LaserJet Enterprise M605n (E6B69A#BGJ; US configuration)Illustrated overview
A useful fit for

A prepared wired commercial workgroup printing Letter, Legal or A4 within the 5,000–16,000 monthly recommendation.

The main tradeoff

The n needs manual second-side reloading. Duplex hardware, infrastructure Wi-Fi and NFC/Wi-Fi Direct accessories are separate, and mobile jobs do not inherit driver settings.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can a direct USB computer use ordinary A4 with 600 sheets and PIN release for a 16,000-page monthly workload?

Qualifies with earlier references enabled and a compatible driver. Both included inputs support A4 at the stated ordinary-paper basis, and the original Personal Job routine supports PIN release.

Explore this need in the finder →
Does the n include automatic Letter duplex for the wired queue?

Fails automatic duplex. M605n requires the instructed manual return or a separately purchased mechanism; the different dn and x include it.

Can a Mopria client print over the local network with the printer connected by Ethernet?

Qualifies with earlier references enabled and a compatible client on the same reachable local network. This mobile route makes no separate promise about paper settings, capacity, duplex or PIN.

Faster original output without an included page turner

The HP LaserJet Enterprise M605n suits a prepared commercial workgroup needing monochrome output, a wired shared queue and PIN release from a compatible computer driver. Its 600-sheet standard supply is straightforward to manage. The important compromise is automatic duplex: the n does not include the mechanism found in the dn and x configurations.

The exact HP US page names E6B69A#BGJ and marks it discontinued. This review covers that earlier low-voltage model, without suggesting current stock or a particular used unit's condition. HP's Class A emissions statement calls for a commercial installation, and its historical software lists do not guarantee a current computer driver.

Choose it for a realistic monthly workload

The exact recommended range is 5,000–16,000 monthly pages. The separate 225,000-page maximum duty cycle is not a recommendation to run at that level every month. Original one-sided speed is up to 58 Letter pages per minute, separately 56 A4, before considering a user's document, host and selected settings.

The printer produces black-and-white pages only. It has no scanner, flatbed, feeder, copier or fax. A four-line color graphics display and generic software text about scanning do not change those hardware limits. A workgroup that must digitize originals needs an actual multifunction device instead.

Use both inputs without overstating their capacity

The front multipurpose input holds 100 sheets and the normal drawer 500, stated for ordinary 20-lb/75-g/m² paper. Both accept Letter, Legal and A4. Keeping one selected size in both gives the documented 600-sheet supply; splitting forms and plain paper across them naturally divides it.

Pull out the front support, keep the stack below its fill line and bring the side guides to the edges gently. Set the drawer's width and length guides with their release latches before loading, then close it. Use the panel's Modify choice if the displayed size or type is wrong, and match the computer job to the actual stock.

The exact model page limits the lower path to 60–120 g/m², with a separate 60–200-g/m² front range. A broader generic support table does not override those narrower limits. Additional 500-sheet feeders and a 1,500-sheet assembly are expansion choices, not part of this standard configuration.

Make second sides a staffed task

The original Windows HP driver offers a manual option under Finishing. Print the first sides, retrieve the output, return it to Tray 1 and respond to the panel prompt. That Windows procedure does not give a face direction at the return step, so a direction from another model should not be assumed.

The separate OS X routine removes unused paper from Tray 1 and returns the printed stack face down. It is an HP-driver function that might not appear under AirPrint. A user must remain involved either way. If unattended two-sided printing is central to the job, compare the actual M605dn or M605x configuration before treating an optional duplexer as already fitted.

Connect the computer and release a held job

Gigabit Ethernet and a rear Hi-Speed USB 2.0 device connection are included; the computer USB cable is separate. The front host socket is for specified files on a flash drive. Its Retrieve from USB function is disabled by default and needs administrator enablement, so a visible socket alone does not promise immediate walk-up printing.

For a supported computer driver, select Personal Job under Job Storage and add PIN protection. The original OS X procedure uses a four-digit PIN. At the printer, choose Retrieve from Device Memory, select the folder and job, enter the code and release the desired copies.

