HP LaserJet Enterprise M605x: 1,100 sheets, duplex and direct wireless printing review

The larger included supply changes the workday

The HP LaserJet Enterprise M605x is the configuration to consider when a commercial workgroup wants 1,100 ordinary sheets, automatic duplex and a color touchscreen in its starting assembly. Its built-in NFC and Wi-Fi Direct add a documented peer-printing option. The deciding caution is that direct wireless printing does not mean the printer includes the accessory needed to join an office's infrastructure Wi-Fi network.

HP identifies the exact US model as E6B71A#BGJ and marks it discontinued. This earlier review covers its documented low-voltage commercial configuration, without promising availability, remaining service life or a current compatible driver. The screen is color, but printed output is monochrome and there is no scanner, copier or fax.

Three inputs are included, more are optional

The x includes a 100-sheet multipurpose input, the usual 500-sheet drawer and a second 500-sheet drawer. HP states the ordinary capacity at 20 lb/75 g/m². The supported-size table confirms Letter, Legal and A4 through the front and 500-sheet inputs, allowing 1,100 of a selected size when all three contain it.

That is useful for longer runs, or for keeping different approved stocks ready, although splitting sizes or paper types divides the supply. A maximum-capacity headline still depends on further accessories. The dedicated envelope feeder, large high-capacity unit and output finishers are not included in the reviewed configuration.

Extend Tray 1's support and keep the stack below the fill line. In each lower drawer, adjust width and length guides before loading and close it without overfilling. Accept the panel size/type prompt only when correct; use Modify otherwise and set the computer job to match. The original uses the same loading procedure for both 500-sheet drawers.

Duplex with the compatible computer driver

The actual model table includes the duplexer for M605x. The separate media table positively supports Letter, Legal and A4 through that mechanism. Use Print on both sides under Windows Finishing, or the original HP OS X driver's Layout and Two-Sided binding choice.

For oriented paper without an optional finisher, duplex letterhead goes face down with the bottom entering from Tray 1; in a lower drawer it goes face up with the bottom at the front. The exact model's lower-tray and duplex weight range is 60–120 g/m². A broader generic support table does not justify heavier stock through the turning path.

The original specifically warns that its OS X HP-driver duplex feature might not be available through AirPrint. The included mechanism therefore supports the documented computer route without automatically proving a phone application's duplex settings.

Distinguish three connection arrangements

Gigabit Ethernet and rear Hi-Speed USB 2.0 support a compatible computer, with the USB cable purchased separately. The front flash-drive socket instead reads supported file types and requires an administrator to enable Retrieve from USB, which is disabled by default.

The exact original configuration table explicitly includes integrated NFC and Wi-Fi Direct for the x. Its accessory table says that the corresponding direct-printing functionality is already integrated, while the local-printing instructions include compatible Apple AirPrint clients. This supports a separate peer-printing route, with the client connected to the printer's direct wireless signal and the relevant administrator settings enabled.

The Jetdirect 2900nw infrastructure-wireless server remains optional even for the x. A buyer who must join an office Wi-Fi network should verify that separate arrangement rather than equating a Wi-Fi Direct radio with membership of the existing network.

Use network mobile printing without borrowing settings

AirPrint and Mopria certification are also listed for the exact US model. A normal network arrangement keeps the printer on Ethernet and puts the compatible phone on the same reachable local network through its access point. This is separate from directly joining the printer's signal.

Neither recorded mobile route has an independently confirmed promise for ordinary size selection, the full 1,100-sheet supply, automatic duplex or PIN release. Those computer-driver features are not copied into an unspecified mobile job. Historical cloud-printing service names in the manual are also not promises of a currently operating service.

Hold a computer job and manage its name

Job storage is enabled by default in the original guide. Select Personal Job and PIN protection in a supported driver; its OS X procedure specifies four digits. On the touchscreen, choose Retrieve from Device Memory, the folder and job, enter the PIN and release the required copies.

Duplicate names can replace earlier work, and limited space may remove the oldest jobs. The optional encrypted hard disk is a separate component. Do not treat the included PIN workflow as a permanent archive or assume retention and release-deletion rules from another printer generation.

Allow space for the taller assembly

The exact recommendation is 5,000–16,000 monthly pages, distinct from 225,000 maximum duty. Original one-sided speed is up to 58 Letter pages per minute, separately 56 A4. CF281A and separately purchased CF281X replacements have declared yields under ISO/IEC 19752 conditions, not a measured cost-per-page result.

The closed x measures 16.7 by 21.1 by 20.5 inches and weighs 71.5 pounds with cartridges. Open access needs more room. Verify the actual 100–127-V, 50/60-Hz plate and commercial Class A setting. If a 600-sheet wired setup is sufficient, compare a smaller dn assembly instead of accepting extra height merely for a larger headline capacity.
