up to 45 one-sided Letter ppm, separately 43 A4. Recommendation 2,000–7,500 monthly pages is distinct from maximum duty 150,000. No measured result, comparative speed or duplex rate inferred.
Paper handling
Standard front 100 plus lower 550 equals 650 ordinary 20-lb/75-g/m² Letter/Legal/A4 sheets when both inputs contain the selected size. Extend front support, set lower width/length guides before loading, use markings rather than squeezing guides tightly, and stay below fill lines. Legal needs the rear lever and extended drawer/dust cover; match actual panel size/type and computer job. Front ordinary range 60–200 g/m², lower 60–120. Original n column says automatic duplex not supported. Windows manual return uses Tray 1 and panel prompt without a face direction stated there; separate OS X routine returns printed side down after removing blank paper. Envelope routine holds up to ten in Tray 1 face up/short postage end entering, with driver size, Envelope type and Manual feed selected before loading. Extra 550-sheet inputs are optional.
Scanning arrangement
This is a monochrome print-only printer without a physical scanner, flatbed, document feeder, copy function or fax. A color control display or generic MFP wording does not add multifunction hardware.
Computer and mobile connections
Included Gigabit Ethernet and rear Hi-Speed USB 2.0 computer device connection with compatible driver; USB cable separate for this US edition. Front flash-drive host uses specified files and is disabled until administrator enables Retrieve from USB. Infrastructure Wi-Fi and NFC/direct-printing accessories are optional for n. Actual n lacks the hardware integration pocket included with dn/x.
Supplies and declared yields
Exact model replacements are CF287A/87A and separately purchased CF287X/87X, declared about 9,000 and 18,000 pages under ISO/IEC 19752 continuous-printing conditions. The original box instead lists an introductory approximately 6,000-page cartridge. No supplied full 87A/87X yield, installed remainder, live price, stock or cost per page inferred.
Software and support
The original exact configuration includes 4 GB eMMC and positively supports memory-stored private jobs. A compatible computer driver offers Personal Job with PIN protection; the documented OS X routine uses four digits. Retrieve from Device Memory selects folder/job, requests the PIN and releases copies. Personal jobs delete after printing and are lost if power is interrupted, as explicitly stated in this original. Names can gain a number or replace a previous file, and space pressure may delete oldest jobs. The 500 GB encrypted hard disk is optional; the reviewed temporary PIN route does not promise that hardware or permanent archiving.
Electrical edition and setup
Exact US F2A68A#BGJ is discontinued and commercial Class A, documenting 100–127 V at 60 Hz. Verify actual plate and compatible driver; separate high-voltage edition is not convertible. Closed dust-cover depth 14.8 inches agrees across originals, and exact US height is 11.73 inches. Width and weight remain unconfirmed: exact US publishes 16.46 inches and 25.5 lb, while the generic n/dn guide gives 16.1 inches and 26.5 lb without an established common basis. Legal loading opens the dust cover to 17.5-inch depth in the guide. Open-tray dimensions also differ between sources; measure actual setup and allow ventilation, cables and service access.
