LaserJet Enterprise M606dn (E6B72A#BGJ; US configuration)Illustrated overview
A useful fit for

A prepared wired workgroup needing Letter, Legal or A4 output within the 5,000–20,000 monthly recommendation.

The main tradeoff

The standard supply remains 600 sheets. Larger inputs, wireless accessories and encrypted disk are optional, and mobile printing does not inherit driver duplex or PIN settings.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can an Ethernet computer automatically duplex Letter with 600 ordinary sheets and PIN release at a 20,000-page monthly workload?

Qualifies with earlier references enabled, compatible driver and documented ordinary-media conditions. Standard dn hardware includes duplex, and the original Personal Job routine supports PIN release.

Does the standard dn include the x model’s direct wireless and NFC printing?

Fails the selected Wi-Fi Direct route. The exact dn needs an optional accessory; original integrated direct/NFC hardware and the US feature footnotes apply to the different x.

Can an AirPrint job inherit the computer-driver Legal duplex and PIN setup?

Fails that combined requirement. Network AirPrint is documented, but the original HP-driver duplex instructions and Personal Job PIN routine do not establish those settings for the mobile job.

Match a high original rate to a wired office routine

The HP LaserJet Enterprise M606dn suits a prepared commercial workgroup needing fast declared monochrome output, automatic second sides and PIN-held computer jobs. It includes Gigabit Ethernet, computer USB, a duplexer and 600 ordinary sheets. The main tradeoff is that the high original engine rate does not include the larger paper supply, touchscreen or direct-wireless hardware of an x configuration.

The exact US record identifies E6B72A#BGJ and explicitly marks it discontinued. This earlier review describes the documented US low-voltage assembly, without a claim about current availability, current drivers or a particular used machine's reliability. Its Class A emissions statement calls for a commercial setting.

Keep speed, recommendation and maximum duty apart

HP's original rate is up to 65 one-sided Letter pages per minute, separately 63 A4. It is a manufacturer declaration, not a new timing result or an automatic-duplex speed. Document complexity, host and settings still matter when considering the actual job.

The recommended monthly range is 5,000–20,000 pages. The much larger 275,000-page maximum duty cycle has a different purpose and does not establish a sensible continuous monthly workload. A faster engine also does not mean trays refill or completed jobs distribute themselves.

The printer is print-only and monochrome. It has no flatbed, document feeder, copy function or fax. A color text-and-graphics display and generic software references to Scan to Folder or Email do not supply a physical scanner.

Make the 600-sheet supply usable

Tray 1 takes 100 ordinary sheets and Tray 2 takes 500 at HP's 20-lb/75-g/m² basis. Letter, Legal and A4 are supported in both inputs. A 600-sheet supply for one size requires both to contain it; keeping forms in one and plain stock in the other divides that total.

Extend the front support and stay below its fill line. For the drawer, release and adjust the side and length guides before loading, keep below the full indicator and close it. Use Modify if the control-panel size or type is wrong, then match the computer job to the actual tray contents.

The exact model allows 60–120 g/m² in the lower and duplex paths and a separate 60–200-g/m² range in front. A broader generic support table does not override those narrower model-specific limits. Further 500-sheet drawers, a large high-capacity input and the dedicated envelope feeder are optional.

Use automatic duplex through the documented driver

The actual suffix table includes the automatic mechanism for M606dn. A separate paper table confirms Letter, Legal and A4 through it. In the original compatible Windows driver, open Finishing and choose Print on both sides; in the original OS X HP driver, use Layout and the Two-Sided binding choice.

With no optional finisher, duplex letterhead loads face down and bottom edge first into Tray 1. The lower drawer takes it face up with the bottom edge at the tray front. Match the direction to the actual routine rather than using the single-sided orientation by habit.

The original OS X instructions warn that the HP-driver feature might not be available through AirPrint. Included duplex hardware therefore supports the confirmed computer arrangement without proving every mobile application's second-side choices.

Release a held job at the keypad

The original guide says job storage is enabled by default. A supported computer driver offers Personal Job with PIN protection; the documented OS X setup uses four digits. At the printer, select Retrieve from Device Memory, choose the folder and job, enter the code and release the required copies.

