Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Can an Ethernet computer print ordinary A4 duplex with 650 sheets and PIN at 30,000 monthly pages?
Qualifies with a compatible HP driver and both included inputs holding ordinary A4 stock. Personal Job is temporary and deletes after printing or power loss.
Explore this need in the finder →Does the standard dn include Wi-Fi Direct without a wireless accessory?
Fails the standard direct-wireless requirement. This dn has included Ethernet and administrator-enabled rear computer USB; direct-print hardware is optional.
Explore this need in the finder →Can a compatible Mopria phone print on the local network while the printer remains wired?
Qualifies when client and access point reach the same subnet as printer Ethernet. This separate mobile route does not establish driver paper-size, capacity, automatic duplex or PIN settings.

The HP LaserJet Enterprise M612dn fits a prepared commercial monochrome queue that needs automatic second sides, temporary computer-driver PIN release and a recommendation reaching 30,000 monthly pages. Its standard input remains 650 ordinary sheets. The engine rate should be considered alongside that actual reserve and the office's loading routine.
The exact US configuration is 7PS86A#BGJ. This review uses HP's present specification reference and original operating guide, without promising current stock, price or a seller's condition. HP documents a commercial Class A, 100–127-V edition at nominal 50–60 Hz. Verify the actual plate, assembly and compatible software.
Separate the engine figure from sustained use
HP declares up to 75 one-sided Letter pages per minute, separately 71 A4 in the exact original model row. These are manufacturer specifications, not measured results for a complex report, a phone app or a two-sided job. Recommended monthly use is 5,000–30,000 pages; the separate 300,000 maximum duty figure is not a suggested monthly workload.
The included 100-sheet multipurpose input and 550-sheet lower drawer total 650 ordinary sheets. HP rates the lower drawer with 20-lb/75-g/m² paper. Letter, Legal and A4 are positively documented for the inputs and automatic duplex. Full capacity for a selected size assumes both inputs contain it.
Using the front input for envelopes or preprinted forms reduces the ordinary-paper reserve. Larger feeders and the 75-envelope cassette are optional. A capacity shown for an expanded assembly should not be counted as hardware already included in this dn.
Prepare the tray and select automatic duplex
The guide notes that drawer guides may be locked. Where adjustable, use their blue latches, set width and length before loading, keep below the full indicator and avoid bending the stack. After closing, confirm the reported size and type or choose Modify. The computer job should request the real stock.
In the compatible Windows HP driver, select Print on both sides under Finishing. The original macOS HP-driver routine uses Layout and a Two-Sided binding choice, with a warning that the feature might not be available through AirPrint. That caveat prevents the separate mobile route from inheriting the driver setting.
Without an optional stapling mailbox, the actual lower table loads preprinted duplex sheets face down with the bottom at the back. For simplex it gives face up/top at the back. Front duplex stock goes face down/bottom entering; simplex uses face up/top entering. Alternative Letterhead Mode and a mailbox change which instructions apply.
The documented ordinary duplex range is 60–120 g/m², separate from the front input's 60–200 range. Envelopes do not duplex. For up to ten in Tray 1, select their exact size, Envelope type and Manual feed in the compatible Windows driver, send the job, then load face up with the short postage end entering first.
Enable rear USB before installing the direct queue
Gigabit Ethernet and rear USB 2.0 are included, but the original guide says the rear computer device port is disabled by default. An administrator opens Settings, General and Enable Device USB and selects Enabled. Install compatible software after enabling it and supply the separately purchased USB cable.
The front flash-drive host is also disabled by default, with a different Enable Print From USB Drive setting. It reads specified files through the panel and is not the rear computer connection. Neither port adds scanning, copying, a document feeder or fax; generic Multifunction Printer text in the box list does not establish those functions.
Use the included storage for a controlled release
The original model table includes 8 GB eMMC and 512 MB memory. Its compatible computer-driver Personal Job routine supports PIN protection; the macOS procedure uses four digits. At the touchscreen select Print, Print from Job Storage, Choose, the folder/document and Select, enter the private PIN, choose copies and Print.
Personal Job explicitly deletes after printing and is lost on power interruption. Names may gain a number or overwrite an earlier file, and storage pressure can remove older jobs. Keep the source file elsewhere. The optional 500-GB disk is a different component, and included eMMC does not justify promising permanent retention against the guide's stated rules.
Keep mobile access, supply policy and placement concrete
Exact US specifications list AirPrint and Mopria. A supported local mobile arrangement leaves the printer on Ethernet and puts the compatible client on the same reachable subnet through its access point. Its paper size, input count, automatic duplex and PIN settings remain unconfirmed here. Infrastructure and direct-print wireless hardware are optional for this dn.
