LaserJet Enterprise 600 M601dn (CE990A#BGJ; US configuration)Illustrated overview
A useful fit for

A prepared commercial computer network needing ordinary Letter, Legal or A4 automatic duplex within the 3,000–12,000 monthly recommendation.

The main tradeoff

The normal input is 600 sheets. Temporary PIN jobs have deletion limits, while mobile printing does not inherit computer duplex or PIN settings.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can a USB computer automatically duplex ordinary Legal with 600 sheets and PIN release at 12,000 monthly pages?

Qualifies with earlier references enabled, the included duplexer and a compatible computer driver. Keep the rear closed and use supported ordinary media; Personal Job/PIN has temporary storage conditions.

Explore this need in the finder →
Does AirPrint support prove automatic duplex for this exact mobile job?

Fails that combined requirement because the separately documented mobile route has no confirmed automatic-duplex behavior. The computer-driver duplex feature is not borrowed.

Can the dn handle ordinary A3 pages through its wired computer connection?

Fails A3. The actual input and duplex size columns support Letter, Legal and A4 in this reviewed arrangement, without a wide-paper path.

Automatic page turning within the M601 workload range

The HP LaserJet Enterprise 600 M601dn is the M601 configuration to consider when a prepared commercial office needs automatic two-sided Letter, Legal or A4 documents. It includes the duplex accessory alongside Gigabit Ethernet, direct USB printing and a 600-sheet ordinary supply. Its practical limit is the standard input rather than the large optional-tray arrangements described elsewhere in the family literature.

The exact HP US product page identifies CE990A#BGJ and marks the printer discontinued. This review covers its documented low-voltage configuration as an earlier reference. Inspect the actual mechanism, electrical plate and usable computer driver; the assessment does not promise stock or the condition of a surviving unit. HP specifies the commercial Class A installation context.

Use the included mechanism with supported ordinary paper

The original duplex-size column positively supports Letter, Legal and A4. Its documented ordinary-media range is 60–120 g/m². Select Print on both sides in the compatible Windows driver's Finishing tab, or the appropriate two-sided binding setting in the documented Mac arrangement. Choose the job's correct size and type.

Keep the rear output closed. Opening it selects the face-up straight path and makes the duplexer unavailable, so an envelope setup must be changed back before an automatic two-sided job. Labels, transparencies and envelopes do not gain duplex support simply because the front input can feed them.

For ordinary duplex letterhead without a finishing accessory, the guide loads the front face down with the bottom edge entering first. The lower tray uses face up with the bottom at the front. The optional stapler changes orientations again; its instructions are not borrowed for this standard package.

Keep the 600-sheet arrangement correctly configured

The supplied front input holds 100 ordinary sheets and the lower input 500, at the original 20-lb/75-g/m² basis. Both support Letter, Legal and A4. Full selected-size capacity assumes both contain that ordinary size. Separate loaded formats divide the total, and heavier media can reduce the actual stack.

Set the lower tray's side and rear guides, keep the corners flat below the maximum-height marks and slide it fully home. Adjust the front guides without bending the paper and keep the stack under its tabs. Do not fan paper or load while the printer is working. Accept or correct the panel size/type prompt so it agrees with the real job.

The exact US lower-paper limit is 120 g/m², narrower than a generic guide table's 135; the narrower value is used here. Additional paper inputs, the 75-envelope feeder, stacker and stapler are optional. Up to ten supported envelopes use the normal front input face up, with the short postage edge leading into the engine and the rear output open and extended.

Separate the computer cable from host USB printing

The included Ethernet interface is Gigabit. The original installation gets the actual address from the Embedded Jetdirect configuration page and selects it in the compatible computer software. A working current driver still needs checking against the real computer.

The rear Hi-Speed USB 2.0 computer port takes an A-to-B cable, separately purchased; HP recommends at most two meters and connecting when prompted during installation. The front walk-up host port instead prints specified file types from recognized storage. It is a useful distinct task, without promising every USB device or file.

Built-in Wi-Fi is absent from the normal configuration. Wireless LAN and Wireless Direct accessories are additional purchases, and neither is assumed for this wired route.

Temporary PIN release does not require permanent storage

The actual original driver provides Personal Job and PIN to print with a four-digit code. Retrieve Job from Device Memory selects the user and job, then requests that PIN before printing. This temporary route is documented separately from permanent Stored Job, so the exact product page's Hard disk: None field does not remove the genuine personal-job capability.