The guide says job storage is enabled by default. Duplicate job names and replacement settings can overwrite previous work, and a need for space can remove the oldest jobs. The optional encrypted hard disk remains a separate purchase. This review promises the documented held-job routine, without inventing permanent retention or a deletion policy from an older generation.

Keep mobile and envelope routines distinct

The exact US specification lists AirPrint and Mopria certification. A practical supported arrangement leaves the printer on Ethernet while the compatible client reaches the same local network through an access point. That does not require printer Wi-Fi, which is optional here, and it does not turn USB computer printing into AirPrint.

Mobile paper sizes, input-count guarantees, duplex and PIN behavior are not independently established for that route. For envelopes, use the separate compatible computer routine: up to ten in Tray 1, face up with the short postage edge leading into the engine, correct size/type selected and the recommended open, extended rear output. The larger dedicated envelope feeder is optional.

Check the supply and the room around the body

Unlike the M604, the M605n supports both CF281A and the separately purchased high-yield CF281X. HP declares roughly 10,500 and 25,000 replacement pages under ISO/IEC 19752 conditions; those figures do not reveal remaining toner in a used cartridge or current running cost.

The closed body is 16.7 inches wide, 17.8 deep and 15.7 high, at 49.7 pounds with cartridges. Opening and servicing it needs more space; original sources differ on maximum opened depth. Verify the actual documented 100–127-V, 50/60-Hz plate rather than assuming the separately specified high-voltage edition converts to US power.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Original M605n declares up to 58 one-sided Letter ppm, separately 56 A4. Exact US recommendation is 5,000–16,000 monthly pages, distinct from maximum duty 225,000. No measured or duplex-speed claim.

Paper handling

Included front 100 plus lower 500 equals 600 ordinary 20-lb/75-g/m² sheets, with Letter, Legal and A4 supported in both. The full selected-size count assumes both inputs contain it. Set guides and panel size/type, stay below fill marks and do not load while printing. Exact lower range 60–120 g/m² controls over generic support page 60–220; front range 60–200 is separate. Standard n requires manual duplex: Windows returns printed stack to Tray 1 and follows panel prompt without a face direction stated there; separate OS X procedure returns printed side down. Up to ten envelopes in Tray 1 use face up, short postage edge leading into printer, correct size/type and recommended rear output open/extended. Additional trays, duplex mechanism and 75-envelope feeder are optional.

Scanning arrangement

This exact model is a monochrome print-only printer without a scanner, feeder, copy or fax function. A color control display and generic software references to scanning do not add document hardware.

Computer and mobile connections

Included Gigabit Ethernet and rear Hi-Speed USB 2.0 device connection support a compatible computer driver; USB cable separate. Front flash-drive host is a different file-printing function, disabled by default until administrator enables Retrieve from USB. Infrastructure Wi-Fi and NFC/Wi-Fi Direct accessory are optional for M605n.

Supplies and declared yields

Exact M605n supports CF281A/81A and separately purchased CF281X/81X replacements, declared about 10,500 and 25,000 pages under ISO/IEC 19752 continuous-printing conditions. Original box specifies 81A, not an included 81X. No installed remainder, live supply price, stock or cost per page inferred.

Software and support

The actual original computer driver offers Job Storage, Personal Job and PIN protection. The documented OS X procedure uses a four-digit PIN; Retrieve from Device Memory selects folder/job, requests the PIN and releases the selected copies. Job storage is enabled by default. Available memory, job-count settings, duplicate names and replacement choices matter: space pressure may remove oldest jobs. No permanent retention, encrypted hard disk, power-off survival or automatic release-deletion policy is promised from another generation.

Electrical edition and setup

Exact US E6B69A#BGJ is discontinued and commercial Class A. Documented low-voltage edition is 100–127 V, 50/60 Hz; verify actual plate and compatible host driver. Separate high-voltage version is not convertible. Closed body 16.7 W × 17.8 D × 15.7 H inches, 49.7 lb with cartridges. Original n opened depth 29.7 inches differs from US maximum 33, so allow additional access and measure actual setup rather than treating closed depth as operating room.