Exact W1470A, W1470X and W1470Y replacements declare approximately 10,500, 25,200 and 42,000 pages under ISO/IEC 19752. The original box yield is approximately 10,500; higher yields are separate purchases. HP's dynamic-security statement permits new or reused HP chips but warns that firmware can block non-HP chips. Separate administrator Cartridge Protection permanently pairs subsequently installed supplies when enabled.
The closed body is 17 inches wide, 18.3 deep and 15 high, while original weights conflict. Fully opened depth reaches approximately 40.9 inches. Check the actual assembly and provide drawer, output, ventilation and service room before choosing this wired dn for its supported workload.

Paper, software and setup details
Print-rate conditions
Exact originals declare up to 75 one-sided Letter ppm, separately 71 A4. Recommendation is 5,000–30,000 monthly pages, distinct from maximum duty 300,000. No measured complex-job speed, duplex rate, mobile performance or comparative timing inferred.
Paper handling
Actual original input and automatic-duplex loading tables positively include ordinary Letter, Legal and A4. Each lower drawer holds 550 sheets of 20-lb/75-g/m² stock, with 100 in the multipurpose input. Full capacity for one size requires all included inputs to hold it. Guides may be locked; otherwise use the blue width/length latches, keep below the fill indicator and confirm or Modify the panel size/type to match the computer job. Without an optional stapling mailbox, this original’s lower preprinted duplex orientation is face down with bottom at the rear; simplex is face up/top at the rear. Front preprinted duplex is face down/bottom entering, simplex face up/top entering. Alternative Letterhead Mode and mailbox settings change the applicable instructions. Ten front envelopes use exact size, Envelope type and Manual feed selected before sending; then load face up/short postage end leading. Envelope duplex is unsupported. No optional 75-envelope feeder or high-capacity input included. Exact dn includes front 100 plus lower 550 for 650 ordinary sheets and automatic duplex. Windows HP driver uses Finishing and Print on both sides; original macOS HP driver uses Layout and Two-Sided binding, retaining its AirPrint caveat. Ordinary duplex range is 60–120 g/m², separate from front input 60–200; input weight alone does not approve special media for duplex.
Scanning arrangement
This is monochrome print-only hardware without scanner, feeder, copy function or fax. Generic Multifunction Printer box text and unrelated recommendation cards do not establish physical scanning hardware.
Computer and mobile connections
Gigabit Ethernet and rear USB 2.0 computer device connection are included. The rear port is disabled by default: an administrator must enable Settings, General, Enable Device USB before installing compatible print software; the USB cable is separately purchased. The distinct front flash-file USB host is also disabled by default until Enable Print From USB Drive is enabled. Confirm actual firmware, administrator access, cables and compatible host driver.
Supplies and declared yields
Exact M612dn replacements W1470A/147A, W1470X/147X and W1470Y/147Y have approximately 10,500, 25,200 and 42,000 declared pages under ISO/IEC 19752 continuous-printing conditions. Original box yield is approximately 10,500; high-yield replacements are separately purchased. HP states dynamic security allows new or reused HP chips while blocking non-HP chips, including cartridges that may previously have worked; no blanket refill guarantee inferred. Separate administrator Cartridge Policy and Cartridge Protection are off by default in the original guide. Enabled protection permanently pairs subsequently installed cartridges and disabling the setting does not release existing protected supplies. No live price, stock, remainder or cost per page inferred.
Software and support
The exact original configuration includes 8 GB embedded eMMC and 512 MB memory; its compatible computer-driver Personal Job supports PIN protection. The documented macOS routine uses four digits. At the panel choose Print, Print from Job Storage, Choose, folder/document and Select, enter the private PIN, choose copies and Print. Personal Job explicitly deletes after printing and is lost on power interruption. Duplicate names can be numbered or overwritten, and storage pressure can remove oldest jobs. The optional 500 GB disk is separate. Included eMMC does not change the guide’s explicit temporary-job deletion rules or establish a permanent archive.
Electrical edition and setup
Exact US 7PS86A#BGJ is commercial Class A with documented 100–127 V at nominal 50–60 Hz. Separate high-voltage editions are not dual voltage or convertible. This current manufacturer specification reference makes no stock, price or seller-condition claim; no explicit discontinued notice was observed. Closed dimensions are 17 inches wide, 18.3 deep and 15 high. The guide’s 380 mm corroborates height despite an incorrect inch label. Weight remains unresolved between exact US 47.5 lb and original guide 45.4 lb with toner. Fully opened dimensions reach approximately 40.9-inch depth and 17.8-inch height. Allow cable, ventilation and service space, and verify actual plate, administrator access and compatible host driver.