Personal jobs delete after printing and at power-off. Duplicate names can replace earlier work, and space pressure can remove older jobs. Quick Copy and permanent stored jobs have optional-hard-disk conditions and are excluded here. The feature is not an encryption or permanent-archive promise.

Use local mobile printing with its own limits

AirPrint is explicitly supported on the network, with a possible firmware update, and the exact dn page lists Mopria certification. Keep the printer on Ethernet and the compatible client on the same reachable local network through a Wi-Fi access point. Printer Wi-Fi hardware is unnecessary for that arrangement.

The separately documented mobile route does not establish paper-size choices, input-count guarantees, automatic duplex or PIN behavior. The computer driver's automatic duplex and personal-job settings therefore stay with that computer plan. This machine also has no scanner, document feeder, copier or fax.

Fit the unit and the recommended monthly routine

HP recommends 3,000–12,000 monthly pages, distinct from the 175,000-page maximum duty. Declared one-sided speed is 45 Letter pages per minute, separately 43 A4. No measured or duplex speed is claimed.

The exact US dn fields give 16.3 inches wide, 20 deep, 15.7 high and 57.8 pounds, with packaging listed separately. The generic guide combines n/dn measurements, so allow access and measure the actual assembly. Verify its 100–127-V, 50/60-Hz plate. CE390A is the documented M601 replacement; the M602/M603-only CE390X and historical yield do not establish this unit's remaining supply or cost.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Exact M601dn declares up to 45 one-sided Letter ppm, separately 43 A4. Exact US recommended 3,000–12,000 monthly pages is distinct from maximum duty 175,000; no measured or duplex speed inferred.

Paper handling

Exact M601dn includes front 100 plus lower 500, total 600 ordinary 20-lb/75-g/m² Letter/Legal/A4 sheets, plus automatic duplex accessory. Actual automatic-size checkmarks support all three. Use ordinary 60–120 g/m², compatible driver Finishing/Print on both sides and closed rear output. Duplex letterhead without finishing accessory: front face down/bottom first, lower face up/bottom toward front. No duplex envelopes/labels/transparencies. Set guides/panel size/type, keep flat below tabs/marks and do not fan or load while printing. Lower ordinary limit uses narrower exact US 120 rather than generic guide 135; thicker media reduce capacity. Up to ten front envelopes use face up/short postage edge leading, rear open and extended. Additional inputs and 75-envelope feeder optional.

Scanning arrangement

This is monochrome print-only hardware without a document scanner, flatbed, automatic document feeder, copy function or fax. A color control-panel display does not make color output or add color scanning.

Computer and mobile connections

Included Gigabit Ethernet and Hi-Speed USB 2.0 support a real compatible computer driver. The rear computer connection uses A-to-B USB; the original recommends no more than 2 m and connecting only when installation prompts. The front walk-up host socket is a separate file-printing route, not the computer cable port. Wireless LAN and Wireless Direct accessories are optional; no built-in Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi Direct is presumed.

Supplies and declared yields

Exact M601dn lists CE390A, about 10,000 replacement pages under ISO/IEC 19752. Detailed original ordering limits CE390X to M602/M603, so it is excluded for M601dn. No installed remainder, current supply availability, guaranteed full included yield, price or cost per page inferred.

Software and support

The original compatible computer driver provides Personal Job with PIN to print and a four-digit PIN. Retrieve Job from Device Memory selects user/job and requests the PIN. Temporary personal jobs delete after printing and at power-off; repeated user/job names may replace earlier jobs, and space pressure can delete older jobs. Quick Copy and permanent Stored Job have separate optional-hard-disk conditions. The reviewed promise is temporary PIN-held printing, not encryption, permanent archiving or an installed secure hard disk.

Electrical edition and setup

Exact US CE990A#BGJ identity/discontinued, 100–127-V, 50/60-Hz edition and commercial Class A context. Verify actual plate and driver; high-voltage edition is separate. Exact US dn body 16.3 W × 20 D × 15.7 H inches, 57.8 lb, distinct from packaging. Generic guide combines n/dn values and has a visible 4515-mm depth typo; exact per-model included-duplex fields control. Measure actual assembly and allow opening, cables, trays and cartridge access.
