LaserJet Enterprise Flow MFP M525c CF118AIllustrated overview
A useful fit for

A compatible office workflow that captures two-sided documents in color, sends files to configured network folders and prints mainly in black and white.

The main tradeoff

It is a substantial earlier machine; wireless networking is optional, embedded OCR has an occasional-use boundary and current compatibility plus the electrical edition need checking.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Can it capture both sides of Legal originals in one pass, send files over Ethernet and handle 5,000 monthly printed pages with included fax?

Yes, using the configured network-folder route and appropriate fax connection; the Flow c includes the 100-sheet single-pass feeder and supports that documented printing range.

Does standard wireless networking replace the Ethernet connection?

No. Infrastructure wireless is optional and is not counted as part of this base configuration.

Can a USB printing cable be relied on for desktop scan-file capture?

That route is not established by the reviewed Flow c guide; use the documented, properly configured network destination.

Choose the Flow version for the originals you handle

The HP LaserJet Enterprise Flow MFP M525c makes its strongest case when document capture matters as much as printing. It prints in black and white, but its scanner captures color and reads both sides of an original in one pass. A 100-sheet feeder, Legal-size glass and a pull-out keyboard give it a different role from the related M525dn and M525f.

This is an earlier office configuration, identified as CF118A. Its usefulness depends on a working network destination, suitable software and the condition of the particular machine. The Flow name describes a specific set of capture features; it does not turn the printer into a color model or establish current stock.

Understand what the single-pass feeder changes

The c reads both sides during one passage through the feeder. The dn and f use a smaller, reversing feeder, so their automatic duplex scanning is a different process. HP specifies up to 52 black or 31 color Letter images per minute for the c’s two-sided capture. Those image rates count individual sides and should not be compared directly with printed pages per minute.

Letter, Legal and A4 originals are supported, and the flatbed extends to 8.5 by 14 inches. Use the glass for material unsuitable for a feeder. EveryPage ultrasonic detection helps identify double feeds, but important batches still deserve a completeness check before originals are discarded.

The keyboard can make destination and file-name entry more practical. Built-in optical character recognition creates searchable or editable output without assuming the optional software needed by the dn and f. HP nevertheless describes embedded OCR as intended for occasional use; offices planning sustained conversion work should evaluate their full software workflow.

Prepare the destination rather than assuming every cable scans

The original guide expressly includes the Flow c in its shared digital-sending functions. A configured network folder provides the documented route for delivering files to a computer or server. Prepare the destination, access permissions and network settings before relying on a panel shortcut for daily capture.

Gigabit Ethernet and computer USB are standard connections. Wireless infrastructure networking is optional. The USB printing connection and the separate flash-drive port do different jobs; neither establishes desktop USB scanning in the material reviewed here. AirPrint is identified for printing, with its own supported network and firmware requirements, rather than as a mobile scanning promise.

Six hundred supplied sheets and automatic duplex output

The M525c includes a 100-sheet multipurpose tray and a 500-sheet main cassette. The resulting 600-sheet ordinary-paper capacity is the relevant starting point. Two optional 500-sheet feeders explain the larger expansion figure; check their physical presence if an offer claims the expanded configuration.

The M525 specifications cover Letter, Legal and A4 in both inputs and in the automatic print-duplex path. Do not substitute the neighboring M575’s cassette restrictions. Envelopes use the multipurpose tray with their own loading and media rules, rather than inheriting ordinary-paper duplex capability.

HP recommends 2,000–6,000 printed pages per month and lists output up to 42 Letter pages per minute. The 75,000-page maximum duty figure is not the recurring-volume recommendation. Your expected print load and your scanning workload should be considered separately.

Included fax, private jobs and the cost of an earlier machine

The Flow c includes analog fax and a convenience stapler. Fax still requires appropriate phone service and configuration. These additions distinguish the package from the dn, but should not be confused with optional network-fax software or with an unlimited range of phone-service compatibility.

HP explicitly describes requiring a PIN to retrieve print jobs. Configure that function through compatible software and confirm the actual release process. Encrypted storage and optional user authentication are separate protections, rather than substitutes for choosing private-job settings. The guide’s conflicting disk-capacity wording is not needed to decide whether PIN retrieval is documented.

The closed machine measures approximately 20.3 by 21.6 by 22.7 inches and weighs 67.3 pounds with its cartridge. Allow room to open the scanner and reach the trays. Check the electrical plate, service condition and present software compatibility. HP 55A and 55X cartridge references identify the original monochrome supplies, while published yields say nothing about toner remaining in a particular offer.

Paper, software and setup details

Print-rate conditions

Up to 42 Letter or 40 A4 printed pages per minute. Flow c simplex Letter capture is up to 42 black or 32 color pages per minute; two-sided capture is up to 52 black or 31 color images per minute. Recommended printing is 2,000–6,000 pages monthly; maximum duty is 75,000. These are separate tasks and measures.

Paper handling

Supplied ordinary input is 100-sheet multipurpose plus 500-sheet main tray, totaling 600; two extra 500-sheet trays are optional. The M525-side table documents Letter, Legal and A4 in both inputs and automatic print duplex; the adjacent M575 cassette has different restrictions. Envelopes use the multipurpose tray and do not inherit ordinary-paper duplex support.

Scanning arrangement

Exact CF118A Flow c has a 100-sheet single-pass duplex feeder, EveryPage ultrasonic double-feed detection, a pull-out keyboard, built-in OCR and an 8.5 × 14-inch flatbed. Letter, Legal and A4 originals are supported. The common section explicitly includes c in shared-folder digital sending, with destination and access configuration; direct computer USB capture remains unconfirmed. Embedded OCR is intended for occasional use rather than a high-volume conversion guarantee.

Computer and mobile connections

Computer USB and Gigabit Ethernet are included; wireless infrastructure networking is optional. AirPrint is an identified print route, subject to supported network/firmware conditions and available mobile controls. Neither its USB host port nor printing cable proves desktop USB scanning.

Supplies and declared yields

M525 supplies are HP 55A / CE255A and 55X / CE255X with declared approximate yields of 6,000 and 13,500 pages. The monochrome model does not use the neighboring M575 color cartridges. Fax and the convenience stapler are standard on c; appropriate phone service and fax setup are still needed.

Software and support

The exact Flow c column includes a secure hard disk. The solution guide explicitly describes PIN retrieval of print jobs for this series, separately from encrypted storage and optional user authentication. Use compatible print software and configure job retrieval; exact driver menus are not borrowed from the separate dn/f-only operating guide. Disk capacity is left unspecified because the original text and model footnote differ.

Electrical edition and setup

This is the earlier CF118A North American Letter configuration, not a stock or official-discontinuation claim. The original lists separate low- and high-voltage editions; the actual unit plate is required, so US mains remains unconfirmed. Body is 20.3 × 21.6 × 22.7 inches and 67.3 lb with cartridge; allow service and scanner access.
