The HP LaserJet Enterprise M609dn is a fit for a prepared commercial queue needing automatic two-sided monochrome computer output, temporary PIN release and an original recommendation reaching 30,000 monthly pages. The standard paper supply remains 650 ordinary sheets. Its fast engine does not include the third drawer or wireless hardware found in other configurations.
This review covers the discontinued US K0Q21A#BGJ identified by HP's exact page and original specification PDF. The documented low-voltage configuration uses 100–127 V at nominal 50–60 Hz. HP labels it commercial Class A; inspect an earlier unit's actual plate, parts and compatible driver rather than assuming every regional M609dn is electrically identical.
Match the queue to recommended use and actual inputs
HP declares up to 75 one-sided Letter pages per minute, separately 71 A4. These original figures are not measured results for a complex office document or a mobile app. Recommended use is 5,000–30,000 monthly pages. The separate 300,000 maximum duty figure should not be read as a sustained monthly recommendation.
The included 100-sheet multipurpose tray and 550-sheet lower drawer make 650 ordinary sheets. The original lower capacity uses 20-lb/75-g/m² stock. Letter, Legal and A4 are positively documented for the input and automatic-duplex arrangement. Full capacity for one selected size requires both inputs to contain it.
Use the blue guide latches, keep below the full indicator and let guides touch without bending the stack. After loading, accept the displayed size and type only when correct; otherwise use Modify. Matching panel and computer settings matters when one input holds forms and the other ordinary stock. The separately optional high-capacity feeder is not counted as standard.
Set the real duplex path and preprinted orientation
The compatible Windows HP driver offers Print on both sides under Finishing. The original OS X HP-driver routine provides a binding selection under Layout and Two-Sided. Its AirPrint caveat means that computer-driver instructions cannot by themselves prove the same mobile settings.
With no optional stapling mailbox, automatic-duplex preprinted sheets load into the front input face down with the bottom edge entering first. In the lower drawer they sit face up with the top edge at the back. Simplex directions differ, and Alternative Letterhead Mode or a mailbox accessory changes which instructions apply.
The exact specification gives 60–120 g/m² for the ordinary lower and automatic-duplex paths, with a separate front range reaching 199. A front-fed heavy sheet is not automatically approved for duplex. For envelopes, use the documented front route instead: choose their exact size, Envelope type and Manual feed, send the compatible Windows job, then load up to ten face up with the short postage end leading. Envelopes do not duplex.
Use Personal Job for release rather than document retention
The actual guide supports memory-stored Personal Job and PIN protection through a compatible computer driver. The OS X routine specifies four digits. At the 2.7-inch keypad panel, select Print, Print from Job Storage, the folder and the job, then enter the PIN and release the desired copies.
Personal Job deletes after printing and is lost on power interruption. Names may be numbered or overwritten, and storage pressure can remove the oldest jobs. Keep the original file elsewhere. A separately optional 500-GB hard disk, advanced authentication accessory or storage-encryption claim is not an included permanent archive.
Keep mobile access separate from the computer queue
Gigabit Ethernet and rear computer USB are included. The exact US technical fields also establish AirPrint and Mopria. A local mobile arrangement keeps the printer on Ethernet and uses a compatible client on the same reachable subnet through its access point.
That mobile route has no confirmed paper size, input count, automatic duplex or PIN setting in this review. It does not inherit the driver queue's Legal duplex simply because both jobs reach the same printer. Infrastructure and direct-print wireless accessories are optional for the dn.
The front flash-drive USB host is distinct from the rear computer connection and is disabled until an administrator enables Print From USB Drive. Neither port adds scanning, copying or fax. A generic accessory shopping list containing larger paper likewise does not establish Tabloid printing.
Check toner restrictions and the placement margin
The exact replacement list establishes CF237A, CF237X and CF237Y at approximately 11,000, 25,000 and 41,000 declared pages. The original box lists an approximately 11,000-page cartridge; higher-yield replacements are separate purchases. HP explicitly warns that dynamic security can prevent non-HP chips from working.
The separate administrator Cartridge Protection setting permanently pairs subsequently installed cartridges when enabled. Turning it off later does not release previously protected supplies. Check actual device settings and supply provenance without assuming a remainder or cost per page.
The closed body is 17 inches wide, 18.3 deep and 15 high. Original weights conflict even though both describe toner-included conditions, so weight remains unconfirmed. Fully opened depth reaches approximately 40.9 inches. Check the actual assembly, furniture and service access before choosing this dn for its documented wired duplex workload.