Available storage and names remain part of the routine. Replacement settings can overwrite a previous document with the same user/job name, and space pressure can remove the oldest work. The 500-GB encrypted hard disk is optional. This review does not turn the included PIN workflow into an indefinite archive or import another generation's power-off and release-deletion rules.

Choose the correct port and mobile arrangement

The rear Hi-Speed USB 2.0 device connection goes to a compatible computer, with the cable purchased separately. The front easy-access USB host instead reads specified file types from a flash drive. Retrieve from USB is disabled by default until an administrator enables it.

The exact US page lists AirPrint and Mopria certification. A supported local arrangement uses Ethernet for the printer and an access point to put the compatible mobile client on the same reachable network. Infrastructure Wi-Fi and the direct-wireless accessory are optional for the dn. Generic direct-printing and NFC benefits on the page are footnoted to M606x, so they are not included here.

The separate mobile route has no confirmed paper-size, full-capacity, automatic-duplex or PIN promise. Occasional envelopes use their own instructed front-tray routine: up to ten face up, short postage edge entering first, correct size/type and the recommended open, extended rear output.

Check the body and replacement supply

The closed dn measures 16.7 by 21.1 by 15.7 inches and weighs 57 pounds with cartridges. Allow additional room for opening, cables, ventilation and service. Verify the actual documented 100–127-V, 50/60-Hz plate rather than treating the separately specified high-voltage edition as convertible.

CF281A and separately purchased CF281X replacements have declared yields of about 10,500 and 25,000 pages under ISO/IEC 19752 conditions. Neither figure establishes installed remainder or current cost per page. If included input matters more than the higher declared rate, compare a genuine three-input configuration before budgeting for optional expansion.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Original M606dn declares up to 65 one-sided Letter ppm, separately 63 A4. Exact US recommendation is 5,000–20,000 monthly pages, distinct from 275,000 maximum duty; no measured or duplex-speed claim.

Paper handling

Included front 100 plus lower 500 equals 600 ordinary 20-lb/75-g/m² sheets. Actual Letter/Legal/A4 input and duplex columns support those sizes; full selected-size count assumes both inputs contain it. Adjust guides before loading, stay below fill marks and match panel size/type to paper and driver. Standard automatic duplex uses compatible Windows Finishing or original HP OS X Layout/Two-Sided; AirPrint behavior remains separately unconfirmed. Without finisher, duplex letterhead front face down/bottom entering, lower face up/bottom at tray front. Exact lower/duplex paths 60–120 g/m² control over generic support page 60–220; front 60–200 is separate. Front holds up to ten envelopes, face up/short postage edge entering, with correct size/type and recommended rear output open/extended. Extra trays and 75-envelope feeder optional.

Scanning arrangement

This exact model is a monochrome print-only printer without a scanner, feeder, copy or fax function. A color control display and generic software references to scanning do not add document hardware.

Computer and mobile connections

Included Gigabit Ethernet and rear Hi-Speed USB 2.0 computer device port with compatible driver; USB cable separate. Front flash-drive host uses specified file types and is disabled until administrator enables Retrieve from USB. Infrastructure Wi-Fi and NFC/Wi-Fi Direct accessory are optional for dn. Generic direct/NFC benefits are expressly footnoted to M606x, not this M606dn.

Supplies and declared yields

Exact M606dn supports CF281A/81A and separately purchased CF281X/81X replacements, declared about 10,500 and 25,000 pages under ISO/IEC 19752 continuous-printing conditions. Box lists 81A, not high-yield 81X. No remaining toner, current price, stock or cost per page inferred.

Software and support

The actual original computer driver offers Job Storage, Personal Job and PIN protection. The documented OS X procedure uses a four-digit PIN; Retrieve from Device Memory selects folder/job, requests the PIN and releases the selected copies. Job storage is enabled by default. Available memory, job-count settings, duplicate names and replacement choices matter: space pressure may remove oldest jobs. No permanent retention, encrypted hard disk, power-off survival or automatic release-deletion policy is promised from another generation.

Electrical edition and setup

Exact US E6B72A#BGJ is discontinued, commercial Class A, with documented 100–127-V, 50/60-Hz edition. Verify actual plate and compatible host driver; separate high-voltage unit is not convertible. Closed body 16.7 W × 21.1 D × 15.7 H inches, 57 lb with cartridges. Original opened dimensions 16.7 W × 33 D × 22.5 H require additional room, as do cables, ventilation and maintenance.
